Someone is using Vonage service to call. This number is Vonage exchange number displayed when you call/receive.
So, it can be anyone doing any kind of business... customer support, wrong number trying to dial in his/her parents etc in India or elsewhere...
Just thought to share that no fault of number itself.

India appears to be the epicentre of fraudulent activity such as the ones described here. An Indian newspaper reported on this fact over a year ago:
"The primary fraud strain in this sector is what is described as the Microsoft anti-virus scam in which computer users receive a call where the caller pretends to have an affiliation to the software behemoth, or a computer technician who offers to fix the victim?s machine?s vulnerabilities remotely, for free. However, since serious problems are always ?detected? in these cases, the free fix comes with a price tag for the additional security measures. The average amount of money stolen was $875, according to a survey released by Microsoft last year. That study covered 7,000 consumers across four countries, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States and Canada."
From "India: Phone Scam Nation," Anirudh Bhattacharya, Hindustan Times, March 10, 2012, available on the web at http://www.hindustantimes.com/News-Feed/World ... le1-823574.aspx
I highly recommend this article, since it explains this and many of the other phone scams commonly reported on this site and even gives the names and locations of several Indian call centers involved in these scams.

apparently microsoft has a tech division in LA to handle all these malware issues. parasite w/an indian accent named "victor famon" and he couldn't even spell his own last name properly. played w/him for a few minutes and told him he should be ashamed of himself for being such a POS. he didn't like that or the fact that i thought his a** should be in jail. he threatened to keep calling me every 5 min. after i told him to f*** off. it's been 20 min since his last call. parasites like these should be flayed alive and left to burn in hell.

Called at 9:44AM on Memorial Day. These people never quit, do they?
| JC 2013-05-21 19:17:24 Unknown |
It's a scam, don't answer it. They want you to let them remotely access your computer so that they can put malware on it then charge you to fix it.
| Josh 2013-05-21 19:01:08 Unknown |
Yes, they are trying to scam you. This is one of the oldest scams in the book.I'm reporting the number to microsoft and the local police in that area.

Got a phone call from this number today. Thing that bothers me the most, he knew my last name. I don't know what scam this guy is running or how he got my name, but there has to be a way to stop him.

I get numerous calls from this # I don't answer it because they scare me. Indian accent with american names yeah right

Same as above. I had been out of town, & there were multiple calls from this # over the last several days. Finally answered this morning, and strongly Indian accented man named Steve (Martin- ha!) gave me the song and dance described above. I finally got into a shouting match with him that I would confirm with MS that there was indeed a problem, and if I needed his help, I would call him. Since then, I have received 6 more calls from them. I asked to speak to a supervisor (HA!). I told then that if they called again, I would report them to the Better Business Bureau, which I just did. The woman there goggled the # & found this site. She was not able to ID the "company". She advised contacting my phone company to block the number, which I haven't yet done, and re-registering for the Do Not Call List (1-888-382-1222, www.donotcall.org).

I also got a phone call today from the same thickly accented man claiming my computer had been sending Microsoft Windows a lot of error messages. He transferred me to someone else, also with an accent, but more understandable. He wanted me to push the Windows button and "r" at the same time. I told him I needed proof that he was who he said he was before I did anything. He said "If I was a hacker, I wouldn't call you up first". I said okay and was about to play along for a bit, but suddenly our call got "disconnected"! BEWARE!!!! I've heard others have gone through with what they wanted and have ended up paying $75.00 to allow them to fix this non-existent problem!
I dialed the number back after about 3 minutes to see how it would be answered. (Joe's Bar, NYPD, Microsoft, etc). When I called, I got that familiar sound and then "This number has been disconnected or is no longer in service".

They called. When I answered it was someone with a barely understandable accent wanting me to search my computer for errors and warnings in my event viewer "They have been receiving a report that my computer was sending them malicious emails and files". This guy claimed to be working for Microsoft. I went along to see how this would play out.
After searching around in event viewer, he then wanted to transfer me over to his "Senior Technician". This other guy comes on the line with a more understandable accent and wants me to type in a web address in the run command box.
This is where I put on the brakes. I asked him "Steve" why do I need to type in this address. He say's, so I can show you where the files are we a looking for. He wanted remote access to my PC. I told him, I wasn't going to give him remote access to my PC. He could tell me specifically what files he was looking for and their location and I will look for them myself. Well anyway, Steve hung up on me after I told him I was a Computer Technician.
Hmmm.... You think they were trying to scam me?
