Same deal, called and told me how much danger my computer was in... sending urgent warning calls to Microsoft and they seriously needed access to my computer immediately.

Would avoid the call!!!

I received a phone call from someone with a horrible accent telling me my computer was generating error messages and he wanted me to turn on my computer so he could access it and send me the information.  The number he was calling from was 607-7249716.  I declined to talk to him.  Later I received a second call from the same person.  These two calls took place between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. today MST, 10/01/13.  When I asked him what number he was calling from he told me it was 323-647-4107, however the number on my telephone ID said he was calling from 630-694-1356.  In checking all three number by calling them, each number was "no longer in service."  Not sure what the scan is, but I would suggest that you not give them access to your computer.  His last comment was that he was going to block my IP address so I could never use the internet again.

They wanted your computer on so that they could Hack It. This way they can see what websites you go to & they will Hack your passwords as well.  Its a good thing that your computer was off.

And you're absolutely correct - Microsoft does NOT call people unless that person has initiated a help ticket via phone or online.  Microsoft also does NOT contract its services out to other companies.

I just got the same call from the non-existant Microsoft Care Department...  the number... !-253-802-0309... from Dan or Dave (lol).  There was the usual call centre back ground noise.  I told him "This is a scam, and I'm not interested." and hung up on him.

Same info as all other posts; my mom got a call from a man saying he was from  "Windows", and wanted her to turn on her computer and log in right away. Of course she did not do this; everyone should know this is a SCAM. Luckily I have warned my mom constantly of these scam calls, and so she was ready when they called. I do believe they are looking for senior citizens, etc, that may not necessarily know what is going on, and unfortunately, may give access unknowingly. I would say to never give remote access to your computer in this type of situation. There are times when it may be warranted, but this would normally only be when you have initiated the call, etc. And lastly, we all know that Microsoft is not going to call us personally.

One more thing I remembered.. They.. "The Bad Guys".. They found me on Facebook, I believe, since I had been almost exclusively on Facebook when they called me.. How they got my phone Number, I don't know, I don't list it generally, but it's not a secret. I hope no one else gets scammed.

Hi, the same thing happened to me. I got a call from 323 647-4107 that is the number they gave me anyway.. they said they were from Microsoft... They said there were a lot of errors, and they needed to fix my computer. I did not believe it. I was like "How do I know you are who you say you are?" The guy had an accent from India. It was so thick I could barely understand him. I kept asking to talk to his supervisor. Eventually he handed the phone to another man with an Indian accent. He said his name was Steve Royston and that he was calling from California. He said he could prove the call was real. He said to press windows button and R.. this alone, by the way, does not give access to your computer, as someone above was mistaken, sorry to point this out.. anyway.. this brings up "Run" and he asked me to type in "cmd" which is my C drive Windows System 32 exe. And then he asked me to type Admin.. or something like that.. and it showed me a list of files.. on the bottom, a few lines up, was a number... and the freaky part is he knew that number.. he told me it was the make and model number for my computer, and that he would not know that if he was not really from Microsoft.. but I still did not believe him... He asked me to type "eventvwr" into "Run" so I did..and it brought up "Event Viewer" and click on Administrative Events.. and indeed there were a lot of errors and warnings listed there. He told me that hackers from China were on my computer, lots of them, and that our call was being recorded and monitored by the United States Government, so that I could trust them, and that if I did not let them help me right away, my computer was going to shut down. I still did not believe them. I chuckled and said I did not trust the United States Government. He directed me to a web sight.. http://www.ammyy.com/en/ ... This, I knew would give them access to my computer.. DO NOT PUSH THE GREEN BUTTON.. so at that point I said I had to talk to my friend who knows more about computers then I do, and I would call him back.. he did not want me to get off the phone, kept stalling me, even begged saying "This is my only income, my bread and butter.." and Threatening.. "We, Microsoft, will not be held responsible when your computer crashes because of all the hackers.." Over all it was a great performance.. I was almost suckered in, but I know better then to give remote access to my computer. This is the best as I can recall the conversation.. I know I probably left something out.. I hope this helps others to NOT get scammed by these people who were obviously not Microsoft. Microsoft should do something about this before more people get scammed.

I just rec'd a call from this phone number stating they are from "Windows Tech Dept"....lady who called had an accent that was very difficult to understand and she was very hesitant to give me the phone number, her name and how it is they 'received a notice from your computer that Windows is having an issue'.

I kept asking 'what is the issue' and she repeatedly asked me to start my computer and log-in.  I asked for her phone number (in case we got disconnected) and from which state was she calling.  She gave the number listed above & said she was calling from New York.  My caller ID said the call was from 1-856-901-12632 (not even a call from USA)

I decided to stall and do a search on the phone number she gave me. The area code is one out of CA not NY and after asking for her name several times and having her spell it out she said her name is Christine Williams. I ended the call without accessing my computer for her.

My bet is the other peoples' posts about this number are accurate.

I hope you learned something,
Find a computer savy friend and runn anti virus, spyware checker, and whatever else a QUALIFIED tech suggests.

If you allowed remote access, (obviously you did) then they may have put key logger, zombie software,
or any number of things on there. ALL of which are designed not to show you any signs of their presence.

If you do not have a friend that can help, then spend the 60 bucks and take it to a professional, tell them what you did, and let them scan it.

DO NOT log onto ANY financial or password sites (from any computer on that network until you do this.

I'm telling you, you are at risk, Do not do this again.

I just got a call from a foreign sounding person with background noises of a call room. He said he was from Microsoft and that they were getting warning and error signs from my computer and it needed to be fixed. He had me click the Windows button and R on my keyboard to gain access to fix this. I was wary and asked to speak to his supervisor. He said this is a legitimate and urgent problem that needed to be fixed immediately. He then said my Norton 360 had expired (I was pretty sure it hadn't) and he would install a free antivirus program that was better than Norton's. He was now into my programs and said he wanted to show me where the errors were, and indeed there were error warnings which popped up. But then he started to go into and click on my photos and I immediately said I had to go, and he insisted that I not touch my computer until I could call him back. Major bells going off. I immediately turned my computer off and got three successive phone calls which I did not pick up. Luckily everything seemed to work fine when I turned it back on but that was a very scary experience. He said his name was Danial Christian and to call him back at 1-323-647-4107. Was I scammed?

Received phone call at 11:30 PM on a Friday night claiming to be the Microsoft
Care Center claiming that my PC has been sending error reports.  How unlikely is that, that actual Microsoft rep would call at that hour and that they would even know my name?  Don't think I've ever had contact with Microsoft.  Ended phone call without following they're instructions.

It's a scam. Do NOT respond to it! They want access to your computer, your personal information and your financial information. They will corrupt your computer, then offer to fix it..for a fee. They will leave your computer corrupted, leaving it open to be remote viewed.
Do not respond to any calls or e-mails from entities claiming they need access to your computer. Do not reset passwords from anywhere but the site directly. Never from a link.
Be Safe. Be Aware.

This number called a "Microsoft Care Department" and wanted us to turn on our computer. There is not a "Microsoft Care Department" that makes home calls.
