Prank Call
Got this call the other day 5/15/2014, I wasn't home but my 75yr old father was. The caller ID said "Unavailable 1". This guy could barely speak English, Said his name was John from Microsoft, and that our computer was infected with a virus and he was going to help us fix it. Dad said if this guy's name was John, then my dad is the POPE!!  So obviously a Scam.
My dad got this number from him 253-785-0862. And told him to call back so I could help him since Dad didn't know anything about the computer. Since I work in Silicon Valley, and computer security is my area, My firewall and virus software are top of the line.
I have set up a nice little Honeypot for this guy if he dares to call back.

Prank Call
I received the same call as reported above from Peter Smith. I also questioned how he knew files were being downloaded to my computer. He told that when I registered my computer it tracks the problems. I told him that I have virus protection, a malware program, and crap cleaner. He said that it would not detect the downloading files as it is not a virus but could cause my computer to crash. He then instructed me to turn on the computer and then press the Windows and R keys. I "accidently" hung up on him. He called back a few minutes later apologizing for the disconnect. I told him I didn't have time now to deal with this and asked for a phone number. Guess what...253-785-0862! Confirmed with my very knowledgeable computer friend that this is a scam.

I got a call from a guy named Alex (he had an accent that made me think his real name was something other than what he told me) this morning at 7.50 am  telling me that my computer had been infected by a virus.  When I asked him why was he calling me so early, he said that he special permission to call so early, and then I asked him how did he know my computer was infected he said that every time it is turned on that "virus packets" get on to my computer.  I kept pressing him for the name of his company and their phone number and he didn't want to give it to me.  I finally told him that if he was from a legitimate company he would have no problem giving his number.  He finally gave me 253-785-0862 and gave me lots of attitude.  I told him I would call him back and he told me he would be waiting for my call.

My mom got a call today from a guy who said my computer had been hacked and sensitive information was being accessed and that he could help. My mom is not tech savvy, but knows enough not to follow these type of calls. She asked if she could call the guy back and he gave him this phone number 253 785 0862 and told his name was Steve Smith. I told her this was probably scam and then found this post. Thanks everyone for posting these scam attempts.

Received a call this after noon and they gave us the same story as mentioned above. When I told the guy our IT department would take care of the issue, he said they probably would not be aware of the issue our computer has. I thought it was a scam and just hung up on the guy.

Rec'd call this morning at 7:30 am from an Asian man, speaking broken English,  who said his name was Harry from Window's Security and that our computer had down loaded a harmful computer virus and that he would assist us in removing the virus. He stated that our computer sent a message to Microsoft alerting them that our computer was infected by a virus.  We did not have time to turn our computer on and thought the call was a scam, which we believe that it was. He provided the call back number of 253-785-0862.

I got a call today from this number stating they were contracted from Microsoft to help with solving a problem with my computer.  The lady said for me to get on my computer and she will take care of the problem.   She said that someone was loading and taking files and info from my computer by way of Windows.  I hung up on her and called Microsoft and reported it to them.  Microsoft said that it was a scam and that Mircrosoft does not do any cold calling to their customers.  Microsoft said the only time they will call a customer is if that customer called the service/support department and have requested support.  Also Microsoft said that these people are trying to remote access peoples computers to gain personal information.   Please don't fall for this scam!

Prank Call
I got a call yesterday March 13, 2013 @ 6:20 pm from a man saying he was with Windows and he had called my husband who told him to call me.  He said something to the effect that my Window's is outdated and someone has been downloading files that can are harming my computer and it could crash any moment, but he can help me.  (I did have some weird stuff going on in my emails.  2 days ago after I woke up and clicked on my computer...which I leave on all the time...there was a whole slew of undeliverable email addresses lined up in my email...all kinds of contact names).  I had a feeling this guy had something to do with it so I started playing dumb to see if I could get some information out of him.  He was wanting me to turn my computer on (which it was already on, but I made like I was cutting it on stalling for time).  Then he wanted me to click the Control buttton and the Window's button at the same time.  First he was asking me did I have a labtop or a desktop.  I acted like I didn't know.  Then I acted like I didn't know what he was talking about when he was saying to hold the button with the flag.  I asked his name,...Sam Paul. I asked his phone number...He said 0 then he stopped himself and said 253-785-0862.  He said they were closing soon. I asked what time was it.  He paused and asked what time was it were I was. I didnt answer.  I asked is he East Coast.  (I heard him mumble...what time is it).  Then he said yes..he's on the East Coast and it was 9:30.  I asked him what State.  He said Texas.  I asked him what city in TX.  He said Dallas.  I hung up....Dallas is not East Coast.
