I too last evening received the call at 9:30 pm eastern time, said this time he was from HP and he said I was hacked and he needed me to turn on my computer and he would walk me through removing the spy software.  The caller id said payphone.  I knew it was a scam asked for his number and would call him when I had time, he gave me this number.  He had a very thick indian accent but will bet it is someone that contracted at a help desk for Microsoft or HP at one point.

We got the same call tonight.  Said our computer was downloading lots of stuff and that is why Microsoft was alerted. He said it was all kinds of virus things infecting our computer.  Would not give us specific information but wanted us to give him things off our computer.  First call came from "pay call" and he said he was in California.  He called back and the caller ID showed a number in IL.  Two two numbers were 607-271-9593, 302-464-5393.

I received a similar phone call at 11:30 tonight!  She too had a heavy accent and said she was from the Window's Care Department.  She said that they received several reports of errors I have been receiving on my computer and that I had a malicious virus.  She said it would only take 10 minutes to fix if I would just turn my computer on and she could walk me through it.  She kept asking me if I knew my IP address; she knew my full name, address and telephone number!  I told her I was uncomfortable with getting a call at 11:30 at night and I would have to call back.  She gave me the 302-464-5393 number, but my caller ID captured 510-943-3040 (& V11012317470005).  SCAM is written all over this.

A Jack Watson called my wife telling her to go to the computer due to some error it was producing.  His very thick accent made her leary, plus she could not understand him.  She told him she would have to get in contact with me.  He left the phone number 302-464-5393 (employee number MS0013).

I just spoke to microsoft and they informed me this is definitely a scam and do not enter any information into your computer.  They also said to do a complete virus scan and make sure your cache is cleaned out to be on the safe side.  They said they were aware of the problem with these callers and were trying to put a stop to it.  Basically they are working on the situation.

Got a call just now from a guy with a heavy accent saying he was from microsoft saying my computer had a problem and he would fix it over the phone.  I said I am not putting anything into my computer without verifying who he is.  He said his name was Harry Watson from microsoft.  He gave me this number but the number which showed up in a code on my caller ID was 510-943-3040.  I plan on contacting microsoft directly.

I just received a similar call.  The person said they were calling from the Anti-Hacking Department for Windows.  He gave me an IP address where he said someone was hacking into my computer.  The IP address did not sound like any I've ever seen.  He said not to input the address into my computer but to go to my computer and he could walk me through correcting the problem.  The number of my phone was 510-943-3040.  I put this into google and saw scams.  He then gave me his phone number which differed from the 510 number shown on my phone.  It was the 302-464-5393 showing the scam.  I told him I'd call back.  He called me 3 more times.  I did not pick up the phone.

I appreciate all of the posts.

I got a call at 1:00 today from a man saying he was from Microsoft Windows and I had some errors on my computer.  I guess I had a feel about him and asked where he was calling from since he had such a heavy accent, and he said Delaware.  I told him I didn't want to do this that I didn't know where he was calling from for sure and my computer wasn't telling me I had any errors and asked him how he got my phone number.  He was wanting me to do the "windows" key and "r" key.  I asked for a number to call him back that I wanted to check this out.  I called my local phone company to see what they said.  He said he didn't know anything about calls from Microsoft.  I told him what happened and that I got a call back number and he asked for that.   While I was talking to him he Googled the number and came up with these scam notices.  I am thankful for my local phone company!

Guys claiming to be from Microsoft called and I stupidly gave him online access to my computer since it has been running extremely slow. For $25 he could clean and speed it up for me. The fee would include a new anti-virus software that is hacker proof and a five year free service agreement from Microsoft. He navigated me to the Western Union payment page. I plugged in incomplete info which they caught. I asked for a callback number and name since I had to use the bathroom. That number is 302-464-5393 although the original call came from 510-943-3040. I called the 302 number and read the above email to the guy answering. He "kicked" me off the conference call before I could finish.

Not only did I get the same call. He called twice. The last call at 11:50:PM CST. The strange thing is, he knew my computer ID #. I let him walk me though getting it on my computer, but he had already given it to me, to prove to me that he was from Windows. It took me a while, but I got him to give me the same phone number. I then goggled that phone number, and it brought me to this site.
Two questions, how did he know my computer ID #, and how can I get him to stop calling me? Come on, a call at 11:50:PM my time. Who would believe he is for real?

