Reading through the posts and seeing repeatedly this is a fraudulent number I contacted Verizon.

They confirmed that both the phone # 323-404-9261 and the text message "FREE MSG: It is important to make Verizon Wireless payment within the next 24 hours. Please visit Http://VZW.com/paymybill or call 800.249.2462" were legitimate.

I kept getting a call from these two numbers: 916-248-8405 and 323-404-9261 saying it was Verizon Wireless and that they are looking for Frederick Knight. They sound like they want payment. My number is not even through Verizon!!! Annoying!

I just got another one this am. It's disturbing that some persons here are saying it's definitely legit. It's easy enough for huge volume, automated calling devices to hit on someone who's behind, scammers count on that statistical likelihood.

To my knowledge, VW would not call, period, for a lateness of 5 days or under, if that fits anyone's scenario.

I do know there's some unevenness in the knowledge base of different VW cs reps, but, after 12 yrs w them, I've been completely satisfied that the company policy is that of customer respect and satisfaction. Guerilla collectors do not fit that approach v the huge company I've finally dropped...

It's also easy for persons sophisticated enough to run these scams to come to sites like this and say the number's legit (obviously not referring to the person who said it's legit but to block it, although they did not present any valid evidence that it is legit...one misinformed rep saying 3rd parties are employed, which I suspect was their source--is not credible.

Plus, there are very different levels of collection--3rd party for some companies starts when thet hv sold off the debt, for others-- like the huge one that the Justice Dept needs to take on--when you read one of their ads.

I think the safest thing to do is follow the advice here of those who have said these are definitely scam calls. I block the numbers and call my company directly. The legit looking links these huys provide can be almost identical to authentic ones but off in subtle ways. I haven't checked the one mentioned here out but don't remember adding 'mobile' when contacting VW for an online pmt. I'm pretty sure there's something off in that link but could be wrong. I'm going by what those who've done some investigation have recommended.

(I have gotten some tacky looking text messages from VW about adding extra data when I'm low and at a halfway point--I just started with a new plan and I think these are a help to keep you from getting into trouble and are good offers. The initial reps I'd spoken with were completely unaware of them, but they were legit, despite their too good to be true garish yellow on black presentation.

It's a tough new world. It really is making some of us seniors--once pretty savvy in the workplace--feel close to obsolete.

I just received two calls from this number today. I never text back or call anything that calls my phone. I go straight to the source. I checked and this number is a scam. Cell phone scams are running rampant right now. If you do not recognize the number so not answer it. Let them leave a message. Then go online and look up the number. Do not call it from your cell. Call it from a land line until you know who it is. My mother recently was scammed out of $500 in what seemed like a legitimate claim because somehow they got their hands on information concerning her business transactions. But as soon as she called them and paid them she got several other calls claiming the same thing and trying to extort money out of her. I've also heard a lot of people suddenly getting harassing calls at work and home on their cells from people who never leave messages or leave threatening lawsuit messages or if you answer they can use the connection to charge your cell phone bill.

Live in Colorado and have Verizon. We've gotten calls from 323-404-9261 on both your house and cellphone numbers. We didn't answer either calls. The house number is an UNLISTED NUMBER and only family members have cellphone number, and we know all the numbers that call either the house or the cells. Got to love Caller I.D.
A friend was scammed by this number about a week ago and their credit card account was withdrawn on within 10 seconds and almost drained.
It happened folks, I can't make this stuff. If I could then I'd be writing some killer Sci-Fi books by now.
Anyways, point is the friends credit card company caught the charges and cancelled them. Now they're waiting on new cards.

Local police in Colorado have been alerted to this scam, it's a matter of time before somebody gets nailed.

It was indeed verizon that sent the text about the account at almost the same time. It turns out that they use a third party billing sevice to handle the billing issues. The operator correctly tells you it is not a verizon number. The operators do not know the billing companies numbers. I say block the numbers, since we do not know if they are legit. Maybe, then, they will do their own calling!

To my Verizon cell since the beginning of April 2014..Also texts that were sent in behalf of Verizon that were bogus.

I am so glad I decided to use the Google reverse white pages directory.  This validated any of my concerns addressed.

Thank you!!! uggh..

Unfortunately this is from "Verizon Financial Services" which calls when your account becomes past due and/or if you owe money and service disconnected. It is not a scam. I will be quite honest I am always about 10 to 20 days late paying, seems I can never get 100% caught up. I have had the same lines for over 12 years (originally with Alltel) and never once had service interrupted for non-payment. Alltel would call me if payment was due and ask when I wanted to pay, I gave a date, they said use credit card with last 4 digits, I would say yes, and then they would thank me for being a valued customer. Then I ended up with Verizon and I was getting these calls from Financial Services and they would talk to me like I was a piece of trash, I would say please set up payment for whatever date and they would tell me we can't do that, or they would tell me I had to pay something that day, etc. I would then hang up get customer service and 3 way just to get them to give me a few days. Finally I got a CS person that said, when you get that call just call 611 and set up automated payment arrangement, you can do it for up to 14 days and then you will get text confirmation....needless to say I no longer answer their calls, just set up payment and go on my merry way....but man those people are jerks, and I have complained several times! You would think being with the same service for 12 years you would be treated with a little courtesy and respect!

I'm glad I read these..
I have never had Verizon, only AT&T, so when I started reading I thought 'wrong number'.
Now I kinda wish I had answered.. to hear their little speech.
We have Straight Talk now, and pay a year in advance.
Geez. I hate that they opened up cell phones to spammer/scammers.

I received calls 2x today from number 323-404-9261. No voicemail was left, however, as soon as the call was gone, I received a text from Verizon Wireless advising to make a payment within 24 hrs. I did not answer due to all the phone scams occurring these days.

I agree. 323-404-9261 is legitimate. It called left no message. Then got a text to remind me to pay my bill. Received a confirmed text. Then the number called again I'm sure to say they received pymt. Definitely from Verizon. Verizon is made up of many departments; they do not communicate with each other.
