Just spoke with Russell Reed and was told that if I didn't pay the full amount right now the police would be at my place of business in 30 minutes to arrest me and my children would be placed in foster care.  These people are sick!  I know I owe back taxes and have been on a payment plan with the IRS.

Debt Collector
My wife received a call from 347-671-0323 Thankgiving morning.  The caller started by indentifying himself and the saying "I have some important information for you.  Do you have paper and a pen ready?  The Treasury Department has begun an enforcement action against you."  Heavy accent on the caller.  Since when does a government worker call on a legal holiday?  My wife simply said "I don't believe you." and hung up.

David Wimmims 347-671-0323, called and stated he was calling from Dept of Class Action Legal Affairs and asked me to call him right back immediately, regarding my benefits. I had a lot of static on my phone (ongoing cable co issue) and could not fully understand everything he said. He was an adult Asian, sounded like Asian by his accent. This is obviously a scam of some sorts. Let's get these calls stopped!!

I got the same call.  I had an Indian fellow with a very thick accent.  When pushed, he tried to say he was a government employee for the IRS but could not tell me his pay grade.  He was begging me to call David Williams, he must be on commission for his scam artist....

I have received several messages over the last few days from this number. The caller is a female who identifies herself as Jennifer Rodriguez, although she speaks with a very thick Indian accent. She claims to be calling from the "Department of Legal Affairs," about a very important matter, and pending legal action. There is quite a bit that I am unable to understand due to her accent, however at the end of the call she says if I am unable to call I should have my legal counsel call because there is about to be a "legal mess" for me. I have no idea who this person is, or why she is calling. When I called the number, it rang once and then was disconnected.

Unbelievable.

Her name was Patti White when she called me - and that was the only part of her conversation I understood - very thick Indian or Middle Eastern accent - threatening that if I didn't call her back, something terrible would happen. Why doesn't the FCC get involved with these types of harassing phone calls?

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

Received a message on my home phone this morning.  Woman with Indian accent stating that she was Jennifer Rodriguez with the Department of Legal Affairs, and that I should call regarding a pending serious matter.  I know that the IRS does not call you, they initiate contact via letter.  I'm not even going to waste my time calling back.

If you have the pending thing, you can ask or request though the letter.  I have been received the same phone call 3-5-time  day and night.  Some time was female caller said she was with Treasury Legal Affairs Department about tax enforcement action, and told me to call this number back and ask for David Williams. I called David Williams this morning at 9:45 AM of 11/22/2013.  As soon as I ask him many questions regard to US government's employee, and if possible this is a scam, and if possible that his name could be Smith or others.  I said the "F" to me.  I've reported to the IRS in Boston.  She said that would ry to call that number and report to the department.  It's definitely a SCAM.   I'll call FBI.

I just got a call for my husband, they left a message for him on my cell with the same info as above.  I called the number back on my office phone and it rang once and disconnected.  We do have a few pending things so I was worried for a minute, but in the end its a scam I'm sure.
