caller from Student Assistance - asked for my roommate, told him he wasn't home, and asked if I could take a message - he said yes, and he was actually looking to talk to my neighbor that lives about 10 houses down the block and told me his phone number was disconnected. Never heard of the guy at that address and have no intention of passing along the information to this unknown person.

This people are a***s. Along with the people of GRC. I think they are related. I've been getting sooo many calls from these people and it doesn't work telling them that they have the wrong number. I DON'T HAVE ANY DEBT--ZERO. They're not even asking for me and even though I've SCREAMED at them until my voice went horse that I'm not the person who's calling they still don't call. Sending a certified letter now. I will also copy Congress members in my district who sit on FTC and FCC regulation committees.

Got a voicemail listing someone with my last name as a reference for Carol Collins, who I've never heard of. Number was busy when I tried calling back.

These folks called me today and asked for someone I had never heard of. They had my name and phone number, and said the person listed me as a reference. The name sounded vaguely farmiliar but I couldnt place it. Thinking back now, I think they lived in the same building I did YEARS ago...
I'd say it is somewhat legit, they seem to be trying to track down real people using address similarities... weird anyway.
they were polite enough, i think they realized they had the wrong person, and said they wont call again. I'll hope that they dont.
p.s. I'd still be wary of them. Toni do you work for them or something? Thats hardly a normal response

For anyone who recieves a call from this number please answer. This number called me and I accidentally answered one day. Thank goodness I did. They were from Student Assistance Corporation (SAC). They help people who are very delinquent on their student loans. I was over 350 days delinquent when they called. The rep helped me fill out a economic hardship deferment and a forbearance to postpone the payments on my student loan. My loan would have defaulted if I wouldnt have spoken to them

Three calls from "Student Assistance" asking for someone with whose last name is very close to mine but different first name. The first two were left on my answering machine but the number was cut off (1-800 one time). I was home this morning and started questioning the caller (Donna) about how she got my telephone number. She said it was someone who listed "me" as a reference but would not give me any more information about the company or her telephone number. I resorted to the *69 route to retrieve their number (317-841-4706).
The person they asked for has the same name as someone who lived in my high-rise and left suddenly under a cloud according to our resident manager. I went through a period earlier this year with collection agencies hounding me even though I disclaimed any knowledge of said person. I finally starting threatening them with harassment charges and they left me alone.

Yeah, these people have been calling my cell since probably July about three times a day, and I never answer because when I have it was a machine so I couldn't tell them I wasn't who they were looking for-- some person whose name I do not recognize. They are a "student loan corporation" and they've called me from a 1-800 number, a 1-866 number, and now I'm getting calls from a random area code that apparently in Indiana. I tried calling back a couple times today but the line was busy. Awesome. I just don't get the point.

The caller said she was calling from the "Student Assistance Office". She asked for my roommate. When my roommate took the phone the line went dead.
