I think this is a real number and not one of those fake robocall numbers with the fake caller ID number. It actually lets you call back. Everyone keep calling them and harassing them. Let's turn the tables on these pricks. Don't let these calls go. I never do. I get even.

Just got a text from this number - soliciting debt consolidation...

I also received a text from this number on 10/14/2009 and decided not to delete it, just incase more came in the future. Sure enough just yesterday i received another text, but from a different number this time.
1-310-562-9512, I hope this doesn't keep happening!

I also received this, and I tried to reply to txt stop and it did not go through. This is the second time I received a txt about mortgages, and I called Verizon and they had to block it. Then a couple of days later another txt from another number. It's becoming like the junk email. Not funny. If the cell phone carriers do not find a way to block it nobody will pay for txt messaging. I registered with teh donotcall.gov and it did not block them. It's NASTY!

Thanks for the FCC link, I just submitted my complaint.
| FCC 2009-10-06 17:12:43 Telemarketer |
It is illegal for spammers to send text messages to cell/mobile/wireless phones regardless of whether the number is on the do-not-call registry. To help stop this spammer, please file a complaint with the FCC here, as I did:
http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm
Choose "Wireless Telephone" on the first (Complaint Type) screen, then on the second (Complaint Category) screen, choose "Telemarketing calls (including Do-Not-Call), prerecorded messages and unsolicited commercial emails received on a wireless phone". On the third (Filing Method) screen, click "ONLINE FORM" (in the yellow box) and fill in the details related to your text message.

Do not call it back! Sometimes by simply calling you are giving them approval to add monthly charges to your cell phone bill. Of course, they could already be charging your cell phone - this happened to my husband. He signed up on some alleged job searching site, and instead of finding a job he was sacked with a $19.95 monthly charge on our cell bill. I luckily discovered it right away; but I have talked to others who did not notice for a few MONTHS that the same type of thing had happened to them, so the fees just racked up until they figured it out.
Here is what to do.
Number one, text "STOP" in a reply to them. Nothing else; just "STOP."
Number two, write down the number and call your service provider. If I'm reading the last two posts right, the calls appear to be AT&T Wireless calling - THIS IS NOT TRUE. The texter/caller is spoofing the CID to make it appear that way, but I guarantee you it IS a third-party company that has NO affiliation with AT&T Wireless. I'm betting that AT&T is your wireless provider, right? I know this because that is how the charges appeared on OUR cell phone bill, as an alleged charge from AT&T when it actually was not, but we did not discover that until we called AT&T to complain.
Number three, go online to your wireless provider and view your current months' charges or most recent bill. If that charge is on there then you need to have the wireless provider remove it and credit you back.
Number four, when you do call AT&T (or whomever provides your wireless service) to alert them to the possible fraudulent charges, you may want to consider asking them to put a "purchase blocker" on your phone. This will prevent the fraudulent company from simply re-adding the charges; but it will also prevent you from downloading games, ringtones, etc. - so when I do this, I only have it on for a week or so, just long enough for the fraudulent company to give up. LOL

Best thing to do if one these telemarketers gets you on the phone is to play along as long as you can. Make them think you're interested and dumb enough to give your credit card number to their illegal business which you aren't allowed to contact. Just waste their time like they love to waste everyone elses time and money. Get even. They deserve it.

Andrew, I'm with you ...I don't know how we'd shut these guys down. I'm afraid if I don't respond they will keep texting...and if I do respond it will say you can't call me or text me...but hey your friends with other numbers can...so oh well don't know what to do!
| andrew 2009-10-05 14:14:03 Unknown |
Same thing happened to me just now; my phone is also on the "do-not-call" list, and I don't have a mortgage either. They asked if they could call in their text, but i'm hesitant to respond even with a "no" because that would tip them off that i exist.
How do we shut these guys down?

Texted my 'do not call' cell phone at 11:28pm last night about my mortgage that I don't have. I rent.
