Received a call from EcoStar Energy from Brandon. Knew my last name - asked for a Tuesday or Wednesday appointment. Advised him that we did not need a check of our furnace and he politely ended the call. Have a feeling that they are looking for a foot in the door.

Have heard similar stories about that Red sticker that they can place on your furnace and then report you. You then need to get an official rep from your provider, or from them to come in and remove the sticker or else they shut down your furnace (as it is unsafe).  Definitely do not let anyone into your home to do this type of check up if they are inviting themselves in.

Just had a call from 289 818 1738 saying they needed to set up an appointment to check the safety of my furnace. As others mentioned, lots of noise in the background. My husband advised he was in HVAC and that the furnace was recently serviced. The guy then said thank you and hung up.

Just had a call from 289 818 1738 saying they needed to set up an appointment to check the safety of my furnace.
When I pressed as to why she was calling me and who she was actually working for, she did admit that they were not associated with my energy company but that they needed to check the safety of my furnace. She really emphasized 'safety' as if our furnace was about to explode.
I was not impressed.

Someone called to set up appointment for Saturday and said it was free. I was suspicious and called back the number. A man answered the phone and said " Mr or Mrs." Who does that?

Got a call from a woman named Evelyn with Ecostar Energy calling "in regard to the inspection of" my furnace. There was a great deal of noise in the background. When I told her that I didn't recall asking her company to inspect my furnace and that I never deal with telephone solicitors, she told me to "Have a nice day, ma'am," and hung up. I have read that these people come in, inspect your furnace and then put a red tag on it and turn it off. You have to go through hoops to get your furnace turned on again unless you get that company to "repair" or replace your furnace.

Hi, same thing happened to me. The guy said he is calling on behalf of ecostar energy and wanted to make an appointment to come in my house and check the furnace and water pressure. He said its free. Also I can hear a lot of ppl in the back ground like a call centre. He gave me this ridiculous number and I asked if it was the company number. He said it was his direct number. The name he gave me was Brandon meadow (fake name). He had an American accent. My instinct was "I don't trust you". Beware!

Got a call just now from this number. Like the others, heard many people talking in the background. The lady said the same thing that they are in the area to do a routine checkup for EcoStar Energy and want to arrange a time.  Didn't give a company name.  I asked if this is a Ontario Government program, and she said it has nothing to do with the government. This sounds too fishy to me. Told her I'll have to call her back after I check if they are legit.
