I received the same message from Mary Kay saying I have a potential customer. I replied via text before I looked the number up.. I haven't heard anything. I'm frustrated because I assumed that since it came from Mk site. Grrrr

I became suspicious when they gave two different addresses stating to wire their balance to a different state than where the products were going.

Sellers of Avon and Pampered Chef have also been targeted by these scammers, who are most likely in Nigeria and neighboring countries.  They usually claim to be deaf to keep you from calling them and hearing their real voices.

I received the same request with the same phone number listed via my Mary Kay personal website:

Hello, My name is Albert Hillary, i was going through Marykay Website and found some nice products that i will love to order from you for my lovely daughter's birthday.Kindly get back to me through my email alberthillary@yahoo.com so that i can provide you with the list of the products i will like to order from you .Thanks a lot Mrs Albert

I became suspect when the language sounded much like the spam lottery emails.  The address she sent me for her "daughter" is owned by someone else (1210 E. 12th St. Apt. 1, Atlantic, IA) and the "daughter's" name is that of a cookbook author (Mary Contini).  The email continued:

I will like to send your payment upfront even before you commence with the order, But let me know how much the total order would cost me. I'd make payment to you via Money Order or Bank Certified check before you order the products for me because I don't have much knowledge about computers and thereby do not have a credit card to do the orders myself online, But I was told I could order via a Rep....Kindly email me back with the total amount, Your full name, phone number and physical contact Address where payment should be mailed to. Below is my daughter's address where the products should be shipped to. About the payment, as soon as I have the total amount and your mailing address along with your contact mobile number I will have my financier mail out your payment and I will get back to you with more details Okay.

Thanks for posting this information so it was easily found when I searched the phone number!!

They can't hack your computer through an email you don't open.  But they can and will spam you.  They may even send malware in that spam.

Delete suspect mails without opening them.  That will keep you safe.

100 % correct. This is a scam going around several MLM's, including Mary Kay & Scentsy. The way it works is this:

The "client" orders a large amount of product and asks to pay for it with a check that is much higher than the amount due for the product. When the check is cashed by the consultant, the check is fake, leaving the consultant liable.
