I have been receiving phone calls from a Indian guy named Ray Allen from Hale and Coleman associates stating I need to have my lawyer call him about some criminal charges against me. He told me if I didn't call back I'd be arrested Jan. 2. Well it's my day of arrest and I'm still being called, lol. I eventually answered and informed him that I knew it was a scam and he proceeded to challenge me by asking me how I knew. I simply replied by telling him my neighbor is a criminal detective and when i allowed him to listen to the messages he left he recognized the name, voice, and number from other local reports. He quickly said he'd remove my number from his "LIST". I don't have a neighbor that's a detective, lol. I'm reporting the number to my local authorities because I don't know how much of my information they have.

Print up this forum thread and give it to your HR Dept and/or manager - you should not be getting in trouble at work for being harassed by overseas scammers!  And relax - there is NO lawsuit against you.  Please also do report the caller to the FTC, FBI and your state's Attorney General.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Please do report the caller to the FTC, FBI and your state's Attorney General.  Since your caller has your girlfriend's SSN, she should contact her financial institution(s) and also at least one of the three credit agencies - Experian, Equifax, TransUnion - and ask them to put fraud alerts on all her accounts.  She doesn't have to worry about being arrested - your caller is a scammer, so no one is going to show up.  If the scammer calls back, just let the calls go to voicemail.

Debt is civil, not criminal, so no one is going to be arrested and jailed.  You're being called by scammers.  They spoof the numbers to make it look like they're calling from the county courthouse or from law enforcement.  Also, law enforcement is not in the business of debt collection, so they're NOT going to be calling you asking you to make payment arrangements.

Please DO report your callers to the FTC, FBI, Dept of Justice and your state's Attorney General.  And also please do let your local police department know that these scammers are posing as law enforcement.  Since he has personal information (maybe including partial or complete SSN) you should alert your financial institution and at least one of the three credit agencies - Experian, Equifax, TransUnion - and ask for fraud alerts to be placed on all your accounts.

If the scammers call back, please do tell them you know they're scammers, you're not going to be paying them anything, and they've been reported to the appropriate authorities.  Let their calls go to voicemail from now on - you already know they're fraudsters, so there's no point in talking to them..

Take a deep breath, its a scam.  Scary as h*ll, but a scam.  This is a fraudulent debt collector.  They are using software to "spoof" the number 911.  They someone came across stolen financial information and are using it to try to steal money off of you.  Debt is a civil matter, not a criminal mater.  You won't be arrested for it.  Also, no one ever calls to tell you you will be arrested ---- trust me, I know a few things about law enforcement;)

They just want to intimidate people and confuse them so they panic and give them money.  To put you mind at easy, please call the non-emergency number of your local police department or Sheriff's office.  They get dozens of complaints a week about this type of scam.

I had the same foreign guy call me. It was hilarious. He also said the name of the law firm. Since I'm already aware of this scam, I told him that he could call my attorney and gave him the information of one of my attorney friends. I asked them for their physical address and he stated that he could not provide that information to me because I will be going to jail.
The last time they called was a hoot! I acted as if I were being handcuffed and arrested and told him that I should have listened to him. The guy was speechless and never called back! lol

My husband received a call from them today as well, asking if he had legal counsel, saying he was reported to Department of Transportation, saying they had an arrest warrant for unpaid payday loan, and receiving money falsely.  When he asked who they were, they replied US Cash Lending, and that they would be sending paperwork in the mail.  I told him it was a scam and hang up.

I received a call on my cell phone from 323-473-4849 which said it was a CA number, so I didn't answer.  He left a voicemail saying his name was Jordan Miller.  He then called my place of business and left a message with one of my coworkers telling me it was very important that I return his call.  I did return the call and it was a guy with an Indian accent telling me that I had some criminal charges against me and that I would be served papers tomorrow morning if I didn't let him know who my attorney is.  When I told him that I found it ironic that I applied for a payday loan and now I'm getting weird phone calls he became VERY defensive saying "fine, wait until the morning when you get served"   hmmmmmmm
