These folks call me periodically and threaten to have me arrested, sued, wages garnished..blah blah blah. It's not legit. They can't do anything to you, you're protected by this bad boy:


Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (15 U.S.C. §§ 1692-1692o, as amended)
Under this Act (Title VIII of the Consumer Credit Protection Act), third-party debt collectors are prohibited from employing deceptive or abusive conduct in the collection of consumer debts incurred for personal, family, or household purposes. Such collectors may not, for example, contact debtors at odd hours, subject them to repeated telephone calls, threaten legal action that is not actually contemplated, or reveal to other persons the existence of debts.

So..what practices are off limits for debt collectors?

Harassment. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:

   use threats of violence or harm;
   publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies);
   use obscene or profane language; or
   repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone.

False statements. Debt collectors may not lie when they are trying to collect a debt. For example, they may not:

   falsely claim that they are attorneys or government representatives;
   falsely claim that you have committed a crime;
   falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit reporting company;
   misrepresent the amount you owe;
   indicate that papers they send you are legal forms if they aren?t; or
   indicate that papers they send to you aren?t legal forms if they are.

Debt collectors also are prohibited from saying that:

   you will be arrested if you don?t pay your debt;
   they?ll seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages unless they are permitted by law to take the action and intend to do so; or
   legal action will be taken against you, if doing so would be illegal or if they don?t intend to take the action.

Debt collectors may not:

   give false credit information about you to anyone, including a credit reporting company;
   send you anything that looks like an official document from a court or government agency if it isn?t; or
   use a false company name.

Unfair practices. Debt collectors may not engage in unfair practices when they try to collect a debt. For example, they may not:

   try to collect any interest, fee, or other charge on top of the amount you owe unless the contract that created your debt ? or your state law ? allows the charge;
   deposit a post-dated check early;
   take or threaten to take your property unless it can be done legally; or
   contact you by postcard

This number called me saying that I received a unsecured loan, which i never did. They also threatened me by saying I would be held in government custody for 40 days until trial. They've also stated that legal fees would be over 8000 dollars, not counting what I supposedly owe.

THIS NUMBER 334-316-2525 KEEPS CALLING MY PHONE SAYING I OWE ON A PAY DAY LOAN THAT I NEVER RECEIVED OR INQUIRED ABOUT///SAYS THEY HAVE BEEN TRYING TO REACH ME VIA E-MAIL AND THAT THEY ARE COMING TO MY WORK TO PUT ME UNDER ARREST HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN AND HOW DO THEY HAVE MY SSN

These people have called and harassed me several times and like many of you refuse to give me any information and I threatened them will a law suit if they did not stop bother me and im about to turn in a report with the BBB..the one that always calls me is using the name Chris Brown, I have no clue how they got my information but im tired of dealing with these people.

got call at work at home tell me there going to come to my work and arrest me he said his name was scott miller attorney  said I had pay day loa n he called me 4 times awork and 4 times on cell

They also said the people I owed money to was trying to contact me through email.

I got one today from a law office saying they was contacting me over a pay day loan that happen in 2012. They said they would arrest me if  I did not pay this and it would be a lot more then.

my old home phone gota call like that i trid to call it back and the number is busy My soon to be ex was freaked out but have you gotten anymore calls or mail in regards to this supposed debt.

This number called me saying that i recieved a unsecured loan...which i never did....they threatened me by saying that i would be held in government custody till i can prove i never recieved the loan....they also said that the legal fees would be over 5000 dollars and thats not counting what they say i supposedly owe...i asked them what company they were from and they stated,Anderson law associates....i called the actual law firm and they stated to me that someone is using there firm name and that they reported it to the FBI....

These individuals have called me mutiple times and told me I am going to jail I do not send them 1400.00 NOW from a payday loan that had turned into a "lawsuit". I immediately ask the company name, and said I would call to verify the money owed and they said I couldn't because it had been turned over to them and they no longer had the file. They kept saying I was going to jail in 48 hours if I didn't pay. I called my local police department and it turns out another individual received the same call. I called them back just to let them know that I knew it was fake, I called the police department and the guy hung up. Hasn't called back since. After doing research no debt collector can threaten you with jail time. Don't give your information out to these people.

i asked them question that they WOULD DEFINITELY know if this were legit & they could not answer...

CALLED ME AND READ MY SSN. SAID AMERICAN FUNDING HAD A LAW SUIT ON ME AND THEY WOULD REPRESENT ME. CALLED MY CELL NUMBER. DON'T KNOW HOW THE GOT MY SSN.
TOLD THEM NOT TO CALL ME ANYMORE. I AM NERVOUS HOW THEY GOT THIS INFO.

these people continue to harrass me. they have said that I would be arrested. there is a lawsuit being filed against me. they ask for the last 4 digits of my social and refuse ti say o they are representing
