Hi. I'm not stupid. I knew this was a scam when the email address was realtorpostblahblahblah@gmail.com on Craigslist for the Chicago, IL listing. I went ahead and sent the email with the title "R u for real?" because I thought I may have been wrong. Nope. She contacted me asking what city and state I was asking about. Another flag because I figured she should have known since she put the ad in. Oh, she responded with another email needbucardystat@gmail.com "Real rentals" is the name. I Googled the email address and it belongs to a man named Kenneth something who's deceased. I'm pasting what she sent me, same crap just different amounts, address and design of the house, then I'm going to alert Craigslist. Don't think they'll do anything because I contacted them before and the scam was still there. Here it is:

I didn't let her know I busted her I am continuing the conversation with her or whoever it is in hopes that I can show all this to the police and maybe set them, if not that's ok, I really hope no one out there really sends money to anyone to rent a home without meeting them first and seeing the home first I will try to post all that we have talked about when I get time, how I figured this out was reverse looking up the phone number, checking the address out, and the names, the name she used with me is that of a woman who lives close to the listed address

I have been leading her on for days just to see how far she would go with it until I could actually bust herin a lie,, it has been reported to the police,, the home owners, and tomorrow I am going to the Lisa Arce who lives near here to let her know of the scam and the person using her name

THis is a scam. The letter is generated by the same person or a group of people . They used the same letter format. They will use diffirent names. If they get the confirmation number from western union from you you are out out of luck. You might as well hit  your head on the wall

This number is associated with a scam on craigslist. The scammer is attempting to rent a home but they are not in the area to show it to you. In this case the house for rent was in South Carolina but the scammer is supposedly in NY and preparing to move to England.

I saw an exact post for a home in my town and received the exact email. Different name was used though. The name she is using is the actual home owner which I found after looking up at the town assessors office. Pretty sick.

Hope you put up your story in the newspaper.   There ought to be a federal law, since these people are working across state  lines.  Should be a serious misdemeanor or a felony, if you ask me.  That Craig's List is becoming a tool for white collar criminals.

This terrible person just scammed us out of $1600.  We found this page and now we're sick.  My wife is severly disabled & medically fragile and we were desperate to find accessible housing here in Albuquerque, NM.  She had us wire the money to her "sister" in Lubbock TX.  Claimed her name was Shirley Barr, wife of Andrew Barr, and her sister listed as Sunny Adair.  Our home is being foreclosed, and we were so happy to be able to find a place we could afford, that would be wheelchair accessible, I guess we both just fell for it.  My wife, 55, has been in a wheelchair since she was 16, bore & raised 3 kids, worked her way through college, and was a columnist for the Albuquerque Tribune for 7 years, writing on issues that affect the elderly & disabled and has received numerous advocacy awards. She has always given her time and energy to help those who couldn't help themselves, until her body gave out, and she was forced to retire.  I really hope they catch this despicable thief.

Thank you for posting this. It has been a little frustrating that they do this sort of thing. I  am the RE agent for my lease property. I would have thought they would have checked something like that out before saying they didn't want to use a Realtor. Thank you to everyone that called or emailed me to let me know. So nice to see so many honest people out there.
