Regarding Patricia P.  When ever you (anyone) call an 8xx or 9xx # even if your number is restricted, the party you r calling will get your number.  Why, because those numbers are basically collect calls and they are furnished with all the numbers that they are paying for as part of their bill.  The same as if you received a collect call the number it came from would show up on your bill.

So even when the temptation is there to call these numbers - -D O N ' T

Received a call from 323-559-7283 on my cell phone - great, now telemarketers and scammers have my cell number.  Voicemail left said regarding refinancing mortgage under the Obama stimulus program.  If interested in refinancing call 877-314-1336.  I have learned from past experience that getting frustrated or trying to do anything about it is useless when it comes to a company who are not legitimate and likely out of the country like this.  It is best to just not answer the phone and never select options as this identifies that the number that the dialer is caller is a legitimate number and you will stay on the dialer.  Eventually in time, your number will be removed from the dialer after so many unsuccessful attempts.  I did call this 877 toll free number and blocked my number.  I explained to the rep Patrick that I am on the do not call list and wanted to know what company this is and why are you calling me.  He said they are a Home Owner Advocacy Group that provides information to those who are having trouble paying their mortgage and the do not call list does not apply because they are not selling anything.  He said he would remove my number from their list immediately as I told him I don't own a home or have a mortgage   - he said he would remove my number right now and asked me to hold.  I then said don't you need my number, he said I have it, it came up on my caller ID - so another "great" I used *67 to block my number and apparently they have a remove block feature on their phone systems.. anyway, he claimed to have removed my number from his calling list.  We will see.  I used to think having a cell number and no land line would eliminate ever having to deal with telemarketers or surveys again - now everyone seems to have cell number phone lists too.  How annoying.  Why don't businesses get that if you want something or need something, we as a consumer, will research and find what we want ourselves.  Does telemarketing still work that well that it appears to just keep getting worse?

That is all true.  There is fraud with these people.
However, I have been called several times as well and have been following these threads.  I paid off my mortgage over 10 years ago!

So add cold calling to the list of all the other stuff that has been said.  These are not just highly targeted calls where some bank or mortgage holder gives them your number.

Yeah, same thing happened to me with Chase and GMAC.  The mortgage servicers won't let HUD/HOPE line record their phone conversations.  Here's what you do:  record it yourself.  Document it and date it.  Then, contact your Attorney General, Senator, Congressman, etc.  And, best of all, take your records down to your local FBI office.  Yes, the Federal Bureau of Investigations.  They're very interested in all of the phone recordings that I've made where I get hung-up on, sent to India, given wrong telephone numbers that don't work, etc.  Yes, call the FBI, because I was told that they are investigating all of this.  It is MORTGAGE FRAUD and breaks a million other consumer protections.  The Big Banks don't realize that they are really going to feel this dishonesty now.

btw.... Bank of America's representative would NOT speak to us as long as the HUD/HOPE representative was on the line BECAUSE HUD/HOPE RECORDS THE CONVERSATION.  The SECOND they hung up, Bank of America disconnected the call.  When we call back again, the HUD/HOPE rep refused to disengage and we were transferred to another department, going through everything all over again.  AGAIN, BofA representative insisted HUD/HOPE get off call.  As soon as they did, the BofA rep said we had the wrong department and AGAIN disconnected the call!!  (several hours wasted over 2 days!!)
Bank of America SHOULD go down in flames.  Too bad it will cost thousands of innocents their jobs.  But then, thousands of innocents have lost their hard earned savings and investments thanks to Bank of America and others like them.

Bank of America ABSOLUTELY is who is providing our information as I received a call from this number a few minutes ago with a automated message to call another number that I was unable to write down as I was not in a situation to do so.
I say it's Bank of America, because we are notified by the credit bureaus whenever anyone checks our credit.  Bank of America checked our credit for some unknown reason a couple of weeks ago and now we get this call.
We were harassed by hundreds of groups a few months ago within 24 hours of our having contacted Bank of America through a representative of HUD/HOPE to gain assistance in actually TALKING WITH A LIVING HUMAN BEING at Bank of America to see about lowering our interest rate.
Since President Obama recently renegotiated a deal with the banks, we are being solicited, illegally btw, by attorneys from all over the USA to join their class action suit against BofA.  But, these places all want substantial upfront charges ($5,000 for retainer)!
These banks need to come down.  I've given BofA every chance to meet our request.
It should be ILLEGAL for banks to sell personal information!!!

I received a call on my home phone, answered because caller id said it was  a cell phone, and I have family from that area code. Recorded message "are you having a problem with your mortgage, press one" I hung up. I see some think Bank of America may have something to do with this, I do not have any kind of accounts with Bank of America. If they call again, I am going to block their number.

Scam!  But here is the real danger.  There are plenty of folks these days who are indeed in trouble with their payments because of the economy, job loss etc.  When they fall for the scam the real danger is that they aren't pursuing the real things they can do to help themselves and possibly hold on to their homes.  They don't take the proper actions because they think they are "doing something about it" by working with the scammers.

This call is to inform you of the currency demos plan passed by President Obama. As of March 2009. This plan is currently available to homeowners in your senses track that may be experiencing hardship with their mortgage. In order to see if you qualify, please press 1 to speak to a representative Once again, in order to see if you qualify For the currency demos plan, please press 1 to speak to a Representative.

Funny thing is that I don't have a mortgage.  Probably a phishing scam more than a legit business.

323 is a California Area Code.  But they won't tell you in any case.  They are crooks.   Usually an absolute do-nothing-scam is easy to prosecute, so this is most likely a "do-little" scam.  But in either case they are in violation of National Do Not Call laws and calling from the US.
And, of course as others have pointed out a total Rip-Off.  Usually scams aren't worried about Do Not Call.  They just want to rip off a couple of thousand people then they go away and start a new scam.

Next time they call you, ask why they are calling from Canada if they are calling for U.S. government mortgage relief. 323 is a Canadian prefix and the AT&T has told me there is nothing they can do to track or report issues on Canadian numbers. They also told me numbers with this prefix are widespread scams.

I received a 323 call a couple of years ago and they tried to get me to give them my personal info saying they were from "Visa/Mastercard" and were going to help me with debt relief. However they could not/would not identify which bank they were calling from; just "Visa/Mastercard" They were so stupid it cracked me up.

These people are total scam artists. They are just trolling for suckers to give them personal info for identity scams. They didn't get your info from BofA or any other reputable source.
