Not a 258, but just today I received 32 calls from 30 different "area codes," starting at 7:11 a.m., and ending at 5:54 p.m.  Out of the first 16, only one was a valid (Oregon) area code.  Same story as above.

We got a call from 2585111187 from someone that spoke very broken english saying something bout our windows system on our computer..... any help?

Same here. 7 calls from random numbers today alone. I'm starting to think that the hang ups are someone/thing just calling to determin valid numbers. So don't pick up a call from an unknown number! It may lead to other annoyances or hacking down the road. If its important then thy will leave a message!

I got call from this number, I learned not to answer it. Now people use the phone like the email. I have a lot of junk mail and now have a lot of junk phone. Before we have terrorist in person; now we have terrorist phone call. Anyone have any idea about what weapon should we use to attack back? Let me know I will buy it!

Same here on my cell...random numbers,...invalid area codes...I ignore numbers I don't recognize.

I've had this same issue for 2 weeks. Started getting random phone numbers calling 2-3 times a day, always a different phone number, none with valid area codes. Never a message. I never answer calls from numbers I don't recognize. It's mostly just an annoyance that I keep receiving these idiotic, useless calls. Sounds like there is NO reason for them, since those that HAVE taken the risk of answer have either heard nothing on the other end or been hung up on. I refuse to answer to pay for any charges that might stem from this number turning up to be from out of the country, since they aren't valid US numbers.

Actually, the random area code phone numbers started on February 1, 2012 from 782-786-6000 and have been going on since.

Just received a call from this phone. I've had the same experience as most of you. I've been getting numerous calls from random phone numbers with various area codes and no voice mail. I'll search for the phone number on Google and there's nothing out there on these numbers.

I got this call just a few minutes ago and I decided to answer. There was no sound on the other end and the person hung up after a couple of seconds. I see that others are having the same issue as I am.

I started getting these random phone calls for a month. It's frustrating because I can be expecting a call but I have to let it go to voice mail (unless it's a local number) before I can return their call.

I have received 19 of these invalid numbers on my cell in the past week and a half.  This is the first one that actually showed up when i googled.  I called my cell phone provider to see what they suggested and they gave me 3 options. #1 was to file a police report.  #2 was to sign up for their usage control feature for $4.99/month...i list which numbers i allow to contact me.  #3 was to change my number.  I seriously considered filing a police report but still deciding whether it is worth getting the police involved.  Glad i'm not the only one dealing with this.

I've been getting calls on my cell phone from numbers with invalid area codes for about a week. They're spoofing numbers on the caller ID and have a virtually unlimited combination of numbers to work with ... much more than the 30 I can block on my phone. Don't answer ... definitely a scam! Can anything be done to get rid of these scammers?

Same problem here.  Random phone calls from nonexistent area codes began about 2 weeks ago and it's happening 2-3 times/day.  This 258 number showed up several times recently.  One solution - get a "silent ringtone" and create a "blocked calls" contact.  Add all these irritating nonexistent numbers to that list.  At least your phone won't keep ringing!  The phone company tells me the only other solution is to change my number.  Argh.

Constant hang up when answered or no voice mail left

Calls, does not leave message.  Shows up as 258-878-2030, but 258 is an invalid area code.  I receive 3-4 calls per day from these invalid area codes, but rarely the same one.  This one is starting to repeat.

I have been random calls also... many different numbers.... I looked up and they are listed as harshad numbers.... whatever that is ... My guess is its a new scam from other countries like Nigeria, Africa, Pakistan and such.......

I do not answer unknown numbers especially when they have no real name with the number ...

Just got a call from this number on my cell.  I do not answoer calls I don't recognize.  Recently there have been 5 different ones and they keep calling.  I guess they hope I will pick-up.

me too, I don't answer, so I can't say who it is.  I think I should start answering and telling them that I'll come to their house and burn it down if they call me one more time.  I'll be switching my phone number soon, and not giving it out to anyone.

I've been getting calls from a bunch of random numbers lately.  Most of them, if I don't recognize them, I'll do a google search, and most of the time, the first result will be for an 800notes.com thread.  Then, all of the sudden, I was getting a bunch of numbers that didn't show up on this site.  Just appeared to be regular numbers.  But they didn't leave a message.  This was the first number I got a call from in days that showed up on this site as a spam number.

When I got a call from a five-digit number recently (not the usual 10 digits), I answered it, and the person on the other end (with an Indian accent) of the line said that they had gotten a record from Microsoft's servers about malware on my computer.  I told them I had no idea what they were talking about, and that my personal computer was a Mac, and they apologized and we ended the call.  But it sounded awfully suspiciously like one of those warnings you get from scareware on your computer trying to trick you into installing malware, except these were live people saying it over the phone.

Been getting a lot of spam on cell, even though I registered it with donotcall.gov!
