"David" called us today from 790-0200 and claimed he was from Microsoft. Since we had already figured out the scam from previous calls last week to the 790-0210, my husband decided to play along for a while. "David" had a strong Indian accent and though he had managed to trick us into going into a specified website. My husband can speak some phrases in hindi and punjabi language and when he used that on "David", the phone line suddenly went dead...

Received two calls from this number.  A man with an Indian accent claimed that all Windows users all over the world are now being called up to help prevent their computers from crashing, and that it was very urgent.  I live in Sweden, and wonder why Microsoft would choose to call their Swedish customers from Wisconsin, in English ... Of course it's a scam!

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

A caller claimed to be from Microsoft and asked for my name.  He claimed that they were going to fix the bugs in my system that were showing up.  He said he can do this easily by gaining remote access to my computer.  I didn't let them do it, but it made me feel very uneasy about letting them into my computer and gain access to whatever they wanted.  My thought is that Microsoft doesn't call me, I call them if I have trouble.  He was very persistant about getting into my computer.
