called multiple times but no one ever there

This appears to be a legit service that is calling to confirm that your newspaper service has started as ordered.  I recently ordered home delivery for the San Francisco Chronicle and received a message from this number.  The message was a recording asking me to confirm that I had begun receiving the papers.

recvd a call however they don't leave a message.  When I call the number back off caller ID it asks for my phone number to be removed however does not indicate who the company is other than "customer service"  I never got to talk to anyone because after the 3rd recording it disconnects.

I received a call this morning and a call at night. They had left a message stating the same thing "if I was experiencing any problems with my local newspaper subscription and to call a 1800 number to reply back."

I received a phone call at 5:40pm on September 8, 2008 from 317-682-1345. The woman gave her name as "Diane." "Diane" asked me if I had begun to receive my local newspaper subscription. I answered "Yes." She inquired if I would like to pay for the first thirteen weeks over the phone with a credit card. I said "No." I checked my credit card balance and learned that the real newspaper had already charged me on September 3, 2008. I called the real newspaper's office and learned that they had already closed for the day. This is definitely a scam to get peoples' credit card information.

I have received about 6 or 7 calls from this number in the past few days.  Never any message left.  Interestingly, I did just subscribe to the local paper and received my first bill.  I wonder if some phone numbers from the subscriptions are being compromised and "sold" to scammers?

Today I was able to answer. The woman on the other end asked me if my subscription to the local newspaper (she mentioned it by name) had started. She then asked that if my subscription had been paid for. And then stated if not, they could take my credit card number.

Was called from this number in Indiananpolis when I was taking a nap.  No message left.  I used caller id to note the number and called back.  Got a recorded message from "Customer Service" saying that if I didn't want to be called I should enter and confirm my phone number.  (I wasn't dumb enough to do this.)
