Thanks for an intelligent post. It is nice to see someone who is capable of using his/her gray matter, rather than to succumbing to bigotry.

Right when they started talking it seemed super sketchy. He claimed to be working with Microsoft and I could tell right then that the call was a scam. It wouldn't make any sense that they would just happen to have my name and number to "warn" me of something like spyware/malware etc. randomly like that unless they were a telemarketer or scam. When he asked me to get on the computer I said that I wasn't home (though I was). He asked when he could call back and I just said I would be really busy and hung up. I wish I had just started contending everything he said, or even just started cussing him out, would have made it a lot more fun. xD

***If they call you, hang up! I guarantee they're either out for your money or your information.

I called Microsoft and this is what they told me " The phone call that you received is a hoax call. Microsoft does not call consumers to offer technical assistance and force you to allow remote access on your computer. Please hang up the call."

I kept them on the phone for a half hour playing 'dumb'  then, put her on hold a few times... Then when I got totally bored, I started telling them they were SCAMMERS and they should be ashamed of themselves...  the woman 'Chloe' actually had the nerve to call me back and fight with me about that they were a legitamate company.  I kept calling her a theif and scammer and that they should all be ashamed of themselves.. and then she said 'I should be ashamed of myself'.   Then I started screaming at her (like I was crying) ' You should stop scamming people stop! stop don't scam people ' and she hung right up.

Received call from New York at 4:58pm (Mtn. Std. time).  The man spoke with American accent, saying he was Microsoft, calling to ask if I am Bruce Bomer and if I still am in Gamerco, NM.  I says, "Yeah".   He states that he is calling to alert me of a virus affecting computers in my area.  He was representing Microsoft and wanted to check my computer to make sure I was not infected.   He then proceeded to try and get me to press certain keys to accomplish said cure for the virus.  It was at that point, I said,"Who is this?"  and told him I was busy and not interested.   He then kinda hemmed and hawed and said something unprofessional like "Aw OK"

On the road and a call came from 315-100-0123.  Definite accent, middle eastern poss.
"You could poss have a virus, I'm with Microsoft, blah blah blah. Please be turning on you're computer for me..."

ME: "so you're saying that my recently updated Norton, and various other little programs aren't picking this up? Why sure I won't 'be turning on' my computer for you.  There's not a chance in hell..

HIM: "um, are you sure you don't want to be taking the added precaution of this Microsoft endorsed protection?

ME: " I've logged you're number and will be contacting the ... Hello?"
SILENCE/DEADTONE/spineless prick hung up.  I was miffed at that point and tried to call him back and finish chewing his butt.  But alas, verizon apparently couldn't complete my call as dialed.    /-:

Just got the 2nd call from this phone number.  It feels like a scam when they keep persistently asking you these questions.  Also, very persistent about wanting to access your computer even after I said mine is working just fine.

I just got a call from this no. that "I'm calling from Microsoft support center and we just doing check up call to let you know that we received windows log from your computer.  There is malware on your laptop."  I challenged the caller and said show me since I'm a computer programer I would have known everything besides our IT dept would know it too.  The person was so persistent and keep wanting to access my laptop.  I told him does he know that he calls me from my work and that this laptop belong to a co. so I can't allow him to access.  I was just BSing the guy.  How pathetic they are.

Microsoft issued a Security Bulletin earlier this year on these types of calls. They start by saying they are calling from "Microsoft Support Center" & are calling to warn you Viruses, Trojans or other Malware "MAYBE" on your System. For a fee they will scan your system & make sure it is clean & tell you how to keep it clean.

DO NOT FALL for this SCAM!!! Your Fee may be all the $$$$ in your Bank Account or on Your Credit Cards - Hang up on these calls & add to your Call Block List (If you have 1 on your phone)

If indeed they are calling from overseas trying to scam us by pretending to want to check our Microsoft computer systems, then why not simply drag out the phone call and waste their time and money for an overseas call?  I think it would pretty much piss them off.

Just got another call this one from (315) 100-0123.  The caller had an accent and insisted he was from "One Source" and needed to fix my computer.  I told him I was reporting him to the local police and that it was a scam.  This is about the 4th attempt now.  The first time, I called the Geek Squad because I have a contract with them and had them go over my computer for viruses, etc.  So after that, I know I don't have whatever they are calling about.  I believe it is a scam.  the above number is what shows up on my caller ID - but it does not show up on White Pages.

Also received a call from this number.  The lady did have an accent and asked me to get on my computer to do a windows check for a virus.  I told her it was not convenient and with all the scams going on she would have to give me a number to phone back.  She hung up.  Now does that sound like a windows tech?   nope.

I received a call today from this number.

The woman on the phone advised me she was calling from Windows (she had an Indian accent) about a virus that's infecting computers.

She asked if my computer was on and at that point I said to her, if Microsoft wanted to notify their customers about some virus they would not be calling they'd most likely send an email, so I don't know where you are calling from.  Then I hung up the phone.

some male called sounded east-indian. asked for my dead mother in law(passed away 3yrs ago at age of 95). I claimed to be her just for grins(I am male with a bass voice - go figure) . He claimed she was a Microsoft customer and went on about viruses etc infecting her computer and rattled off lots of computer double-talk. Asked  me to turn on my(her) computer (she never had/owned/used) so I played along and made a falsetto bloop-bloop-bloop sound and said it was on. Believing me, he then asked me to press the [WINDOWS] + [R] key combination. (If you don't know, that is the command to run an application or command) At this point I got bored and terminated the call.

I received a call from this number this morning 7/10/13. She actually called my 80 year old mother and asked if she had a computer. Fortunately, she doesn't! I told my mother to tell her she called the wrong number. My mother gave them my number. I answered to see if the call was legitimate. When it was clear she wanted to check my computer for a virus that had been discovered recently in my area, I knew she was going to try to get me to give her access to my computer. She asked if my computer was on. That's when I abruptly end the phone call...and so should you. When somebody you don't know calls you out of the clear blue and asks to remotely check your computer, they are up to no good! Be careful...be cautious....be wise...be prudent! DON'T BE NAIVE!!!
