A lady called me from this number said she was from publishers clearing house, that my name had been submitted to a sweepstakes.
| Katie 2014-01-15 15:28:14 Telemarketer |
A lady called me with this number saying that she was with the Publisher's Headquarters and that there was a giveaway on May 31st. Apparently my name had been submitted for entry through my credit card company. She did not specify which company or provide me with any other information about the company, instead saying that even if I did not win, I was eligible to recieve free subscriptions to magazines of my choice as soon as I gave her personal information like my age and address. I cut her off after that to say that I was working and couldn't speak on the phone right now, she told me I could call her back with her direct connection. I went online and found that this same "Company" name has been used by other California numbers seeking certain people for personal information, sometimes under the guise of giving away magazines. Seems sketchy at best.

I have finally blocked this number but have gotten a lot of calls, which I don't answer because I don't recognize the number. This time I called back and asked who was calling. The woman asked who I was and stupidly, I told her. Then she hung up on me. I see the number all over the internet and this person is trying to phish for info from lots of people. Who do we report them to?

Got this on my cell phone. Like many other posters I was told that I was a finalist in a sweepstakes, into which I had been entered by a bank and/or credit card company (bank and cc company names not mentioned). Was told of the fabulous prizes available and that they were required to notify winners by registered mail, so would I please verify my address...as soon as I said I was unaware of a sweepstakes entry and didn't want to give out my information over the phone, the caller hung up.
Caller mentioned that she was calling on behalf of some sort of publishers' sweepstakes, so they are probably banking on being confused with Publishers Clearing House, which is legit but which YOU have to enter yourself.

that same number 3108312112 just called my cell I didn't recognize it so I asked my husband to answer, they asked for me and when he said may I ask who's calling they said "publishers" and as he passed me the phone she hung up I tried to call back and they picked up the phone then hung up. If I hadn't found this website I wouldn't have ever known what happened. So what are they using my information for and should I worry?

Was called by this number and told I was placed in the final entries for a $25,000 prize. I think I remember filling out a scholarship or something from Publishers, so I thought at first it msy have been ligitamate. I gave her the po box I am no longer using and hesitantly told her my age and marital status, and was vauge about my job. She said that she would ask a nosey question but that it was for tax reasons on this prize. I declined to give her that info, and she said, "ok," like she was going to move on, then hung up. I called back after reading these posts and got a busy signal. I hope these guys didn't get anything to make a miserable situation for me....

said my name had been submitted by my bank or one of my credit card
companies and I was a finalist to win $25K. That I won free subscriptions
to about 4 magazines (i.e. Good Housekeeping, etc.) for 48 mos. and then
subscripts would expire. SHE knew my name, address, said needed to verify
martial status, age, and then asked about my property's value, after stating she was aware this was very personal info., I declined to answer,
she said "Good Luck" and hung up. Reported to District Atty. office...FRAUD

additional info.....caller ID shows 310-831-2112 to belong to HEARST INC.
I went on that website and did not see anything re: drawings, contests,
promotiions, etc. although Hearst is a well known media/publishing entity
I doubt this is connected and there is nothing in Los Angeles according to
my search...that why it was reported to District Attorney...FRAUD

This is the exact same thing that happended to me from 310-831-2112 phone #, said one of my credit card companies entered my name and I was a
finalist that could win $25k...female was asking the questions, actually
verifying much info. she already seemed to have, and when she inquired as
to property value ( stating previously that it would seem like a very personal question)..I declined to answer and she said "Good Luck" and hung
up. She knew name, address, asked marital status(???)...did not ask SS# or I would have hung up on her. I called this number back about 45 min. and she answered "Publishers...". Did say I had won free subscriptions to about 3 magazines for 48 mos. and then subscriptions would automatically expire...no cost to me. I called the same number back yesterday and there
was no answer, operator told me # is a Los Angeles #YES.....SCAM,SCAM,SCAM and I'm concerned...turned over to our local
District Attorney office... FRAUD DIVISION

This afternoon. Very nice woman called saying that I was a finalist in a drawing and she needed to verify my address...She had the right address. This was so that if I won they could notify me by mail. Said my credit card company or bank had entered me as a preferred customer.
Then she talked about the weather...I asked if that was the only reason she called. She said I won some magazine subscriptions. Then she wanted to verify some personal information. My age. I said I would not tell her, and then she asked if I was married. When I said I was uncomfortable giving information out in a unsolicited phone call, she quickly thanked me and ended the call.
This has to be a scam. How can we contact to close them down. Apparently they have been using this number for a while.

Just got a call today on my cell phone, from publishers headquarters, said my name was submitted by my credit card companies and i was one of 500 finalists. she knew my address, and i verified it, she asked my age, marital status and occupation, and said to be non taxable did i make x-amount of dollars and i said no. she said i would be getting 6 magazines for 48 months for free - cosmo, glamour, etc etc, and i could change them if i wanted to. she said she was verifying information from me for my drawing application. and if i won , would be notified by mail. i am suspicious about the call, but i did not provide any more info than she already had......so is there any danger? Am I in danger? I hope not.
