This is a fraud campaign currently active in Canada using a series of Iristel VOIP numbers from the 289 Area Code (Brampton, Ontario Canada).  The objective is to obtain your credit card number and drain your account.

If you attempt to "opt out" your number will be confirmed as live and added to a suckers list for repeated future calls.

If this call came from area code "202", would you say that "This is a fraud campaign currently active in Washington, DC"? No, you wouldn't. VOIP calls can come from anywhere in the world, Nigeria for example. It's been stated on this forum that caller ID is becoming obsolete. The caller ID of any phone, anywhere in the world, can be faked. What you mean is that you received a phone call from a foreign, or domestic criminal.

Just got a call from this number that hanged up after I picked up the phone. This number is registered with IRISTEL INC. (VoIP provider)

20 seconds before I got a call from unidentified number with some BS about my number was selected press 3 blah blah blah. I did not listen to the end and just hanged up.

I got the same type of call today. SO ANNOYING.

Number shows up on caller ID, but no message.
