This is a Landline from Dover, if you do a reverse telephone search, however, nowadays, it could state Dover, but maybe from the Carribean.

Got the letter, handwritten without return address, postmarked Phoenix (to Phila) with Dover DE number to call 302-526-5048...this is a land line to a RESIDENCE..."Cindy" answers the phone....why not block your number, call and tell her "we have attempted contacting you several times without success".  Set up an appointment, of course with no intention of showing up.

I called the number for fun and asked to speak with Julie Bell.  She was not in office so I asked when I could reach her.  Was told she does not come into the office often and he could help me.  I asked him what kind of scam they were running. He said they are a new travel agency and are trying to get the word out to people who like to travel and will give two free airline tickets in exchange for 60-90 minutes of time.  I think they are one of those questionable travel clubs.  They charge a fee and convince people that they can get you exceptional travel deals.  A lot of people have lost a lot of money with another of these organizations, but I don't remember the name.  I think it's the same scenario.

Recieved the same letter today.  I live in DE, but the letter was from Arizona.  I am definitely not calling the DE number to see what is up.  Everyone was right.  There is no return address on the letter.  This company is def. a scam.  This is soooo sad. If these people have this much time on their hands, they should try to do something productive---like raise money for the poor !!!!

I also live in Charleston & got the same letter on Wednesday, Oct 22nd. My letter had the same local telephone nbr to call as you mentioned.

I agree with the info in everybody else's posting.

Any legitimate company would put a return address on the envelope or in the letter. Since mine had neither, I guessing that they're trying to avoid being traced by the US Postal Service for fraud.

From what I know about scams, it's my guess that this is a one time boiler room scam and that all phone numbers will be disconnected shortly (probably for non payment of their phone bills. I'm also guessing that they target marketed major cities and obtained local phone numbers to appear more friendly. These local numbers are probably then put on call forwarding back to their boiler room (maybe in Nigeria?).

I'm NOT going to call just to see what's up, because if their local phone number is on call forwarding to an 800 number, they'll then get to see my phone number. That's how toll-free numbers work. The subscriber/scammer gets to see all of the numbers that called them, whether or not you have caller-ID blocking.

Hopefully someone will find out more specific info & post here.

So I read on here that the consensus is that this Chapman Lane is a scam, but that no one had actually contacted them, so I did.

Its not a scam per se, but it is one of those, "you come to our presentation and we will give you the tickets" deals.

for the record, telling people they have been trying to contact them is a 'perfectly acceptable marketing ploy' in today's Mass Media Marketing scheme....even if its not true, it is the part that made you want to check them out, isn't it.

Oh yeah - their presentation in the Fort Worth/Cleburne Texas area is for a wholesale travel club.

This is DEFINITELY an attempt to serve you in order to collect on an unpaid ticket from a speed camera! Do not respond or call the number.

Cities who have speed cameras use them solely to raise revenue, the tickets are not enforceable unless the person is legally served in person. In Arizona they have three months to serve you. Hence, the instructions to come to an address with your photo i.d. and a credit card.

This is a private company, because these cities with speed cameras (traps) contract out the serving of papers. Anyway they can dupe you to show up is perfectly legal. Be smart!

I got the letter mentioned in the OP.  I was pretty sure it was a scam, so I called the number from work (not traceable by them to my specific extension).  I recorded the conversation, which took about 90 seconds (and told "Jeanette," who answered the phone there, that I was recording the conv.).  She said that she was recording on her end also.

Basically, it sounded like a timeshare scheme they wanted to "test market" with a "select group" of individuals.  I told her I wasn't interested and she didn't pressure me at all.

Has anyone tried calling the phone number?  I was just curious what kind of scam they are trying to pull.  I might try calling tommorow, but I am going to dial *67 first so my number is blocked.

Ha if these people have nothing better to do that scam, I will just call and waste some of their time.   I will pretend to be interested and ask alot of questions, but not give them my information.

I too received this letter from Chapman Lane.  The letter is from AZ and has no return address.  The phone number is from CO 303-222-0077.  It says to call by October 21st.  It also says "We have attempted contacting you several times without success. This is our last attempt."  Sincerely, Julie Bell.  No one has attempted to contact me....that is for sure.  I am not going to call either.  It's bad enough that they have my address.

I thought right away that it was a scam.  My husband said that I should google the letter and I found other people who got the same letter.

Man!  Don't people have anything better to do than try to scam people?

Got the letter too - AZ postmark, DE number, same BS. The "chapmanlane.com" website is pretty scammy looking (the domain registration is anonymized).

I'm having a dispute with XM radio - any chance it's their debt collector?
