I received a call from this number.  Missed call said it's Novolinktest. My cell phone was on silent so I didn't hear it ring.  I also think they're calling me at work. Can a debt collector actually contact you at work?  Not only that, my work has an automated system so anyone that calls my workplace would have to press a few numbers in order to get to a live person but for some reason, they were able to call directly to my direct line. Is it possible for debt collectors to harrass you while you're on the job?

This time this number caller ID says NOVOTESTLINK ... *sigh*  I did not answer again...United Recovery Systems - I wonder if they are pinging the number?  Why else would you have a test link?  There is a Portuegese Company named Novo Test Link, who appears to have a selenium based video capture software in beta testing or even for sale now...maybe United Recovery Systems have a stake in their company?  Maybe they are using this technology?  Not that I understand what this technology means or anything....

I got a call today from this number.  Third or fourth one I've got in my tracking log.  Same outfit, different number and location; seem to like getting people from Texas to do their bottom feeding for United Recovery Systems.  Only thing that comes from Texas is steers and qu***s (no prejudice) come from Texas and you don't much look like a steer Gunny Hartman, D.I. in Full Metal Jacket said.  LOL Just had to say that.
Just keep 'em comin' as I'm building a case on them. Hope I don't make a mistake and plug my computer into 115 vac by mistake and fry their mainframe.  Thanks to all for your great input.  Isn't this site wonderful?  Thank you 800Notes.

ACA's Angle: New Truth in Caller ID Act Brings Important Changes for Companies that Call Consumers

By: Valerie Hayes, ACA International General Counsel and Vice President of Legal and Government Affairs

With a stroke of his pen before Christmas, President Obama signed into law new consumer protection by putting an end to the practice of caller ID spoofing that is often associated with unethical telemarketers and debt collectors.

The Truth in Caller ID Act of 2009 (S. 30) amends the Communications Act of 1934, making it illegal to knowingly transmit misleading or inaccurate information on caller ID with the intent to defraud, cause harm, or wrongly obtain anything of value, regardless of the technology utilized.

The law applies to any individual attempting to manipulate caller ID information to display inaccurate information with the intent to cause harm or deceive a consumer, including third-party debt collectors, creditors and asset buyers. Additionally, the law applies to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

For consumers, passage of the Truth in Caller ID Act is a welcome reprieve from deceptive practices and provides new protections. Well documented by negative media coverage, a groundswell of consumer frustration, in some cases outrage, fueled lawmakers to step into the fray to champion new reforms.

For debt collectors, the new law provides an opportunity to weed out users of this deceptive practice and improve the industry?s reputation. Debt can and should be collected respectfully and in compliance with federal and state laws - those who can?t collect in such a manner should be held accountable.

Although the Truth in Caller ID Act places considerable restrictions on caller ID manipulation, it does not prevent or restrict individuals from blocking caller ID information from being transmitted. However, it doesn?t change the existing provision in the TCPA prohibiting telemarketers from blocking caller ID information. The new law raises the question of whether it is permissible for a caller to display a local number on caller ID when contacting consumers and the caller is not located locally. While the FTC has frowned on this practice, it is unknown how courts will interpret the Act?s application.

Violating the Truth in Caller ID Act will be expensive. With a two year statute of limitations for civil penalties, fines can be up to $10,000 for each violation, or three times that amount for each day of a continuing violation, up to a total of $1 million for any single act or failure to act.

While there is no private cause of action under the Truth in Caller ID Act, both the FCC and state attorneys general have the authority to enforce the Act. Violating the act will be expensive - civil penalties and criminal fines can be up to $10,000 per violation and three times that amount for each day the violation continues. Penalties and fines are capped at $1 million for any single act or failure to act.

ACA International is communicating to members in a number of ways to keep them abreast of this new law and other issues pertaining to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) including a well-attended teleseminar in late January 2011. [More information on this teleseminar is available here.]

These A$$WIPES are nothing but bottom of the barrell scumbags.

Hey, does anyone know of anyone who aspired to be a debt collector?

It would be nice if one lived near one of their boiler rooms. Then, one could take a baseball bat to one of the pitiful miscreants as they leave their weasel hole.

Debt Collector
Although the caller ID showed this call as coming from NOVOLINKTEST it was actually a debt collector called United Recovery Systems.  When I told the lady what my Called ID showed she repeated that she was from United Recovery systems.  I told her that having the wrong information on called ID to get people to answer their calls was fraud and hung up.  They have called me several times and never used the same phone number twice.  I have heard that they are a very shady company.
