Check with http://www.charitynavigator.org/ - this will tell you how much (if any) money actually gets to the people who need it, as opposed to the organization.

Claimed to be from the Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation, wanting a donation. Sounded legit but who knows. Wanted me to make the donation over the phone but I insisted I'd send by check after I receive the donation info from them by mail. She said they'd mark me as pledged so they don't accidentally call me again, but I just found the same number on my caller id twice again today. I did get a pledge card in the mail yesterday from them.

The caller ID said "Childrens Chance".. They didn't leave a message on the machine, so figure it was either a charity or scam.
