1.  If you really do owe them money since collection agencies buy paper.  You ask for a Verification Letter first as they must verify who originally owned the debt/paper and you ask for a bill.  By law you are entitled to a bill.  If the original owner of the debt cannot/.will not produce a bill then you are free to go.  I know this for a fact. This is the law. If you get all this then request a Cease and Desist.  Oh, every state in the nation has a ststue of limitations list for debt collection and it is illegal for them to sue or garnish you if that limit has been passed. MO is 5 years.

2.  If the collection is for parking tickets-tolls, I am afraid there is no statue of limitations on civil fines. Civil violations are not the same as criminal violations.  They can still try to collect.  You are entitled to a bill/proof that you owe the money, but, they cannot sue you or garnish your wagesif they have surpassed the number of years your stste lists for debt collection.

3.  Enable the blocking feature on your phone and wella...They will never bother you again. REALLY !!!

I do not owe anyone any money so I blocked them...no more issues no more calls.

Really, all you have to do is enable the call blocking feature on your home phone or cell and enter the harassing number(s)  which will block them 100%.  PROBLEM SOLVED !!!  REALLY !!!!

I called them back after I have received several empty voice mails. The first guy hung up on me.  The second guy said he has no record of my number or that fact that its been called!!!  I have no debt so there is no reason for them to call.  How can I asked to be removed from their calling list, if they have no record of calling me.  Mind you, I am on the Do Not Call List, which seems to favor the callers rather than those of us getting the harassing calls.

This is asset acceptance.  I always answer the phone to make sure that their time is wasted.  I never say anything because this is an old debt that has been written off by the credit card company several years ago.  I am sure that the statute of limitations has run out.  They will eventually stop calling when you start to waste their time.

Bad nuisance calls.  When they take call,, very heavy accent with NO info and hung up on me

I got a call from these people and when I called back they started reading me a list of names, asking if I knew any of them.

These people employ illegal tactics, they are reverse looking up addresses and calling anyone that's nearly a remote match. Had they performed their due diligence they would have seen the people the are trying to reach simply lived at one point in my apartment complex. But their matching system ignores Apt #.

LESSON: Pay for unlisted phone #. Don't live in apt. complex where anyone has owed money.

They've even called me at 6:30am.  Several calls a day.  I owe no money.  I haven't picked up the phone. Appreciate above information.

Take that.  I have blocked those calls through Comcast Xfinity.  If they keep calling, I will file a complaint with the State Attorney General (who has already filed multiple suits against collection agencies).  I do not know who they are calling to find, as they never answer when I pick up the phone, and they never leave messages.  I will find out, and I will do a cease and desist letter.  Complain, people, complain!  I keep a log of all these calls.  ALL of these calls are for people who have had the number prior to us, and we've had it 7 1/2 years!

When/if you do talk to someone, find out who they're looking for, what company they work for, and an address and phone number.  Tell them, in no uncertain terms, that you are issuing a cease and desist, as this is harrassment, and the person they keep looking for is not affiliated with you in any way.  Then, send a cease & desist letter.  Follow it up with a formal complaint with your state's attorney general.  

Oh, and keep a whistle by your phone.  That's helped, also.

They called me about a debt that happened back in 1992 that I wasn't even in the country for! I was stationed overseas! So they said they are sending out a letter and I have to write one back saying I wasn't in the country at the time.

I get a call daily from this number and when I answer, no one answers, they hang up. EVERYTIME!!!!

How do you get them to stop calling, every morning at approximately 8:30 am they call waking me up.  I answer and there is no one there, what do they want, I am over 81 yrs old and need my sleep.  Help me get rid of them.

Calls are continuous and non-stop. There are calls early in the morning. I?ve talked to them and told them repeatedly that the debt is not mine. My husband is a stroke victim and my time is best used by taking care of him not answering harassment calls. PLEASE STOP NOW

They call my number several times a day. They do not leave messages and if I do answer the phone they hang up without talking to me. WTH!!!!   I am getting very angry about this number.

This collection agency is looking for the former owners of the repo I purchased from the bank.  That's what happens when number is listed. Each call I recieved is date/time stamped on my end.

These people keep calling day after day. I have no debts so why are these people calling. Can't the government do something to help.

If you are registered on the do not call list. The next time they call answer the phone tell them that you know your right and that you will report this to the Federal trade commission,But be sure to keep a list of all calls date and time in case you have do it okay. also go to the do not call registry to see your right.

Today is 4/26/12. I have been called 19 times since 4/2/12.  They never leave a message on the machine, so I just hang up.  This is total harrassment.  I am disabled and have been going for open wound care every other week for a year.  I am disabled with blindness and fall under the ADA.  They had better stop or they are going to get sued.
