Well, now I'm really confused. Is this a legit creditor that I owe a back bill to or is this just a scam? I may owe a bill or two from my past but they never leave a message. They call up to 5 times a day. I'm unsure to give money to them if they aren't legit??? Thoughts anyone???

They are a scam. Same thing  they say I owe an old phone bill from pacbell for $800.  This is BS they said if I made a payment by credit card they would charge me a $5 processing fee for every $150. Then they said BUT if I pay by electronic check it was only $1.50! They were phishing for my bank account info. And the scary thing is they already had all my other info.  They just needed the final piece, they must have stole info from pacbell somewhere in the merger.

I called this number (after receiving 2 messages a day for the past week).  The person I spoke with said this was a collection attempt for pac bell from back in 1998.  We had a account, but it was always paid on time.  Account has been closed for about 9 years.  They said we owe $408.23 (orif. $146.03).  DO NOT PAY THESE PEOPLE unless you verify the debt with the supposed original company!!!!!

I've been getting voicemails on my cell phone from "American Agency" for a few weeks now.  They are very persistent since they are a collection agency, so I just called them from a land-line.  They were very nice and it turns out they had a wrong number.  You'd think they would get the message when my name comes up in my greeting and not the name of the person they were trying to contact!  I was a little irked that they did not identify what the call was about in the message.  All very cryptic.

If you do not recognize a number, do not answer your phone. If nobody ever answers these calls, they will stop. Do not call them back or become upset. These calls are a ploy by the cell phone providers, propogated by the sale of our phone numbers to anybody willing to pay for them, to increase usage, and therefore increase charges and provide them justification for more bandwidth allocation. If nobody ever answers these calls, then the calls will not generate the desired effect. The calls will then become an expensive liability to the callers, and they will be forced to stop.

If somebody calls you from a number you do not recognize, and it is important, they will leave an important message. Then, you can call them back.

These duffases keep calling our house and saying they need to speak to us on a very important matter.  The lady spoke to my 12 year old daughter and ask her to take this number down and to have me call them back as soon as I got home.  Well I didn't...I looked on here first to see if this number was linked to something shady, and as I can tell it is.  These people need to stop.  I want their home phone number so that I can call them and bother their family during dinner and quality family time.

I keep getting calls from them. I called them back to find out what is going on. They asked for the last 4 of my wife's SSN and I refused, and they got ancy.

So I have filed a claim with the FTC. See what happens. I just want them to stop calling. 2 and 3 times a night is ridiculous!

This weird guy keeps calling me with an accent. I think his name is Rake...if I understood correctly. I just read the above comments, and I do remember someone calling me months ago on an old Pac Bell account bill. It was from the 90's. I do not trust these people and further more even if I did owe from way back then, wouldn't it be on my credit and long gone? Scary people. Is there a number we can call to block this number?

I've been getting these calls for weeks. I screen all calls thru my caller id, so I never pick up when I see the number, but they always leave an annoying message. I finally called back and got through pretty quickly. The heavily accented woman answered and asked how she could help. I simply gave her my phone number (since they already had it) and told her to stop calling it. She then asked me to wait, while she looked it up, (it only took a minute) then asked if (my long ago ex-wife) lived at this number and I told her no. (I should have given them her number. Lol! But I would have told her no, even if she had mentioned my name.) She then said that she would put my number on the do-not-call list and that it would take up to 48 hours for the calls to stop. A lot easier than I thought, or at least I hope it was. If they don't stop, I guess all I can do is file a complaint with the Do-Not-Call registry and see what happens then. They ask you to tell the people to stop calling first, before you file a complaint. I'll let you know what happens in a week or so.

I keep getting calls from them too. They are trying to collect on an debt that is 10 years old. I laughed in their face and told them to kiss my a**. Please do not fall for these people. If the account with the original creditor is over 7 years old they can not include this on your credit report. Also check with your state on the statue of limitations on collecting on a debt. What I really thought was funny, was that they are trying to collect on a cellphone bill from Sprint from 10 years ago. Well even though I owed Sprint this money they still opened another account for me 4 years ago. I never paid the old bill and they still took me on as a customer again.

If you call them back be prepared for the thick accent. They are called American Agencies but the people are not from America.

It's been 3 weeks and I haven't gotten any more calls from American Agency, so asking them to take me off their list must have work. I can't believe they kept their word! I should have given them my ex's number!

You know, I have never gotten calls like this before, and I have nothing on my credit (negative). Yet I start pulling student loans to help pay for school and I get all this crap. I think banks are selling our numbers to collection agencies.

I not be handing my cell # out ever again.

Never been so annoyed by a phone number!  They call at least 3 times a day, EVERY day!  They don't even leave a message.  I never answer or call it back.  If it's important, they'd leave a message.  If this is on behalf of AT&T/Pacific Bell, it may be legite as my husband has something on his credit report in regards to that, but I'm afraid to call them back after everything I've been reading.  I'm not sure I want to deal with it.  It's like $300 and it's from 6 years ago!!  Give it up already!  I guess I'll just let my lawyer deal with it!!

I have been receiving calls from American Agency almost daily for weeks.  I do not return the call because it is a recording and the message gives no information about the call.  It has become very annoying and I think I am on a Do Not Call list so I do not understand.  The phone number left is :  877-728-8912

I was recieving calls from these people two years ago.  They were calling me almost 3 times a day...every day. The calls finally stopped.  They insisted I owed money from a Pacific Bell bill from 10 years ago and they kept telling me it was on my credit report.  I told them there was no way it could be on my credit report since I paid off all my debt prior to purchasing my new home. I even told them I didn't understand how they would try to reach me after 10 years.  I basically told them I am not that stupid to wait for the interest rate to be over $1K before contacting them and if they really needed to find me, they would have found me a long time ago.  Anyway...If they tell you that your information was forwarded to them from some collection agency ask them to provide you with the bill that shows you have an unpaid balance.  They sent me my bill but it did not show that I owed PacBell anything.  I brought this up to them and since then I haven't recieved a call.
To everyone recieving calls from these people, my advice would be to stand your ground.  What they are doing is a scam and I hope nobody falls for it.

A man identifying himself as "Tom" called my place of business and asked for me by my maiden name (I haven't used my maiden name in 25 years) and proceeded to tell me I had an overdue debt to AT&T for 150 pounds.

Yeah, he used the "personal matter" line to get past our receptionist.

Totally fraudulent.

Have received many calls & they identify as American Agencies, not a sales call, but don't give a name or reason for call. Maybe call blocking or anonymous call rejection would work on not allowing these calls to come through?!?
