Debt Collector
Call from 877-448-5584 recorded message from Steve saying he was going to serve a summons in 24-48 hours and to call the number for any questions. He did not say who he was calling or what name was on the "summons". He did not say who he worked for and that the call was an attempt to collect a debt  Upon calling the number, first Stacey(?spelling) Williams said it was Legal Outsourcing and they were in Rochester, NY. Called back and Chris Copeland said it was BSI, a law firm in Rochester, NY. Last time, I was transferred to Daniel Benson who said I was calling BSI and Associates in Rochester, NY, but he refused to give a physical address. I can't find any info on the supposed names of the company names provided by the individuals, can't find any info on the supposed names of the individuals I spoke with, and there is no info on the phone number provided.

I have received two calls from Aaron Matthews, stating the same story. I have reported this number to the local authorities as well as the FTC. These people need to be stopped as they are harassing individuals at home and at work and calling numbers that are registered with the DNC registry.  Get a life!

They are calling phone numbers that do not belong to me.  They have called my mom's house and my mother's cell phone, both of which I have never released to any creditors.  And also have stated that if I don't contact them within 48 hours that they would come and serve me at my place of employment.  I'm reporting them to the the FTC, because it seems like a scam to me.  Any debts I have, I am only dealing with the actual creditors, not a debt collector.

It's a scam. One thing a lot of people should do, before calling these criminals, and going into a panic, is do a search. All court cases are a matter of public record. Check for your City, State website, & then pending court cases. You can always look it up your States main help number in the phone book, & call to find out how to check for upcoming cases. If you get a call from a foreign criminal who is trying to tell you that they have been trying to serve you, the case is on record. (but it isn't, because they are foreign criminal extortionists) However, Due Diligence.

I received a call from this number yesterday. The caller left a voicemail, but the first 30 seconds were blank. The voicemail stated, and I am transcribing this verbatim.

"This is my second attempt to get a summons out to you. If you fail to respond, this can turn into a missed court appearance. I'm going to make a final attempt to serve this summons or subpoena to you today, so I do need for you to make yourself available. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the filing party at (312) 789-4881. Good day."

This is the entire message that was left. The caller did not leave a name nor did he say who the call was intended for. He also did not leave the name of the "filing party".

I called the number that was left for me and a rather stern gentleman answered the phone. He asked me the name of the person who called me and I explained that the caller did not leave a name. He asked me for my number and I gave it to him. He claimed that my phone number was not in their data base. He then asked me for my first and last name. I told him I was not going to give him my name and that it must have been a wrong number since my number was not in his database.. He told me, and I quote: "Sir, if you are willing to take that chance, that is up to you."  I hung up.

I called back about an hour later and asked the name of their company and the gentleman, who was the same person I spoke to before, said the company was "Legal Outsourcing". I asked for his name and he refused to give it to me. I asked for a mailing address and he refused to give it to me. He stated that for safety reasons he could not give his physical address out. I said that I did not need his physical address, but a mailing address instead so that I could send a letter requesting that his organization no longer contact me. He stated that his mailing and physical address were the same and he claimed that his organization NEVER called me in the first place.

After looking the number up here, I now know that this is likely to be a scam. For the record, I can not find any record of a company called "Legal Outsourcing" that has this phone number anywhere online. I just wanted to relay my experience to everyone here so there would be one more person added to the list of people receiving this phone call.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Ever watch the Fox tv show "Cops"? Been on the air over 20 years. Ever see the cops call you in advance to say they're coming over? Just tell them to send anything over to you by US Mail. DO NOT give your name & address. A real debt collector would have this. Then hang up the phone & don't lose any sleep over this scam.

Prank Call
I'm shocked to see the same information that was left on my cell phone with no number showing on caller i.d.
The subpoena, the exact info left from previous complaints.  Mine scared the gajeebers out of me of course. I feel certain they are trying to collect a debt from someone that used to have the current cell phone. I've had debt collectors.  I HOPE THEY NEVER CALL AGAIN AND NEVER SHOW WITH A SUBPOENA.

Lady called said her name was Deliela James, a local court courier, trying to serve me court documents and
that she needed 2 forms of ID and if she came to my work, a security officer would have to sign to prove she
served me. Sounded pretty BS to me. Went to google and found more scam type activity from this #.
Can't the FBI internet crimes div.  stop this type of BS harassment? Sick and tired of this stuff every month a new scam.

I got this call today.  It scared the s**t out of me.  The guy said he was Aaron Matthews and said the 24/48 hour thing and to call this number (312-789-4881) if I had any questions.  I called the number and the lady seemed surprised when I told her the call I got.  She asked what number I was called on.  After finding it, she said they were looking for another person (Paul Coggins) who might have had the same number before me.  The lady was very nice and said she would remove my number.

I'm glad this site is online so people can check out these things!

He called my office while we had the "night ring" on so it goes straight to the company's main voicemail box. Very obvious it is a company box by our outgoing message & left a message WITHOUT leaving any name or reference number to whom this message was for!!! We have over 40 employees at this location! Serving a subpoena &/or summons within 24-48 hrs by a sheriff, blah, blah & to have 2 forms of ID & a supervisor or security guard can sign as a witness.
