This number *apparently* belongs to some people who keep trying to sell me catheters. They've been calling nonstop in the past three days and asking me the same questions. It's getting really old really fast.

Got a "unknown" call and answered, they claimed to be from the Alabama State Troopers Association or something. Sounded important so I let the man say what he had to. A flag was raised when he asked for me by "Mr. *****" but then afterward had to verify my first name. He was asking for a donation of 15, 20, or 25 (for families of fallen officers) and all I had to do over the phone was to verify my address and they would send a package in the mail to make the donation and send it back. I felt sort of OK with that since I didn't have to give out any other personal info (credit card, etc). But another flag was raised when he wanted to make absolute positive that I would be able to make the donation after receiving the package, and when he transferred me to a woman to verify my address, I could barely understand her. Sounded like she was on speaker phone and in the background it sounded like one of those hectic fundraisers that you see on TV, with papers being shuffled, phones ringing, other people talking, etc. I couldn't say no because I have nothing but respect for law officers, but still couldn't help but be suspicious about the situation.

I worked for the ASTA back in the early 90's doing the same fund raising. They're legitimate, and back then we just cold-called, right out of the phone book, literally. Don't know how they do it now. But they are legit as far as I know and they were hired by the State Troopers to make the calls. Just FYI.
Thing is, it was not a real professional set-up. Not a real call-center. Would hire anybody who could talk on a phone and dial a number. But real.
Girl who called here was very nice and polite and apologetic when I told her we couldn't help and take our number off the list.

They are in Fruithurst, Alabama. That's the easy research. It's a small, hick town near the Georgia border north of I-20.

I have received several calls from this number when I was not home. Tonight they called and I answered it. I heard people talking in the background, but no one answered and they hung up.

I got a phone that lets me block numbers locally (in house), after the phone company told me THEY couldn't help me. I'm teaching my phone to be my shield, my protector from the intruders. All my numbers are on the Do Not Call list, but the phone company told me these creeps have a way of calling me through a proxy number that's not even a real number. That's fine. I'll take the time to block ALL the Sons of B's.

I receive calls from this number every day. I finally got irritated enough that I called back. I got a message saying they were the American Association of State Troopers and their annual fund raising was under way. They left another number to call for details. Call that number and follow the instructions and they say they will not call again...good luck

I have answered this call and i ask who is calling the man says Steve, he knows my name,he then begins to talk about fallen oficers and how i can help,so i reply by saying ok Steve send a marked car to my home and a officer and i will make a donation to the local police dept . He does not know what to say to me .So he keeps up telling me how much gas is and if he sent a officer to every home then their would be no sence to have this campain i say to him oh well that is my terms. CLICK!So please don't be fooled

I answered this call and spoke with a gentleman that stated he was from the State Trouper Assoc. with the fallen officer program. He was soliciting money to support their annual cause. I cannot validate the annual cause.

That web site is NOT for the Alabama State Troopers Association. It is a business trying to sell web sites. The actual web site is: http://www.alabamatroopers.net/ . These jokers on the phone are not representative of the state troopers.

It is disrespectful when a person calls and ask for someone by name. They act like they are long lost friends. I was trying to explain to them that the person they were calling was very ill and didn't give them a donation. They hung up on me which is rude. I listened to them but they wouldn't listen to me.

I got a call from this 256-781-4439 and they asked for Mary which is my mother-in-law. I asked what it was about and she said a thank you for a donation. She has lived with me for two years and has alzheimers so I know she didn't give them a donation. When I was asking them not to call again they hung up before I could finish.

The Alabama State Troopers Association may be genuine, but odd are overwhelming that their money-raising campaign is not. The vast majority of these calls are made by paid telemarketers that keep 60-95% of your donation to cover expenses.
Read the other posts. This phone number has been used to promote a truck driving school and lord knows what else. It almost certainly belongs to a telemarketing firm. If you want to help the Alabama State Troupers call their non-emergency phone number and ask them where to send a check.

You have to understand that there is no reason to extend "compassion" to telescammers like yourself.
Anyone from actual Law Enforcement will tell you that this is not the way they operate.

Alabama State Troopers Association is geniune.

So sad that you can not take a few moments to be a compassionate human being.

I got a call from "LOCAL CALL BACK:256-781-4896". He just said my name, but there was a lot of background noise. I said, "Yes?" He said my name again, questioning. I said, "Yes!" He hung up.

Alabama State Troopers. Said that they were having thier big benefit that they have every year, and were getting money together for the finger printing and ID's for kids. He knew my business name & address. He was pretty friendly though, and not too aggressive when I declined to give him any money. The only reason I answered it was because it showed the local 256 area code on caller ID. Strange thing though, is when I went back to check my caller ID, the 256 area code was missing. It only showed the 781-4896. I don't give donations over the phone. I will give locally on occassions, but only if someone from thier organization comes to my business personally.

Rec'd a call 3 weeks ago, Alabama Troopers Association to help keep drugs out of the schools, I said I could not be of help. Rec'd another call last week, I explained that they called before and I was unable to help...the man got very defensive and said we have never called your number before and proceeded to argue with me. I told him to remove my number and hung up. This evening 8:30 at night to less, they call and hang up when I answer.
