Prank Call
I did an online payday loan w/a legitimate company and loan is due on 4/3/2014, i received like 30-50 calls on my cell over 3-5 days. A message was @ my job. Alex w/Russell Law firm needs a call back ASAP. OMG. wow.. my job??!! I called # back and he said i was being sued by a company i have a loan with. I asked who, he named 15 places, 2 which i do have loans with however in good standing and non delinquent. Said i was guilty  "check fraud" and some more BS... He has a middle Eastern accent and is hard to understand. I said, i never wrote checks and I kept asking him who original loan was with and he never gave me information.I already knew my 2 loans open were never delinquent so sounded weird. Last thing he said was, We will handle you in court and hung up on me. I called back 2 times and line was busy. i guess he moved on ... next number on his list.

I would recommend that you monitor your credit reports and don't answer the calls.  If it is too bad change your number.  This is probably a similar group to one reported by ABC news in 2012 run by a man I believed was named Patel.  I would let your friends, place of business and relatives know what happened so they won't be fooled and send money on your behalf.  I would also recommend not filling out forms on the internet that you haven't researched.  If the they continue to bombard you with calls file a report with the FTC and the police.  They are very aggressive when they have your information, but if you let people in your life know what has happened they can help.  Don't feel bad about applying for what you thought were legitimate resources, just realize in the future that there are just many criminals running these sites as there are legitimate business.  Always be careful with your information and make sure you have PC software that alerts you about bad sites.  Remember there is no such thing as 100 percent protection online, so err on the side of caution.  Hope this might help you.

I like an idiot filled out things on the internet for loans, grants , and so on. That's all it takes. In 3 days I have been called at least 100 times. Some really are actual legit businesses but at least 1/3 are fishing for people to scam. Today was this # everyone is talking. A man clearly not American quickly and loudly threatened me about being arrested for criminal charges that someone filed against me. I asked what type of charges and he couldn't tell me. Said he was calling from a law office put me on hold to get a supervisor and he got back on pretending to be someone else. When I said it was still him he got extremely mad and said he'll call me back. He didn't so I called him. He then said hold again , hung up and never called back. I'm glad I looked up the #. Earlier a man asked me to buy a money pay hive him the number for security and 10 min later I would have my $1000 loan from cashnet.com. I called cash net and the # he gave me wasn't even close.

It is a man with an accent from India who pretends he works with various lawfirms he has obviously googled the names of in America.  This is his scam, he gets the person on the phone and has obviously obtained pirated information on them to fool them into thinking he is from a legitimate agency.  He claims usually that you have a payday loan and threatens that a sheriff is on the way to pick you up if you don't wire money to him right away.  His ploy is by using your actual real identification information to fool you into thinking this might be real.  This is a scam, do not give him any information or money.  I have reported him already to federal authorities.  I would just ignore the calls or call your phone service provider to see what can be done about the harassment.
If he wanted to be a better criminal, he would take the time to study our laws which he is in clear violation of.  The great thing is that he will be caught because he tries to get people to Western Union him funds, so I am sure at some point the police will be there to arrest him and his band of pond scum.
Please report this harrassment to the FTC and your local law enforcement if it continues.

Some guy with a heavy accent called and left a message for someone whom I've never heard of....he said his name is Robin Parker (yeah right!!) and he said that if he or his attorney didn't call the second they got this message his only choice was to "wish you luck as the situation unfolds on you". Who are these turds?

Good for you, I love it...  I doubt you will be hearing from him again.  He really ought to make up a better name for himself.  He hung up on me 5 times, too bad we can't think of some way to tie up his phone line.

Take care,
Julie

Hi Mandi:
It isn't difficult to get this type of information these days, just about your whole life is on the computer.  Things like this type of scam are difficult to prevent because they try and make it look legitimate.  If you do answer the call, please ask them to spell the name of the company, give the physical address, and their name and position.  Do not give them any information and tell them that you will be contacting a lawyer.  I am sure that it is this outfit in particular, they will hang up before you get any information.  Some people can't handle this type of problem and that is what they are counting on, don't break down.  If you can't handle it, don't answer the phone, block their number if possible or have it sent into voicemail.  Do not send any money, this is a scam...  Protect yourself by getting virus scans for your computers, phone, tablet, lock up social accounts to outside visitors- secure yourself.  Also, if their calls continue report this violation to the FTC because they can't help us if they don't know what is happening.  I hope things work out.

I would caution anyone answering these calls since they are illegitimate and a way to scare you into paying for something that you don't owe.  My 16 year old daughter was called and harassed by them on her personal cell and at her job.  She called me crying because they told her she would be arrested.  I assured her that this was a scam and don't answer their calls.  I called them back and let them have it and I kept calling back to harass them and tell them they were going to jail.  They must have blocked my number because I can't get through anymore.  Don't worry they have been reported by me today to both the FTC and the Maryland Attorney General, it is time we consumers started to fight back by reversing the tables on these criminals who think we are too dumb to know a scam.  I am tired of our youth and elderly being taken advantage of by these bottom dwellers.  I can't wait for karma to turn its table on them...  Report them everyone and fight back.  I guess they change the "fake" law office name each week because it doesn't exist.  I for one am buying a boat horn and am hopeful they will call back, I call it consumer payback time...

The same thing happened to me. They called stating that I owed money. I hung up. I actually called the  number back because it pissed me off. I asked for a name of someone whom my attorney can contact, and he hung up on me. Therefore that proved to be a complete scam. They are idiots and need to get a REAL job!!

Calling again, this time from 911 related numbers. I finally answered and told them to stop calling. My new best friend "Michael Jones" became very angry with me and said the police were on their way to my house right now. I laughed and told him I live two buildings over from the police station (which is true) so if he hangs on the line, I'll walk over there and hand the county sherrif the phone and "Michael Jones" can explain to him why I'm turning myself in. Mr. Jones cussed at me in some foreign language and hung up. Hopefully this will be the last of this.

Is a scam. They will call you from a "law firm" here in the "States". They will say that you will be arrested in two to three hours if you don't pay off a standing debt. This is a lie. The callers speak moderate English and are likely in India. I asked "Michael Jones" if I could speak with someone else and he connected me to his supervisor "Adam Clarke". I laughed out loud. Please don't fall for this scam.
