Someone has hacked into collection agency servers and/or files. Those companies are not known for having good security...

If you get a representative that doesn't want to help you, get the employee name and/or employee ID, then ask for a supervisor. I have spoken to Sprint Fraud 3 times in the last 2 days, and they have been MORE THAN HAPPY to help. Security is researching this issue as we speak, and the more calls they get, the better. Also might want to let your friends know who have cells with text capabilities NOT to reply to the message, or call the number. Call Visa and report it with them (number on the back of your card, call your bank and let them know, and I would put restrictions on your bank accounts so that no one can query your account to verify funds. Ask your bank how to do this.

same thing, got the call from two different numbers. 310-882-5255 & 270-495-0189. Sprint needs to do something about this!!!
Kelly 2009-12-09 06:37:06 Unknown
I also received a text yesterday. Tonight I received the same text but with a different phone number the number was (313) 843-9546. The name came up as a Maria Sanchez 2007 Hubbard St, Detroit MI 48209. I have Boost Mobile.

I received this message last night. The same message came today with the same caller ID but a different number - 313-843-9546.
michanne dempsey 2009-12-08 18:40:47 Unknown
i too received this text. call sprint and report it, they have a team working on it right now & they need to know who received this.

Sprint FRAUD dept doesn't want to help in this matter. I was told to call plain ol' Customer Service, which I did. They also seemed not too concerned. They confirmed that all short numbers were blocked from coming in to my phones, then they stated "if the message appears again then call Sprint again and they'll take a different measure to make sure the short numbers are blocked", and then Sprint also said "call the 207-495-0189 # to tell them to stop sending me texts." Sure. thanks sprint.

As stated before....number to Sprint Fraud Dept. 1-888-788-0788. Hours are M-F 8 am to 6 pm CST. Call them to report these fradulent texts. Do NOT give any information to these people.
customer issue...yeah right! 2009-12-08 15:35:15 Unknown
I also received a text message (carrier is Sprint) reporting "customer issue, visa service frozen. please call 270 495 0189". What dillhole would be compelled to call? My understanding is that credit card companies DO NOT send text messages to communicate account issues. Can I get a S-C-A-M?

same here phoned sprint & my bank figured it was a SCAM. Wonder if there is any connection to a text I received a week or so ago stating I'd subcribed to some automated "text" service that would charge me if I didn't text stop now my bill is $20 more than normal! I automatically texted back STOP but now I think my reply was a bogus/scam ploy to get me to text for an auto charge to my Sprint account! (Like some charities use this method to make a contribution.

My cellular service provider is Sprint/Nextel and I received a text message twice today that stated " 9099 customer issue, visa service frozen. please call at 270 495 0189 " I called the number from my LAN line and a recorded message told me to enter my 16 digit visa number. I entered a bogus number and then it prompted me to to enter the expiration date and then my pin number. After entering all bogus numbers it told me that all my information had been verified and the call ended. I then Googled it and it is in fact a scam and from what I read seems to be mostly Sprint/Nextel customers.

Just got the text and googled the number and it brought me to here. I was alarmed at first and debated about calling, then realized no legit bank would text this. I have Working Assets (Credo) for my carrier but they use Sprint's lines.
Melanie 2009-12-08 06:32:05 Unknown
I just got the same text. It was from 9099. I'm with sprint, just by the way. I got it at 10:15 pm, west coast time.
Lis 2009-12-08 06:12:03 Unknown
Daughter - who has no visa card - received this same message. I received it earlier. Our carrier is Sprint also if that matters.
Debbie 2009-12-08 05:28:22 Unknown
Got the same message - didn't fall for it - paniced at first.
mm 2009-12-08 04:49:35 Unknown
Me again, now the scam texts are coming every few minutes, and another just came to my wife's phone while I was on my phone complaining to sprint customer service. Can any of you getting the 9099 text to call about visa at 270-495-0189.... is this a Sprint problem?
mm 2009-12-08 04:36:56 Unknown
r u with sprint? i got the same thing twice tonight & had all text blocked back in july
jim bob 2009-12-08 04:28:33 Unknown
I also got the text "customer issue, visa service frozen. please call at 270 495 0189"
This is very odd considering I had sprint block all messages from non phone numbers.
crrousseau 2009-12-08 04:21:25 Unknown
Just got the same text. Obviously it's a scam, since I don't have a Visa card. I replied to the text and said SCAMMER - DO NOT TEXT THIS NUMBER AGAIN YOU HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO THE AUTHORITIES.
Rock 2009-12-08 03:16:04 Unknown
Got the same text. It's a scam. All legit finance companies will call you from a toll free # and they would never send you a text becuase of the lack of privacy and secuirity. No doubt some unsuspecting souls will enter their card numbers.
