They just called me saying they have a commercial account with my name, social and birthday to please call back that is very ugent. after reading comments i put together they are calling me about a small debt i have with AVON. I thought somebody was trying to take my identity. thank you all for sharing

They keep calling saying I owe Avon ,they call all the time from different numbers with different area codes I downloaded Metro Block it and every time they call I send it to the FCC

This number calls me and they want my daughter. I do not give anyone her number as I do not know who they are. Not safe to pass on information to just anyone anymore.

She has not lived here since 1999. Wish they would stop calling. Does not help telling them she does not live here.

They call me repeatedly and are extremely rude. I offered to make a payment the next month and she raised her voice and was screaming at me. I simply said ma'am u don't have to yell. She said well you told us the last 3 months you would do that. And I said yes ma'am I did, and I fully intended to pay but I'm 23 and I have had 3 major open back surgeries within those months and hotels and gas aren't free. She cut me off and said well ma'am that's just too bad you still incurred the debt and you have to pay it. I told her I am offering you a payment for next month what's the least amount I can pay and she said $170 something and I said a man call me just 3 days ago and he said $60 something. She said no its $170 something. I said I can't pay that much I can offer you a payment of $20- $30 each month and she screamed no it has to be the $170 something. I said ok so you're refusing my payment? And she said unless its the $170 yes. And I said well its illegal to refuse any amount of payment and when you do that you void this debt. Can I speak to a manager? And she hung up. So I don't expect to receive any calls from them anymore cause that was on 6-6-13.

If they would give you any pertinent information such as a supposed account # this would be easier

They are actual debt collectors, as the debt they are calling me over was an account that I had owed.  They are in violation of Faid Debt collection practices, and the information the above poster is posting IS relevant and helpful.

They are lying.  They have been calling me for MONTHS telling me they are going to file suit for the debt I supposedly owe.  Next time tell them that unless they actually intend to take you to court, that they are in violation of the fair debt collection practices and that you are reporting them to the FTC.

This place keeps calling me asking for my mother! I've told them I have no idea where she is and to STOP calling me. They still call. I get calls from this number 281-558-7176 several times a week and sometimes several times a day, when I answer the phone they usually hang up.  The times they don't hang up they ask for someone that doesn't even live here and as soon as I ask them any questions or say anything about a lawyer they immediately hang up. I think this is harassment, I have a heart condition and I sometimes take a nap at random times during the day and it seems to be that time they always call.   Any lawyers out there want to take them on pro bono, or for a share of the settlement ?

Help! Get these creeps out of my life!!!! I am so sick of these calls. Can't they just be arrested?? Caller ID identifies this scam artist as Allied Data Cor. There should be a special place in hell for these telemarketers who call during dinner (twice tonight!).

Received another call from 281-558-7176 today.  Did not answer it since I recognized it from this "collection" agency.  They had stopped calling me after I told them I was not the person they were seeking.

That was about six months ago.  Now they are calling again.  Why is it the call the cell and not a land line?
I've always had a solid credit history with no blemishes  - are they calling randomly hoping to catch someone who might pay them to settle a "debt" that may not even exist.
How does this company continue to operate without the FTC or some other government agency shutting them down?
Best bet is to ignore these calls.  It's a scam.

Tell them you've already reported them to the Fair Trade Commission because you know they're breaking several laws...first of all, when you tell them to STOP CALLING, the Fair Dept Collection Act state they they HAVE TO STOP. Matter of fact, tell them you've already consulted an attorney...they won't know any different...

I got 3 calls from them today!!! I've worked in collections the last 7 1/2 yrs & one thing we can't do is call a number more than TWICE...they're breaking the law that protects the Consumer under the Fair Debt Collection Act. I don't have the blocker you do but I save the number as Collector or Collection and when it pops up on my display I just hang it up...kinda works the same! Unfortunately there's not much else we could do...there are just too many of these companies! Best advice is to NOT ANSWER and hang it up as soon as you see who it is! This company is a debt collection agency for AVON INC. Due to problems outside of my control I was placed in debt collection. (Hey it happens.) The agent contacted me once and I tried to nicely explain my situation and asked her to mail me a bill and then I would contact them for payment arrangements. (I don't pay NOTHING without calling the company). They immediately started the threats and harrasment. The daily calls began. I was told they were going to sue me. I had already asked several times to be put on their do not call list. The final straw was the agent (who is always the same lady but lies about her name) who began saying that she didn't see any notes and did I have an attorney. I said flat out that they were going to give me a heart attack and she said "That's not true". Um, honey I was just discharged from the hospital the day before for a cardiac episode. Now they call me EVERY SINGLE DAY. I blocked their number on my phone so it rings once and then ends the call. Seriously people - I ATTEMPTED to work things out but you got someone who knows more about my health then the hospital and who thinks it is OKAY to yell at a customer. Kiss my toe you'll not see a red cent.

They do pretend to be lawyers, but they're not.

You can also go to the Better Business Bureau site (for TX since that's where they're based) & file a report. They'll contact you by e-mail and will be a go-between. I did that with one company when their employee implied that "we both know if you intended on paying this you would have"...he was out of line & once I filed a complaint and the BBB stepped in the calls stopped completely. Can't hurt to try this route...Good Luck!

Well, it depends on who they are calling for. If they are a legitimate debt collection agency (which seems unlikely) and you do owe money to someone (apparently they won't tell you who) then by law you can contact them and tell them to stop calling you.

If you're in the position I am where I seem to have gotten a phone number where the previous line owner maybe owed some money, explain to them that the number they have is no longer correct. If they continue add them to your phone company's blocklist if you have one. If not you might have some luck reporting them for harassment to the police. Or get clever and maybe tell them something like, "Eric used to live here but he moved, here's his new number: <number of a payphone>"

On the other hand if they are a scam , which is what seems to be the case, report them to the FTC, the federal Do Not Call List, and the state attorney general. More info here:
