This person calls me for a friend's son not paying his loan. He said I am as a reference person and need to get phone number for my friend's son. I say why you don't have his number and he said oh you know people change their phone number all the time. He wanted me to pay him. I hung up the phone finally. His phone # was 866-517-3096. ext 04e. Called from Sallie mae?

Called Verizon to get this number blocked... IT IS NOT A LAND LINE!  (only land lines can be blocked).  Somebody trying to get information.  You can not block a cell phone if that is what you are trying to do.  Just hope info is helpful.  All you can do is not answer.

It's Sallie Mae, they call me constantly.  I asked one of them what the F*** do you want? and was told that I needed to watch my language.  I told her that if my language was offensive then she didn't need to call me.  She hung up.  Nothing worse than pond scum trying for the high road.  I make a point of cussing just because they find it offensive.  It's cheap entertainment.

It's Sallie Mae and I called last week and about 1000 before telling them I'm unemployed and found a job and will not be starting until Mid October and they still call. No messages are left either. I spoke to an agent last week she said its a recording and she knows my situation but the others don't. I said why don't you put it in the computer stating I'm unemployed she said it is but you will still get the calls. It's unbelievable because I have other loans through other companies and I do not get harressed from them from 8am-9pm every day!!!

Sallie Mae is exempt from all debt collection practices. You can tell them off, send certified letters and whatever and they won't stop. If you can't even discharge it through bankruptcy (and you can't...I went through chapter 7 a few years ago), you might as well call it "zombie debt".

This is one of about a zillion numbers...if you've been ignoring calls from other numbers, you'll get a call from this one, and probably still others in the future.

I am absolutely positive that this is a scam.  When I called the number that the "phony" Sallie Mae service representative called me from, I got a recorded message that asked me to ENTER MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER or wait for a service agent to take my call!

Beware -- "real" Sallie Mae representatives request clients to provide their customer account number at the beginning of a service call, NOT the client's Social Security number.

My advice: Don't give these people any personal information -- just hang up!

I'm also pretty sure this is a scam.  I became suspicious when the caller, a woman who claimed to be a representative of Sallie Mae, asked ME to identify myself and to provide my account number before proceeding with the call.  I became even more suspicious when I remembered that I received an e-mail a few days ago confirming my latest payment to Sallie Mae, which I made well before the due date for this month.  Also, the caller's number wasn't a 1-888 number, which Sallie Mae uses for customer service.

So I hung up on the caller, and checked my Sallie Mae account online.  Yes, my account is current, with no past due amount or other problems.  Then I called Sallie Mae and told their phone representative about the call and asked him to check out the phone number of the woman who had called me.  He told me that her number IS NOT associated with Sallie Mae.

That's why I think it's some kind of scam.  I suspect that the "phony" Sallie Mae caller was fishing for my personal information -- student loan account number, Social Security number, whatever she could get.

These a***oles - and I am sorry but there is no other word to adequately describe them - call my line at least 8 times a day starting at 8 am and when you answer the phone there is nobody there.  They are SALLIE MAE.  Thanks to the Republicans in Congress they are empowered to do basically anything they want in their attempts to collect debts - even beyond the Republican mandated garnishing of wages and non-payment of social security, they are apparently empowered harass people (like me) who don't owe them anything.

Yes, this is Sallie Mae.  They call me up to 7 times a day, 7 days a week.  I've spoken to them a couple of times and they continue.  They even told me to tell my electric company that I won't pay them part of the bill so that I can pay Sallie.  They could care less that I'm 70 years old and on social security and no other means of support.  As for asking for debit or credit card info....don't give it.  This collection agency wants to tap your account for a payment; they don't care how they get it.  If they get your info, the can say you gave it willingly and not admit they got it by fraud.  Be careful.

I am getting calls several times a day from this number. They do not leave a message and if it is sallie mae they will not get any money out of me for I have no job. They already know this but they keep harassing me. Isn't it illegal to call someone 10 - 20 times a day for the same thing. Especially when you have already spoke to numerous people in the matter. They know my situation but they continue...really sick of it!!!!

I'm pretty sure this is a scam.  I was asked for my credit card number when I tried to ask questions about what this winning entailed.  Something is fishy about this - watch out.  And the person who called didn't want me to wait to look them up online to see if they're legitimate and approved by the Better Business Bureau.

They wanted a payment of $6.95 for this $1,000 food certificate.  Sounds very fishy to me.  Be careful.

As for the company name, the sound on the call was really fuzzy, so I'm not sure I got it right, but it was close to what I wrote down, I'm pretty sure.  And as I see above, this number might somehow be affilliated with Sallie Mae.  I was called back from another number (951) 061 - 817.

That is missing a digit.

oh ... I redialed the 302 - 283 - 4040 number and the automatic machine recording answered with the words: "Thank you for calling Sallie Mae.  Your call may be monitored for quality purposes."

I got a call from this number saying that I had won some sort of prize of $1000 in food savings certificates for a year.  The woman who called me kept trying to get my debit card number.  I tried to look up the company name that she said online and didn't find it after a quick search.  But if this is a Sallie Mae number, it's probably just a new way of them trying to get in touch with me to get me to make student loan payments I cannot afford to make.  They know I'm unable to - and I think they know I'm unemployed, but they ... still want payments.  That's life.

So, now I know that unless this is a new phone line and Sallie Mae dropped that number, it's either someone scamming me or Sallie Mae trying to squeeze some cash out of me.  Right now, I'm just hoping I can afford rent for a few months while trying to find a job.  Agh ... this is so weird.

It's an automated dialer. If you hold on long enough, someone calls and asks YOU to identify yourself. It's ridiculous! I asked them if they had actually read my records to determine their accuracy and to see how many times I've already spoken with them, they say they don't read anything they just let the auto dialer do all the work. They are borderline illiterate criminals

received call on cell phone...no, no message.

Here's my rule: If I don't know the number, I never answer. After a while they stop. I doubt that this
is Sallie Mae...more likely the outstanding/dead loan information was sold to this collection company
for pennies on the dollar. Considering that I was in college 50 years ago (before Sallie was born) I'm
betting this is just another annoying scam.

Don't answer the phone if this number comes up. If there is a REAL problem, you'll get a legal notice.

Sallie Mae. I have a family member who owes them . I owe them nothing. They are calling me to get to them. These creatures call me from a mimimum of 8 different numbers. I have 7 of their numbers blocked.Today I blocked this one. Yes I'm on the Do-not-call list but Since their funded by the Govt, I know nothing will be done. I'm not wasting my time contacting the FTC. They will protect their own.

If this is Sallie Mae then they need to learn how to leave a message. This calling 5 and 6 times days is crazy! Yes people may owe them money but there is a limit on many times they can call and they are suppose to leave a message if they want you to call them back. I guess they have nothing better to do then to have someone making $6 or $7 dolloars an hour to call you all day long and hung up. Guess they are some quota.
