The call  from 344-781-7048 first came about 45 minutes after I filled out an online application at Single Mothers Help.Org which later transferred my information to Scholarships4moms. I've never received any strange calls from unknown numbers prior to this. I made an attempt to return the call but wasn't connected in fact there was no sound over the phone line even after 3 attempts.

This number called and when I answered I didn't get a reply so I hung up. I don't know I just hope they don't call everyday. My brother said someone hacked his computher the other day and got my phone # from his computer. So this could be something to do with that.

Just an FYI: you can obtain any phone# in any state even if you live in singapore, canada, or spain.  It doesn't matter.  Many of these loan companies are straight-up organized crime, they use dialer systems to dial hundred's of numbers and the calls that get picked up shoot through to a person to try and convince you to give up your account info, wether it's to approve you for a loan, some of these scams make you send them a down payment on a large loan to prove to a "private lender" that you are serious about making payments on the loan and once that down payment is wired via Western Union or Money Gram, it will be gone forever and of course there will be no loan.  All the FBI will do is trace the phone # to a service provider who is getting paid under a false name, so the faux company is pretty untraceable, they will have legitimate looking websites and then you look up the address and sometimes they lead right to a U.S. Court, or government property just to slap you in the face once again.  Just an FYI, the Better Business Bureau and Attorney Generals in every state have received thousands of complaints about these companies, they try to prosecute the one's that do operate w/in the U.S. but most of them are foreign criminals.  I have practiced in credit/collections law for about 13 years, my advice to all is, do not answer the calls, if it's important they will leave you a message, if you receive an offer that is too good to be true, 99% chance it is, and last DON'T EVER GIVE OUT YOUR PERSONAL INFO TO SOMEONE WHO RANDOMLY CALLS YOU OR IS NOT FROM A WELL RECOGNIZED AND ACCREDITED BUSINESS.

Received this call from 344-781-7048 saying they had approved a  transaction of mine and that they needed to CONFIRM info I had aleady submitted. Definitely sounded legit but why would I "polly parrot back to him" the info he already had? Anyway, I did acknowledge my name (liked a fool) and some other quite mundane info (that I know is already all over the net). And Yes -- I know already what kind of idiot this makes me. Anyway, He TRIED (unsuccessfully I might add  to get my SS#). Bottom line, these guys are bottom feeders. I broke my own cardinal rule: never acknowledge to anyone any info --not even your name-- unless you are  uncertain who ou are speaking with. Definitely not over the phone-EVER. Still he had so much info about me that I am calling my bank to alert them of a fradulent attempt to get my banking and othe personal info.

I receive a call from them just minutes after putting in payday loan application online. I could not understand what this person name Alex was saying because his english was so bad. He sounded like Indian or calling from the country India. He said I was approved for up to 1500.00 and wanted my bank account info. I told him "you should have that information when I apply online." He kept going on saying that the money would be in my account as soon as 1 hour. I ask what is the company's name and customer service number. He refuse to give it me and says I need to give him my information first before he could do that. I then got angry and he hung up on me. Also I now know that it was so stupid of me to apply for a payday loan and give out all my information because I needed fast cash. So for those of you do not ever do what I did. I don't know what to do now and am so scared because all my personal infomation is out there somewhere.

I worked for A major land line home phone company for 14 years. I can tell you that this type of fraud should be reported to your attorney general and the FCC. You local company or your cell phone company can give you the number. Its also in the phone book. The FCC and PUC are the watch dogs for this type of telephone behavior. FCC is the federal communications commission and the PUC is the public Utility Commission. Your phone company should want to talk to you first and report up there chain of command if you tell you will be filling a PUC complaint about the number and the fact that the number can not be stopped. On a personal note I once had a number doing the same type of thing. I answered saying I was the police and asked them if they knew the people at the number they had dialed. When they stammered for words I said the FBI and CIA are tapping the line to get the UN involved. To say the least they stopped calling me. Look if they are scamming us we can say anything to them...... have fun with it.

Have received multiple calls today - I answered only once and the call was disconnected.  I have also received 8 or 9 text messages (all seem to be different sources) offering me money - a couple even referred to me a "Ronald"...from what I've read above, I assume these are connected.

Actually the PAYDAY LOAN company will be HELD RESPONSIBLE for approving the loan - not the borrower.

The PAYDAY loan company KNEW they could not operate in that state and by granting the loan - BROKE the law!

This article is about how the WVA attorney general is going after Payday loan companies who loaned money to WVA residents in VIOLATION OF THE LAW!

West Virginia Sues Eight Payday Lenders
Firms charged with using Internet to circumvent state law
August 24, 2010

West Virginia is one of a handful of states that have banned payday loans. So when lenders use the Internet to do business with residents of that state, the state's attorney general goes to court.
West Virginia Attorney Darrell McGraw has filed suit, asking the Court to order the eight companies, which have refused to cooperate with his investigation, to surrender the records of their West Virginia-based accounts and to halt lending activities in the state.
Payday loans are high-interest loans or cash advances with interest rates that reach as high as 600-to-800 percent APR. The loans, typically made for 14 days, are secured by a post-dated check or an agreement authorizing electronic debits from the consumer's checking account.
"When a company sets foot in West Virginia, whether in person or over the Internet, my office has a duty to ensure the enterprise complies with state law," McGraw said. "Any company that makes payday loans must halt its usurious business and produce records identifying its victims."
The companies and principals sued by Attorney General McGraw's office are:
? Payday Loan Resource Center LLC and Moe Tassoudi of Scottsdale, AZ;
? DirectROI d/b/a Cash West Payday Loans and Mike Brewster of Chandler, AZ;
? First American Credit;
? LoanPointe LLC, Joe E. Strom, Benjamin J. Lonsdale, James C. Endicott and Mark S. Lofgren of Highland, UT;
? Eastbrook LLC d/b/a Ecash and GeteCash of Provo, UT;
? National Title Loans d/b/a National Cash 12 of Elsmere, DE;
? Payday Financial LLC d/b/a www.LakotaCash.com and Martin Webb of Timber Lake, SD;
? Payday Loans-ACH d/b/a www.ACHLoans.com of Emeryville, CA.
End run
McGraw says Payday Loan Resource Center attempts to circumvent state law by charging West Virginia customers a monthly fee to help them obtain Internet payday loans. A suit filed earlier this year by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) charged Ecash and GeteCash with attempting to garnish wages without a court order. Lakota Cash claims to be an Indian tribe and therefore not subject to the laws of any state.
Since McGraw began investigating the industry in 2005, his office has reached settlements with 107 Internet payday lenders and their collection agencies, resulting in $2,452,979.87 in refunds and canceled debts for 8044 West Virginians.
"Payday loans are predatory traps for the many West Virginians facing difficult times," McGraw said. "We will continue to ask the courts to intervene whenever companies refuse to cooperate with our efforts to protect West Virginia citizens."

I have also gotten repeated calls from 344-781-7048, twice when my phone was turned off. I answered the third call, and just as everyone says, it was weird music, and then a man with a high voice came on the line speaking what sounded like Arabic. I speak Spanish, Italian, and German, plus I recognize French and Slavic accents when I hear them--his accent was none of those. I simply said, "You have the wrong number" and hung up. Now I am getting unlisted calls--I just won't answer any more of these. If these calls continue, I will call the telephone company.

They continually call my phone at horrible hours, in the middle of the night or early morning.  It is music and the someone picks up who I cant understand.  They say they are calling from ____.com and I have asked to be removed from the call list, that has done no good.  Very frustrating.
