Telemarketer
This scam company say they are simply providing an update service for Microsoft and need remote access.  When they are lucky enough to find an idiot that is stupid enough to give them access to their computer, these guys install a major virus/malware.  They claim that the type of Virus that is on your computer isn't covered under the service agreement and to remove it, you will have to pay them $39.99 (and then you will be billed monthly for their "service" $19.99 for EVER!! or until you cancel (WHICH WILL NEVER HAPPEN BECAUSE THEY WILL NEVER CANCEL THE CHARGE TO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT. You will have to either get a new credit card or bank account.  They are in Bangledesh so good luck prosecuting these scumbags.
THEY INSTALL A VIRUS ONTO YOUR COMPUTER AND THEN DEMAND THAT YOU PAY THEM TO REMOVE IT AND KEEP PAYING THEM TO KEEP IT OFF!!

I received a call from 000-000-0000.  There was a man with a heavy accent telling me my computer had 50 viruses.  I asked him for his number and he gave me281-317-1272.  I told him I wasn't on the Internet.  He told me he could sign me up right away through Telus and it wouldn't cost anything.  I told him I wasn't interested.  He was amazed and asked why not.  I told him I didn't want it because he just told me there were many viruses out there and I didn't want them.  He hung up in disgust.

Prank Call
Got a message from "John Abraham", supposedly from Microsoft, telling me I had downloaded malicious/junk files.  And when did these files appear, I asked.  "27/8/2010".  Interesting, since I just bought my laptop a few months ago.  Why can't I just take my laptop to the store where I bought it and get the Geek guys to look at it, I asked.  "Well, the store where you bought it just made the laptop; you know there is a difference between hardware and software." No, really??  And BestBuy made my HP laptop?  Good to know.

I received a call from a number (000-000-0000) on my caller Id and there was an asian lady that i could hardly make out telling me there was a virus on my computer because of a download.  I believe she called it a "malasian" file and it was going to destroy my hardrive.  I demanded to know what she was talking about as we hadn't been downloading anything and she put me on with a man who had a thick east indian accent.  He then continued to tell me to go to my computer and he would help me fix it.  Claiming the whole time to be with Microsoft.  Long story short, he got frustrated and gave me the wrong postal code and name when I demanded to know what he was talking about, I guess in an attempt to identify me.  He then said, oh nevermind and said i guess i have the wrong number.  What a joke!!  Scam scam scam.  Be careful what you share, even requesting a call back number can no longer be trusted.  I traced the call and will be calling the police in the morning.  It is quite late (9pm) for Microsoft to be calling me and since when did they start monitoring your computer and calling you late at night for free to fix the problem lol.

I just received a similar call from an Indian telemarketer, who provided the exact same phone number. He claimed to be of the same company in partnership with Microsoft. He said i had a virus on my computer and wanted to remote in and add software to fix it. I asked him more info and he got frustrated with me and said to look up the company and call back when i wanted to fix my computer. I hung up the phone at this point and found this website/blog. Obviously someone trying to hack into a computer.

Got a call from a guy with a thick Indian accent. Clearly, calling from a call bank, as there were lots of voices behind him. Said he was calling from Miami, but the call sounded like an international call. He wanted me to confirm my address, but I would not until he gave me his phone number. I googled it and found a reference to it on this site, that it was a company called Comentra, who had offered car loans. I mentioned Comentra to the caller and he said he'd have to go talk to his superviser to see if he could discuss Comentra with me. I said no, and hung up. Seconds later the phone rang and it was the same bad international connection. As soon as I answered, the person on the other end hung up.
