"Mike" called from 301-685-6380 and said he was calling from the Sheriff's department.  Worried that something might be wrong, I took the call.  Bad move.  After fishing for random information about our business, Mike wished us luck for being in business for so long. Eventually got to the point - looking for a donation.

This guy has been calling me for years.  He informs me that he is Freddie Baker.  He continues that he is collecting for the Frederick County, Md. Sheriff's office.  He has also called me from other numbers using different names, collecting for different law enforcement agency's.

I twice informed this guy last year to put me on his do not call list. However he continues to call.  Man, what a dick!

Multiple names given, Fred Thompson, Bob Burns, Fred Baker, Fred Logan, Mark, Lots of Fred's though!

Just got a call from this number on my cell phone, Said he was from the police. I asked which police. He said county police. I asked which county. He said Frederick county. He was calling to ask how my business was and that if I ever had a problem I should not hesitate to call the police. Duh! Then he started to tell me about a fundraiser they were doing at which point I told him I was not interested and terminated the call.

Scam, called many times and has told me different names even though I recognize his voice.  Greeted with "Hi this is Art Baker with the police department".  Isn't this illegal?

Report them to your local police and they'll tell you they are scammers.

P.S. Other names used (Fred Baker), other police/sheriff department names as being represented, all from same phone number.

Guy, "Mike Cabot" calls and says he offering advertising in a "Police Journal" for Charles County Sheriffs. Journal goes to active and retired cops, he says. Says full page is $380, 1/2 page is $280, and 1/3 page is $180. Told him $180 too much, he knocked it down to $100. I asked him if he was a sworn officer, he said no. I asked him how he was connected to Charles County's Sheriff's Office, he said he was a dispatcher. He said he wasn't taking money over the phone but would send a UPS guy to my house tomorrow to provide information and a copy of the journal AND collect tthe check! Told him I was not going to get pinned down waiting for anything. Told him to send information and copy of journal, if I liked it, I'd take the check to the Sherrif's office. Which office was he working out of? I'll leave check with desk sergeant. Uh, I'm not working  out of the office. I said, well okay, send the information. We'll see if he is that stupid to waste whatever UPS charges for that service.

Checked this site and others, looks like just a scam to obtain overpriced paid advertising. I am reporting this to the Charles County Sheriff's Department with this transcript. At the least, this guy impersonated to me he was a county employee (i.e., a dispatcher). By the way the phone belongs to someone in Damascus, Maryland and is a voice over internet protocol (VOIP) line.

Same here.  He called my business and was vague with my receptionist.  Said it was not a charity call.  His number was not identified.

He claimed he is calling from county police. I didn't wait or interested to hear what he has to "offer". Told him to take my number off his calling list and hangup.
