Okay so I got hired by a Larry Jeff yesterday and suppose to be getting a check today for my first 2 weeks and for office supplies. I told him I did not have a bank account and he said take the money I'm sending you and open an account. That raised flags to me because why should he care how I cash the check. He even gave me a tracking number for UPS to track the package. He has sent me three task which all were about balancing a check book. He even said something to me about me going offline for a few minutes he said I am suppose to stay on yahoo as long as he needs me to be and to be show available to him. These people are crazy and as soon as I get the check I'm going to the police.!!!!!! I refuse to be bullied ever again. Jobs on Craigslist are a joke. In the listing on craigslist it even said for my area and it had an actual email address so I thought it was all good but guess what I did some research and found this and found nothing about his name online or the supposed business he is running. I found a Business called the same thing that works with law firms...EVERYONE BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU DO ON CRAIGSLIST ITS ALL A SCAM ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!

I, too, found his ad on a MT cragislist ad.  He contacted me as Toni Adams and then Tony Adams.  Not the sharpest knife in the drawer.  His grammar and spelling is horrible.  If you can't spell your own name correctly, it's pretty obvious you're not an actual business owner.  Watch out for this guy!

Well, this is very interesting.
I have been corresponding through emails with this guy for a couple of days now.  No phone calls and I found this page when I Googled his Yahoo ID
Every time I did ask a question I got no answers so I was getting suspicious.

If he means to scam people, I am surprised he lists his phone number in his Yahoo profile.  I wonder what this is really about.  I am thinking it is one of those marketing things where these guys get paid for verifiable contact with people...and for every reference we sent them, they get more people.?  Has anyone actually received a check?  I am curious to know about THAT because now it is becoming a bigger offense to be using the mail for this fraud.

This was in Maryland Eastern Shore craigslist

I responded to NJ Craigslist Personal Asst Ad, requesting where the home office was located and my response wasn't clearly answered.  I find this highly suspicious and thank everyone else for posting.  I had no telephone calls.  just email correspondence.

Hi TJ,
I am also in Vegas and I was just talking to him over the yahoo messenger. I figured it was a scam when he said he needed me to order things from Amazon, UPS, and FedEx from my account. If you're a business, why would I need to put the stuff in my name? I lied like I did it until I could do some more research on him. And when I started to ask him questions about the business again, he said it was in the email he sent me and then said he needed to tend to someone. And long and behold I find this site. I knew it was too good to be true.

I was hired the same day, in Vegas. Yes the check will be a fraud, it happened to me, but luckily I only lost $1. Please report this to Internet Crime Complaint Center, make copies of all correspondance and anything you received.

I got the same job, ha ha. The same thing happened to me a while back, however I was lucky and only lost $1 instead of $3000. Please for everyones sake file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center. I just reported Toni with the info I had. It probeley wont get your money back but maybe it will help others. Make sure you keep copies of everything, you will need to supply them to IC3.

I think I know the scam. He sends u a check and gets u to send out money to either him or his partners in crime. When the original check he sends u is returned, you owe the bank the money you now gave to these people. Which you may never be able to track down. He said the business name is Goodwill Ventures. I couldn't find anything saying whether this business is real or not. I hope to get the check and hold it an account for as long as I need to feel comfortable. If it clears and stays cleared for a week I may pull it out.
Andy- not Toni Adams.

After the check clears it shouldn't be able to be denied. Once money is in your account the check is cleared and cash is yours. How did this happen and what should I do with my check?

I feel like I helped him scam people. I posted for him on craigslist some personal assistant stuff and personal driver stuff. I posted the ads in the states of montana thru Pennsylvania in alphabetical order. I don't understand what is going on. I hope it's nothing harmful to my family.

The check was sent to me for $3464.00 I deposited it it was held for 2 days sinces it was an out of state check and it actually cleared. After pulling out the amount of money for office equipment and the amount to send via western union to a so called client the check was returned and now my bank account is in the negative $2716.00!!!!!! Any atorneys out there?

I was just hired at Toni Adams' personal assistant! I feel so special! What's funny is I did not fill out any info in the application form they sent me but I still got "hired". I'm glad I found this site before I actually sent any personal info but I wonder what they're really after...

It's Weary again, LOL. I forgot to mention that both the 'Toni Adams' & 'David Mark' scams were on CRAIGSLIST in Birmingham, AL, in the "All Jobs" Section.

Also, WILL SOMEONE WHO MAY KNOW MORE ABOU\T THIS SCAM PLEASE EXPLAIN IT TO ME!!!!

FYI:
--Toni Adams listed (323) 306-4475 as phone # &toniadams27 as Yahoo MessengerID & "toniadams27@yahoo.com" as e-mail address.

--David Mark used "david_mark21@hotmail.com" as e-mail address.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT THE SCAM IS? I know i was suppossed to buy a fax machine, but Toni was gonna send money 1st-so what's the scam? If her check does bounce, no one gets hurt....do they?

And Mark hasn't asked for anything yet--or at least has mentioned anything as of yet?

Well I also got hired today, & I'm really confused & pissed off.  At 1st, I was really excited because it seemed like a great gig for me, & I'm in serious nd of a better job (& better pay). The ad listed all this stuff about being personal assistant & basically doing a lot of comp stuff...well with my degree, it seemed perfect.

I started getting a little concerned about it, when I noticed that the grammar was just ridiculously terrible. If you're a professional who actually needs an assistant you don't type e-mails on a 3rd grade level.  Plus, I noticed the e-mails were never addressed to me...just way too impersonable (like they were sent to 100 other people).

But what finally got me really suspicious were 2 things: 1) in 1 of my emails i asked like 3 or 4 questions...but in Toni Adams'' reply, not a single 1 of my questions were even mentioned. 2) last week i had replied to a mark-something ab a personal assistant job. Well, he never replied, & honestly I 4got all ab it...until last night when he replied. He basically said most of the same stuff as Toni (except) his email was much more personable-even said that he wasn't gonna hire me yet, just do like a trial week 1st) & that made since 2 me, especially since we haven't even met!! Yes, $600/wk for ab 25 hrs/wk at home seemed to good--but I actually have a friend that has a personal assistant job & he makes a lot more than he should for what he does.

But both Toni & Mark paid ab the same, same amount of hours, & that just seemed way 2 suspicious!

******BUT CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT THE SCAM IS? I know i was suppossed to buy a fax machine, but Toni was gonna send money 1st-so what's the scam? If her check does bounce, no one gets hurt....do they?

How funny! I was just "hired" as Toni's "personal assistant" this morning and was given a list of things that I needed to purchase. He also said my first task after giving him an estimate of the cost of these things was to meet him on yaho messenger. I can't believe there are actually people out there that have no life whatsoever and are trying to scam others that are just out there trying to make an extra buck. What a jerk!
