I got the same call. They told me that I would be arrested if I don't  pay. They then hack into the local police department phone. I didn' t answer at first. I then called the number back and was told that their phones had been ringing all day with nobody on the other end. I don't intend on sending any money. If they call again I will give them the attorney generals phone number and they can take up the matter with them.

You mean this "gentleman"?

One more time, the PDL scam calls largely issue from South Asia. Those which don't are not a product of porous borders but plain unrestrained greed, which the last time I checked is not confined to a single ethnicity.

Interesting that the bogus legal threats could potentially work on people who actually work in the American legal system, which points to a huge gap in consumer education from our federal regulators.

You realize they have telephone service in India, right? What makes you think your PDL thug callers need to be deported back to where *they already live* and called you from?!

My notes from October 2011 on payday loan and "hot check" collectors are linked below.

I just received a phone call about this same thing. They said I could pay half of an owed amount of $648.11 today and the other portion on my next pay day. They new my social security number and said if I don't pay anything today then the police would be at my work tomorrow to arrest me. I investigated the number and saw this site. Unfortunately the police department said they cant set up a meeting for them to be caught due to this operation being over seas. Please spread this information to all your friends and family.

You didn't give enough details - what was the reason for the call?  Normally, law firms do not initiate contact via phone - they contact you via USPS snail mail.

Since you say the caller had your social security number, you should contact at least one of the three credit agencies - Experian, Equifax, TransUnion - and ask them to put fraud alerts on your files.  You should also contact your financial institution just to be safe, and ask them to do the same thing - put fraud alerts on all your accounts.

Right. Because real law enforcement agencies rely on CVS for all their fine collection needs. :-)

I've gotten this on my cell phone, and they've called my employer upwards of 50 times a day using several different phone numbers.  Mostly they hang up, but the same person has used several different names, played recorded messages from a woman into the phone and then asked for me by name with a male voice, cursed at, berated, and insulted my co-workers, made lewd advances at them, hung up on me, refused to stop calling.  I am looking into getting a lawyer to take care of this for me.  Unfortunately, immigration laws won't fix this. these are VoIP numbers, and can be used from anywhere in the world.  The callers are most likely in India and using an internet connection to make the calls.

Google Trans Union or another major credit report bureau and contact them and let them know. They will put an alert on your account so that if anybody tries to get a loan or card in your name, they have to speak to you first. Also, maybe alert your bank. If you want, file a police report, but I doubt it will do any good. I work for a Judge, and all this info was given to me from an attorney. Don't worry....it's some morons trying to scare innocent people into giving them money.

I have been getting calls to my cell and my work from this number. An "urgent" message was left on my machine to call them back "ASAP". The caller was for sure foreign. I finally called the # back, and I got the same spiel that I have been reading from others....there is a warrant for my arrest, if I don't pay them $480 then I will owe over $8000, they are going to serve my work and I will lose my job, I will be put in jail for 7 days.....At first I panicked. He did have the last 4 digits of my ss#, then I hung up on him and told him I would give him no futher information. As it so happens, I am a Court Reporter and I work for a Judge. I had an actual attorney call the # and try to get to the bottom of it, and he was cursed out and hung up on. This is NOT how a legitimate business behaves. I did take the precautions of reporting it the credit agencies, but I have enough stress in my life and I am not going to let some foreign idiot make more. I can assure you that this is NOT how it works in the judicial system, and ignore these idiots. I am with a gentleman who posted above....we really need better immigration laws. It sucks to be a hard working, law-abiding American and get calls like this!

I have received the same calls, spoke with my lawyer and they told me to change my bank account, tell my employer, and most of all protect my identity! This number is a scam they are trying to scare people to send them money they told me they were a law firm but no name, I had fraud charges for a loan I didn't pay, were going to have the police arrest me, I was going to loose my job, and I was going to jail for years, if it were up to me I would send these guys to jail for years and let them rot or send them back to India denying them any more entrance into the United States. Just going to say it but we need to put a stop to immigration.

I had a voice mail from a man at this number 319-208-3749 yesterday could barely speak English said his name was Mike Anderson and that it was a very time sensitive matter and if I did not call him back right away the police would be at my job by the end of the day. He later called my job and talked to my manager and told her I had a fraud case against me and he felt they had the right to know that I was  going to be arrested later that day at work. Luckily she didn't fall for it and told him it would be hard to arrest me at a job I no longer worked at and haven't worked at for several months. I do still work there but he was real quick to hang up in her face after that. Have not heard another word from them and the calls have stopped.

Received a call from an Indian speaking man claiming to be Ray Pearson at 319 208 3749 and this was a time sensitive matter.  Told me not to disregard my call, have my attorney call him and that the only thing he could say to me at this time was to wish me good luck and that the problems lie in my own hands and GOOD LUCK.  Got real mean with the GOOD LUCK REMARK.
