I have asked nicely and not so nicely to have our number removed.  It does no good.  Is there anyway to get our number removed?

Before you donate to the Police Officers Association of Nebraska or the Nebraska Sheriffs Association (they seem to be virtually the same organization), check out http://www.nadc.state.ne.us/ which is the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission. For 2010, the POAN paid their lobbyist in Lincoln approximately as much as they distributed money to other charities. Just be aware, if you donate money to either organization, it appears as though the majority of your money goes to administrative costs and lobbying efforts, not to actual charitable work.

I've talked to county sheriff deputies and local police officers, and none of them have ever heard of these organizations. If you want to help your local police officers, talk to one of them and ask them how you can help. You won't get a sticker to put on your car, but you will be donating money to an local organization that will use that money locally, not on telemarketers, lobbying and personnel expenses.

It is the NPOA as stated above.  You can call 1-800-396-6536 and get removed from their calling list.

They have called three times. Twice I told them I didn't buy things over the phone and the guy tried to argue with me. I told him to take me off the calling list and hung up.  Later that night, after 10:00 PM, they called back (I saw the number on the caller ID) and let it ring once then hung up before I could answer to tell them again to take me off the calling list.  THey are very obnoxious!

DO NOT DONATE TO THIS COMPANY.

This is a solicitation company who said they were calling on behalf of the NPOA. I was told they were calling for donations to the fund for Officers killed while in the line of duty. They are calling out of N/E Nebraska.

I asked the followng questions:
1. Are you a police officer.  Answer was no, he was calling on behalf of the officers who are too busy to call.
2. I asked if he was paid for his calls.  He said yes.
3. I asked what percentage of the donation went to the Fund and what went to overhead.  He at first side stepped the question with a question and I asked him to answer my question. He said he had no idea what percentage went to the fund but that it did cost money to make the call.

He was cocky, arrogant, and spoke in circles...very confidently I might add.

In the 1990's I sold a home for a man who owned one of these types of businesses and he said that only about 25% of the money solicited actually REACHES the fund because solicitation overhead is so high.

Myh recommendation...go direct to your local organization and make a donation direct to someone who rtepresents the Fund you want to donate to.

Mike

I asked to be taken off of the list but I am sure that won't happen.

My husband was a police officer for Omaha Police Dept. and now is a Police Chief of a small town in NE Nebraska.  When I told him who had called, he said it is a scam.  They never gave any money to his officer, Jason "Tye" Pratt when he was killed on duty.  My husband was his Sergeant.  Don't give them any money.  You would just be throwing it away.

Same thing Hangs up dosent leave a message and so there goes with the overhead - charge call - no message.... There is probably a charge going back to the gov. on the behalf of the funds over head and so just keep working and paying your taxes and you will be donating wether you like it or not. American way?

Called when I was gone. Was going to call back since it said "Police of..." on CID. Thanks to your comments I'm not going to. If they call back I'm going to tell them to take me off their calling list even though they probably won't. (worked at a telemarketing company, had to quit because they were straight up SHADY)

Has called our business line twice a week for the past month, always a hang-up even though it is answered on the second ring. Thanks for the do-not-call info.

I get calls from this number several times a day. I don't answer because now I recognize it. I'm glad I found this information so I know who this is. That area code is from the area where I grew up.

Multiple calls from 308-217-4600.  Sometimes the phone is dead, other times you can hear a bullpin operation, and the caller is extremely rude.  If this organization is the best the Nebraska Police Officers Assn can find to solicit then they will never ever receive a donation from me.

They have called twice this week, once saying they were from the State Patrol, the 2nd time from the Police Department.  I told them I don't buy things over the phone, and the 2nd time I told them to take me off the calling list. The caller was obnoxious and tried to argue with me so I hung up.  They then called after 10:00 PM, let the phone ring once and hung up before I could answer and tell them to take me off their calling list.  They are very obnoxious!!

Even if these are legit, these third party fund raising firms are known for keeping as much as 70% of what they raise for "administration costs." So no, your money is not going for bullet-proof vests for kids or whatever bs they tell you. Ask them where the biggest street in your town is, and they will have no clue.

Anyway, if your phone service allows you to forward certain numbers, you can have this NE number forward directly to the do-not-call number (800-396-6535). I did, so now when they solicit me, they will just be ringing up their own do-not-call list. I like it as a solution, and I thank DP for tracking down and posting that number.

It is N.P.O.A, and they are legit,as Shawn said, but I told them I didn't accept solicitations over the phone, then they berated me for "blaming the police officers." I even asked for a website where I could make donations. They got irritated and hung up, but now they've called me twice since then and hung up right when I answered (they're probably trying to leave some recording). If you don't want them to call you, here is their info line where you can ask to be put on their No Call List: 1-800-396-6535.
