It is no longer the case that you cannot contact them. About the time I was getting frustrated with not being able to reach them, they began contracting with a company of very knowledgeable tech people, who speak perfect English although with an accent, and who happen to be based in India. When you call the 877 number of System Mechanics, whoever answers is a member of that support team, 24/7. I was pleasantly surprised. They give free support for System Mechanics products, although if you have other issues you can also get paid support. I again confirmed yesterday that these folks will NEVER CALL YOU, and they do not have your name until you give it to them, or you refer to a previous case number they have opened for you.

You can contact System Mechanics' tech department directly. Called yesterday and they confirmed that they never initiate a call to a customer like the ones from Sodlantech.

Second call this week, have reported them previously here, 303-351-5184, 3:37 pm central, 4/2/2014, has Indian accent, says he is from System Mechanics, but Caller ID shows Sodlantech. I told him my System Mechanics assured me they will NEVER call me, and even after I told him I knew he was trying to get my information, he continued to try to assure me. Finally I told him to get a fishing pole and go to the river, that he would be more likely to catch something there.

I just got this call (in Nova Scotia, Canada) and the caller asked for me by my first name. My question is HOW did they get my name AND tie it to my phone number my when it's NOT listed in the phone book or elsewhere (on-line); I used to put it in on-line registration forms in the past (don't any more) but that would require they have access to that information to get it.
Given the number of reports on this scam, I'm beginning to think iolo (makers of System Mechanic) has had their customer database compromised or someone has access to inside information. I used to be a System Mechanic user but have LONG since removed it from all my computers due to ongoing issues. BTW, it's almost impossible to find a way to contact iolo directly (I know, I've tried in the past) so the problem may be with whatever outsourced call center they've got/had on contract...

You may have been subjected to something like scam #3, as described at
http://phonehelp.2truth.com/facts.html
That site also shows how other 800notes visitors have reduced the number of telephone scams and telemarketing calls they receive. (And, a link to Amazon's phone blocker devices and apps is there).
Your personal information could have been harvested from any number of sites ... such harvesting is now a "business" conducted by scammers who maintain a database of information, for sale to other scammers.

On 3/21/14 at 12:58 pm a caller claimed to be Sam DeSousa, an Iolo technical specialist. Iolo had noticed unusual activity on my computer and wanted to inform me that my system needed to be checked. He guided me to a portion of my windows system that had stored messages that he claimed demonstrated that my computer has been under attack by outside hackers attempting to use my storage and internet bandwidth. He then attempted to verify my identity as a System Mechanic subscriber by reading my name, address, home phone number (i.e., the number he had called to reach me), and by giving me the date of my initial SM subscription. Other than my first name, his information was erroneous.
When I told him so, he stumbled for a moment, apologized, and then read another set of the same information - which this time was correct! He then suggested that I authorize him to assume control of my system over the internet so he could run diagnostics to determine how "infected" my system is. At that point, I told him I wanted to validate the purpose of his call with Iolo, and he suggested I call 303-351-5184 to speak with any one there to validate the call. I told him I would do so.
I compared the phone numbers for Iolo from my records with his, and they didn't match. I web searched his number and found this page.
Beyond being allowed to perpetrate this sort of fraudulent activity, my concern is: How did he get my personal information regarding my SM account? What is Iolo doing about this?

Received a call from 303-351-5184, 6:54 pm central, 3/20/2014.
Said he was calling from Iolo System Mechanics, and I said "sure you are, and I know this is a scam." and I hung up.

Having calls from this number several times, keep telling them not to call, does no good. Who can I report them too?
Wants access to my computer, hah to them. Let him ramble on, told him I would call police, he said ok and continued to talk. How can I stop them?
tazza 2014-03-10 00:08:30 Unknown

Rick 2014-03-10 00:00:38 Unknown

These people, located in India, do not give up.
I would appreciate the email address for the organization
that can deal with them, so they stop calling me.

They've called my house twice in the past week, men with a thick accent, claiming to be from System Mechanic; I've told them, "Stop calling my house. I know this is a scam" and have hung up on them. When will they get the message and know we're on to them?
Suzane Watkinson 2014-02-22 17:56:03 Unknown
So who do we report these bozos to so they stop calling.
i would like them put out of business.
"remember when we came to your house and installed System Mechanic:
well no, we bought the program and we installed it, we know you are liars.
4 calls this week. and I am sure they have cost a lot of people a lot of money.

Same number called me tonight claiming to be working for a credit card company claiming there was a breech of security specifically on my computer. When I asked which of my credit cards was breeched- he would not answer. I told him I was going to call the police so he kept calling the house and I did not answer.

I got a call from 'Iolo system mechanics', saying that I had so many 'alerts', that they were notified to check my computer. I guess I'm naïve. Since I had system mechanics, @ one time, I believed the man from India. I realize now it was a scam. Don't know what I can do now. You can't trust ANYONE!!!

Just had a call from this phone number, man (east Indian accent) stated he was calling from System Mechanics and asked if I remembered having that software on my computer. I told him yes and he started talking about how the company was getting notices from my computer that there were problems with some malware getting in and corrupting my files. He asked if I noticed any problems with my computer and I told him no and that I had no longer been using System Mechanic protection for the past year. Furthermore, in response to repeated claims that System Mechanic servers were continually monitoring and receiving virus attack notices from my pc the individual was informed that I had no interest and ended the call.

He asked if I noticed any problems with my computer and I told him no. He asked if I was by my computer and I told him no I had loaned it to a friend for the weekend. (I knew this was some kind of scam and I'm not about to give an unknown caller access to my computer; I was just toying with him.) After 2 or 3 tries to convince me I needed a new product that could eliminate my problems, I told him I had several virus protection programs already installed and if the Iolo product I owned did not stop the problem I didn't need another one from them! Finally he gave up and said, Well it's up to you ma'am and hung up. He had a strong East Indian accent and was difficult to understand. I'm blocking his number.

I also received a call from the above number, also claiming to be from System Mechanic. Caller said they had detected problem with the security on my computer and wanted me to log in immediately. This is a scam and all they want is to find unsuspecting victims to give them access to their computer and either "create" an issue with your computer then charge you to "fix" it or to steal your identification or install software on your computer in order to steal your passwords. DON'T DO IT!!!
Bill 2013-10-29 22:48:33 Unknown
Received a call from 303-351-5184 wanted me to go to my computer and allow them to take it over to fix it. They claimed to be from System Mech. a program to repair your computer approved by Microsoft.
