This Phone number is for Verizon Sales. When dialed the recorded message states,  "keeping customers informed of new products", In other words, they are trying to sell something to you.  

The reason for the hang-up calls on this number is likely that the telesales group is using a ACD (Auto Call Dialer) that dials several numbers at once.  The first call to be picked up gets the sales pitch.  The others hear empty air (you may consider this good fortune, or you may consider it annoying)

Getting lots of calls from this number. I always screen, and never get a message.

I've been getting a call from 309-831-1116 on the average of once a week for the last year.  No message -- I'm in Maryland.

I also live in Maryland and have been receiving calls from this number for the past two or three months. They always hang up after I pick up the phone. So it cannot be Verizon sales.
This may be related either to collections or phone surveillance by the government, in my paranoid opinion.

good I'm not crazy 2 times now I answer the phone and they hang up.  So most people think it's verizon?  has anyone called them and told them to stop?  I will tomorrow and I will be using fowl language!!!!!!

They called today @ 2:30pm. They also called from 309-831-1119 @ 2:15pm. I didn't answer and never will! :)

I keep getting this same call, but it's not Verizon. They always leave voicemail messages stating on a recording that it's a message for my fiancé, and it says that by continuing to listen to the recording, you are him. It's all a bunch of BS, they won't stop calling.

Yep, same thing here - a call at about 7pm, hung up when I picked up the phone. Grrr.

Caller ID: Illinois.  Calls I get to my home?  NUMEROUS!  It's really ridiculous.  This has been going on for months.

I got a call to. It's from 831-1116. They hung up once got to my answering machine. It listed as Illinois.

Called at 7pm tonight. The caller hung up without leaving a message when they got my answering machine.

No message left, however, my Verizon voicemail is now not working properly.  It's Saturday and I can not get any help until Monday.

Received call @ 5:58pm EST today...listed as Illinois. I missed the call and there was no message left.

This number has called us three times since Oct 5th (once each on Oct 5th, Oct 9th, & Oct 10th). Same as everyone else - no message left on our voice mail system, and caller ID displayed "Illinois". We live in Virginia. The 309 area code is west-central Illinois and Peoria.