On Sept 17, 2012 I received late night call from person with heavy Indian accent claiming to be from Microsoft and saying I had serious errors on my computer.  Why can't this scan be stopped?  He gave me same phone number as others on this site have reported.
Why doesn't Microsoft put a notice on its website?  That was the first place I went while the scan caller was on the phone.

I received the call and was very stupid. The "windows" people were on my computer for three hours. I now fear they took all my files which included sensitive information.

I was chargd $750 for services they said would cost $37, and now have to wait for it to be appealed since it was a bank debit card.

They also charged $800 on another card that I so stupidly gave them but Visa saw the problem and called up to say the card was fraudently used and would stop payment.

How stupid could I be? And how do I file the FTC complaint?

Prank Call
8-21-12  I got the same call the others above described.  These guys are still at it!
The caller's accent is so heavy I truly couldn't understand more than a few words from him.  After the first caller confirmed that my computer was turned on, he transferred me to another person with an even heavier accent.

The second person wanted me to hit certain keys on my keyboard.  I told him I absolutely would not do that because I had no idea where the call was generated from.  I asked him for a # to call him back.  After abourt 6 tries at getting the phone # correct, I hung up,

This morning I Googled the # and discovered these messages.  I'm sure glad I didn't do anything they were asking last night!

I have recevied several calls from this same person & phone #. Today I asked him for a call back # and his name, he gave me a # that does not work(what a surprise), I told him I would turn him into the FTC and he called me a "Bi*** or Beach in India",,ha ha  I did file a complaint with the FTC and I will also call the CA attorney general and make a complaint as well.  This is a total SCAM.

Prank Call
I received a call from this number and again, someone with a heavy accent claiming to be from Microsoft.  He said there were problems with my Windows system and error messages, etc.  I have not been getting any error messages.  He wanted me to do something on my keyboard which I refused to do.  I said I would call back and this was the number.  He said his name was Alex Watson.  Cute, since Watson is the founder of IBM and the name of the computer used on Jeopardy against Ken Jennings.  I called Microsoft, and of course, this is a scam.

I just today (7/5/12) got a call from this person claiming to from Microsoft and wanted to go to my computer and do a microsoft symbol and r and then wanted me to input something on my computer in the run window. I was not really wanting to do this...I asked him to for his number because how do I know you are REALLY Microsoft...and since when do they call people out of the blue when they have not asked for it. Sounds fishy to me. I am glad that I did not follow through with this seeming SCAM. No thank you! I would rather take my computer to Best Buy Geek Squad before trusting someone who calls me out of the blue claiming to be Microsoft or Windows. How did they get my number anyway? Hmmm.

A guy claiming to be calling from Microsoft called me and said I had a virus on my computer. He wanted me to go to my computer and hit control and the window. I did this, but then I couldn't understand what he was asking me to do next and I asked him how do I know you're calling from microsoft I don't understand why you have my number. I hung up on him. They called me back, I asked for their number, told him I would talk to my husband and call him back.the number was really 510-943-3040 when I checked my call history.

On 5/25/12 I received a phone call from a person who claimed to be from "Windows" and he said that my computer had many errors.  He had me go into a program that listed various dates and a few of those had a red indication showing an error.  He said that he could remove the errors for $25 to be billed to me by Western Union.  The person had a strong accent and I had a hard time understanding what he was saying but I did what he suggested and then he wanted to verify my Visa credit card.  I foolishly gave him my card number and ended the conversation.  He called me back and said that the charge had not gone thru ($25?) I called Visa customer service to see if ther was any problem with my card.  A Visa rep called me to ask if I had charged $548 to my card and I told the rep that I absolutely had not.  The rep then decided that the card was to be closed and that I would receive a new card number in 7-10 days. I called the phone number given to me by the caller and demanded that I receive a credit for the erroneous or fraudulent charge to my Visa card.  Later that day I received a chat message from "windows care?" informing me that I would receive a credit to my Visa account in 48 hours.
On 5/28/12 (Memorial Day) I received a phone call from the person that called me on 5/25/12 and he said that if I would get on to my computer he would be able to credit me the $548.  I told him that I was not going to get on to my computer and that he should credit me thru Visa from where I was originally charged.  He kept insisting that I go on my computer and he said that I would not get the credit if unless I got on to the computer.  I then hung up and terminated the phone call.
