This David Colby also proposed the same thing to me the assistant position the office the keys Everything I have the infamous check on my hands and will contact the Toronto police for this These scammers just go around ruining peoples lives I least I found out on time These people dont care about anybody

Ahhh, sorry about that Ruben. My apologies. I completely misunderstood your post. I misread it to mean you were asking if she was returning the money to the person who sent here to counterfeit check.

From Jackie's post: "I never received a call all the communication has been trough e-mail and text, then he finally calls me telling me his name is David Colby and that he is sending me a check so that I can get all the items I need to open his office. Then tells me I will be given the keys to the office which if u never met someone why would you trust them with so much responsibility."
Jackie didn't "meet" this person. Never received a phone call either. No legitimate business will send a check to someone they do not know, have not vetted extensively and have not met in person to "open an office".

If you deposit a rubber check that bounces better then a super ball in a cement building, your on the hook for the full amount and possibly more! Most of these scams do involve rubber checks, and they look pretty real. They even send money orders that are fakeroo's now.
When ever you get sent a check (or money order) like this for over any amount you have earned or are owed with notes telling you to send the excess to someplace else.. Thats a big red sign! No legitimate company does this.
Tamianth 2014-03-11 06:41:40 Unknown
Its pretty clear she did not deposit it.. Some of us are a lot quicker on the uptake about these scams. As SK pointed out, had she done so, she would be on the hook for the full amount. And yes, it is a scam..

Ok hold up...I'm not bullying anyone here. All Im asking if she still paying her bank back for what happen to her. I'm might be or gonna be s victim of this scam. Sorry if you miss understood the comment

Some idiot scammer sends her a counterfeit check with plans of defrauding her of thousands of dollars and leaving her holding the bag on possible charges for fraud and you show up here like a bully asking her if she will pay the money back. The only she should pay is a visit to her local police station and report this.
Also, if the number is out of Canada, call the Toronto Police, they have a very solid fraud division teaming with the RCMP with a proven records of arrest and deportations. I personally know of over a dozen arrests they have made.
There are some ongoing investigations at this time.
More details can be found here on contacting them

What if the check is being deposited...or being on hold is that same
Tamianth 2014-03-11 06:09:56 Unknown
If she didn't cash the check, why should she pay anything back? The check should have been sent to the FBI and also reported to the US post office.. Sending fake checks through the mail is a crime so contact the US Postal Service Inspectors: https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/MailFraudComplaint.aspx

I have run into MANY of these scams via CareerBuilder. One gentleman actually sent me a bank draft for 2500.00. I knew it was a scam, but wanted to see how far it would go. I had researched and found that they will send you a check to cash - keep a couple hundred for yourself and wire them the remaining money. Well, a few days later that check BOUNCES and you are stuck paying all that money back to your bank. I informed this gentleman that I was reporting him to the police and he stopped communicating with me - and the email that he was talking to me from suddenly disappeared!!!

I received the same call . Did they sent you the check?
Charlie 2014-03-10 14:32:21 Unknown
That is an obvious solution to a general situation, but what is the specific answer to this case? What has David Colby done that is related to a scam?
Slim 2014-03-09 17:25:01 Unknown
Badge714 gave nine criteria.
The more criteria that are met, the greater the chance of being a scam.
Did you read the other responses?
More information about that scam (and others) is at
http://phonehelp.2truth.com/facts.html
That site also shows how other 800notes visitors have reduced the number of telephone scams and telemarketing calls they receive. (And, a link to Amazon's phone blocker devices and apps is there).

Everything you mention I have also received from David Colby. How did you determine it was a scam?
Jackie 2014-03-09 07:56:02 Unknown
So they send me and e-mail talking about they would want me to send them my phone number which is clearly in my resume, then they had this lady call me for a phone interview with screaming kids in the background, she says if I get selected I would be given a call. I never received a call all the communication has been trough e-mail and text, then he finally calls me telling me his name is David Colby and that he is sending me a check so that I can get all the items I need to open his office. Then tells me I will be given the keys to the office which if u never met someone why would you trust them with so much responsibility. They honestly take great advantage of peoples need to get a higher paying job. :-(

I received an "unbelievable" job offer with the same contact number. Said he was with an IT consulting firm in Canada. Said his name was David Colby. Website looked legit but 24 hrs later it was down. Hmmmm. Apparently been using this same scam for 2 yrs. Gets your info from Career Builder.

100% of all job offers by email, fax, phone, & text are fake. Everyone of them. Is it a scam? (You bet your asteroid kid)
(1) The salary & benefits are too high for the job.
(2) I am not qualified for the job, but they are offering it to me.
(3) The job is in Canada/USA, but I'm in another country.
(4) They are asking for money up front for (training/material/visa/etc.)
(5) They want my banking, and personal information
(6) I'm being asked to send money by a wire transfer (Western Union, MoneyGram, etc.)
(7) They use free web based email address' (gmail, yahoo, accountant, etc.)
(8) The company is real, but there is no person there by the name given to me.
(9) They want me to do a job interview by web chat.

Did you apply for a job? I got an e-mail with this number but I think it might be a scam.
