I began following complaint sites about bogus calls in 2007. What is astonishing is the myriad ways in which these creeps morph and mutate in order to stay on line with spoofed numbers and who knows what else.

Sometimes I think that these bogus calls, just by their sheer presence, could end up "putting the kabosh" on certain types of land line and wireless comunications.

YOU only can control those calls. Check your Caller ID. If you see a name and/or number (or no number at all) that you do not recognize, do not pick up the call. If you should pick up the call, hang up immediately. If you do listen to the recorded message, and it tells you to push a particular number, don't push anything. Hang up.

There have been suggestions over the last several months that if you pick up the call, and it turns out to be bogus, hit the # key repeatedly. This is supposed to jam the caller's system, but I have no documented proof of this. I screen my calls with Caller ID before I pick them up,
