Here's another number and name to add to the scam list.  Heather Gray calling from (202)241-8339.  Horrible way to start my day.  My account advised me that the IRS never contacts someone by phone first or by coming to their homes.  There will always be certified mail about any issue sent first.  Spread that fact so people won't fall for this scam.

I live in S. California and received a call, purportedly from the IRS in Wash. D.C.  The heavily-accented man said I must call 1 800 280-7395 and speak to Damon Marshall.  I did.  A person by that name answered and said there was a problem.  I asked what is the problem?

He then started to refer to lawyers, plaintiffs, etc - so I asked again?  What is the problem.  He said the IRS had been investigating my wife's taxes.  I said we file jointly, have not received any notices, we paid our taxes before the deadline, so what's the problem.

He said just a moment - then hung up.  I tried to call back - but there could not.  It's obvious that it was a scam, but they may have realized I wasn't falling for it so they gave up.  I notice that they were active a year ago.  I wonder how long they've been playing this game.

Me too, got a phone call 1 347 722 6328 from a Damon Marshal claiming to be from the IRS investigative dep't that I have problems with my income taxes. First of all, IRS won't call you and the world we live in now, we have a lot of low piece of xxxx
that will try anything to scam you with your hard earned money. Called them back to give my piece of advice "What comes around goes around and even worse!"

Just now, I got a call from someone claiming to be an assistant of Damon Marshall and mentioned, that my 2013 returns have a problem and that I need to immediately call Damon Marshall at 607-323-3064. Surprisingly, they called me on a number that I have never mentioned in my tax returns, as it was my work number. That made my realize, this could be a scam. When I googled Damon Marshall, this site is the first hit I got and confirmed my suspicion. Thanks a lot to everyone on this site for sharing their feedback.

I have seen that IRS does not call directly..They always send letters and provide time for submitting the information. If you ever get a call even with a different name, don't fall for it. Ask them to send a letter and provide time. If they are not willing to do that, they are not IRS.

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver?s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

?This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,? says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. ?If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don?t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn?t the IRS calling.? Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim?s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it?s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver?s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here?s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue ? if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don?t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you?ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you?ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their ?FTC Complaint Assistant? at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

More information on how to report phishing scams involving the IRS is available on the genuine IRS website, IRS.gov.

This is a totally bogus call. If it was the IRS, they would start giving you information. Turn the tables on this guy and start grilling him. What's his name? What's the name of his company? How come he can't give you additional information on what he is calling about? Who is Damon Marshall? Etc. etc. The 347 is a NY area code, but he's claiming that Damon Marshall is in California. Keep the guy on the line and make him sweat if you have the chance.

Hi All, My wife got a call from these scammers. I knew from get go this was scam because IRS does not call. Plus these guys have a South Indian Accent. I called the number 347-559-7963 and spoke with Damon Marshall who was pretending to be an IRS agent. BTW the joke was on them since they were answering my call on federal holiday (thanks giving day). So I spoke to him in English and asked him where he was from he immediately knew he was caught he started cursing me in HINDI and I cursed him back. So this Damon Marshall hung up and ran away. I called IRS investigation agency and got a call back from a field agent. This case is worked on. Please do not fall for this scam. These guys are using VOIP number and calling from India possibly.

Received a call from someone with such a heavy accent I told him he needs to find a job where he does not have to talk to people because I can not understand one word he is saying and hung up the phone.  He called me back 4 times which I ignored and let go to voicemail.  Later that morning he called and spoke to my wife who fell hook line and sinker to believe he was the IRS and gave me the phone.  He gave me a number to call and that I need to speak to Damon Marshall about last years tax return and the money we owe.  I knew this was a scam as I always file on time and have no issues with the IRS.  I called back and asked for Damon Marshall and told them I will not give him any information as I do not know who he is or if he is the IRS.  Today is Saturday, and the IRS does not work on weekends lol.  He told me that I can just hang up if I will not give him info which I did and typed the phone number into google and came across all these blogs about this scam.

I too was called by 'Damon Marshall' from the Investigative Bureau of the IRS, who stated that an arrest warrent had been issued for my arrest, but that jail time could be avoided if $4900 was sent immediately. I reported to the local police and tried for overran hour to report to the IRS. Gave up - tired of playing telephone bingo!

How can this guy continue to operate fro the same tel number?????

My sister put 2000. on a rush card for that creep. He got greedy and called back saying she must pay more. She didn't have it and called me. I didn't recognize it as a scam as she had had IRS trouble but when we called my husband he was adamant don't give this guy anything. Let them come and arrest you!! In the meantime I came to this site and put the number in and found the info from others. I too am thankful for this site. If the IRS knows about this scam it sure would be nice if they manned the fraud line.My sister called the local police as Damon had told her he would have her arrested. He even had a phoney officer call her and the caller ID said it was from the police department. Boy are these guys good with techology or what. Too bad they don't use their intelligence for good instead of evil deeds.

Got a VM a few days ago. Thick 100% Indian accent. VM left for a wrong name, for someone who owned my phone number years ago. They must be using obsolete White Pages or something.

People, don't get yourself trapped so easily! Phone call means NOTHING nowadays. These scumbags can be anywhere in the world, now with Skype or Google Voice one can get an US number so easy.

Get yourself a caller ID blocker box (about $100 on eBay), set up whitelist call screening and let all that be history.

Good luck.

How great I got a call from a Damon Marshall at work this morning, claiming to be with the IRS special investigation, and fell for it.

Since I do owe the IRS then his constant badgering and threats of arrest, seizure of property and freezing assets over rode my common sense of what is the correct procedure for the IRS and the fact I am in a Bankruptcy case.

Stinking POS got me for $1,000, been to the Police dept. to report it, reported it to my lawyer handling my bankruptcy, don't expect I will see my money ever again. Currently on hold with the IRS to report this to them

I am so furious with myself.

Pay attention and learn from me if nothing else.
