Got a call from Michelle Newman 'representing' Santa Barbara fire dept and looking for chiro who will accept new patients.. figured scam when she asked if she could sign us up for promotional newsletters.. same number (309)277-0893

They wanted to sell me space, it was telemarketing

Got a call today from "Diana" from this number - same story as all the others...she works with the Spotsylvania Fire Dept. and needs to put a dentist on the emergency contact board for the fire departmnet. This is from Spirit Solution. Will not be returning that call.

Received a call form 309-277-0893 very pleasant man said he was from our local fire department . Now if you are a local fire department why don't you have a local number. So beware .

Apparently this scam has migrated from fire departments into other areas. I got a call from this number.
The pleasant sounding lady said she was in need of a "contractor that can assist me with a project".
It smelled fishy to me. No one who wants to pay me to provide a service asks that way.
Starve the roaches.

Got a call from these morons a little while ago. Some babbling about fires and magnets. I can always tell by the spoofed caller ID, always something stupid and didn't answer. If a name or a local number doesn't pop up it is crap. This call said "Illinois call" which is what comes up on some ph systems as their spoofing doesn't work on everyone. Thank God, that is the only way I can tell it is crap......unless it is a toll free number, which I also do not answer. Figure if it's important they'll call back. Gives me time to figure out if it's a scam and it always is. If you answer these calls you'll just get more, so try to leave them hanging. When you answer the ph you go on a sucker list and will get even more calls as now you've verified the number is valid and gets answered. Remember these people have no idea if these numbers they are calling are even working......until you pick up the ph. Figure sooner or later they'll purge the list and just maybe we'll get taken off of it.

This is all getting ridiculous with these spoofed calls, day after day, all day long. I honestly think the government is condoning it. Probably those involved contribute to political campaigns. Otherwise it would seem the feds could easily put a stop to it. It is ridiculous that the ph company does not give us the option of blocking unwanted calls. Why should we have to buy special devices and answering machines to block these calls? I don't even know how or why legitimate businesses can function anymore. Why put up with this crap when we could just sit at home and think of scams like this ourselves! Welcome to USA year 2014, only crooked businesses allowed! Legitimate businesses get taxed and regulated until they go belly up.

A guy named Nate called from "Penobscot County Fire Department" recruiting the business I work for for an advisory board.  Maine does not have a Penobscot County Fire Department, we have town/city departments.  The guy didn't even pronounce the county correctly and gave me this out-of-state phone number so I was suspicious.  

An employee of mine got a call from 'Tim' at this number.  He wanted to have us as his exclusive referral for people who continually call the fire dept for help getting up after a fall.  Sounds legitimate since I own a home care agency.  Then I found this site.  Thanks for all the info everyone.  I did call our city office and they said to stay away from it because the city is not associated with it.

Received a call from this number, it was a female saying she was with the Joliet Fire Department.

Wow, first off the guy said what's your name when I answer Hello "name of company". (I smell a scam a mile away) So I told him I don't give out my name. Who are you and who are you looking for. He's name was Brian and he was from Racing Fireboards? I said can I pass you on to who your looking for. I was so confused on what he wanted something about fire boards and who would buy them. I was like is it a certain product like ones we sell? I was so confused and finally got it out that he wanted us to advertise on his boards?? this took like ten minutes to figure this out because he was so insistent on getting name from me and beating around the bush. I put him on hold and went here to figure this out. Thanks for all the help with the previous posts. He hung up within a minute. what a joke! I am going to pick up this call and hang up if they ever call again.

Our business received a call from this number from a Michelle Newman stating that she got our number from the local Chamber of Commerce recommending us for a full service repair shop for the fire department.  Didn't want to leave call back information but did anyway since the owner was out at the time.  Did a reverse lookup on Google and found this information site.

Recieved a call from this number and answered it even though the caller ID said "unknown". The caller, named Brian Mapp, called wanting to sell advertising space on a Columbia Heights Fire Department fire safety poster (I don't know why he would be representing CHFD from an area code in Illinois, unless it was some sort of telemarketer). I told him I'd take a message since the owner of our business was unavailable. I took down his information and told him he probably will not be interested. I thought it sounded fishy anyways.

Got a call from someone named "Ricky"  Wants to sell for Minneapolis Fire Department - on Emergency Contact Board.

I received a call from Brian Mapp from this number to solicit advertising for the Niagara Falls Fire Dept.  I then called the NFFD and inquired.  Although legal, it is a bit leazy or mis representitive anyways.  This company send the fire dept. free plastic sheets with a place for phone # write ins on one side and fire prevention tips on the other.  There are advertisments for businesses on these.  Businesses are contacted for this advertisement.  The NFFD does not benefit and will return these back to the company in the future.

Guy calls the office claiming to represent my city's fire dept. He is selling ads to go on their "Fire Safety" posters. Boss-Man isn't available, so guy leaves his name: "Andrew Brown" and his number.
Something didn't seem right, so I went to look at the caller ID: "unknown". I researched the number he gave me, and came up with this URL:

I called my local FD and the Union to alert them of this scam. They said that they absolutely do NOT outsource their fundraising, and any (telemarketer) calls I get from them will have our local area code.
