cease and desist letters do not apply to first party collections.only collection agencies. The bank will keep calling because they are within their legal right to. Also FDCPA laws do not apply as well to first party collections. Also an agency and the original creditor can call about the same bill at the same time. Banks don't walk away from money they are owed.

Yeah this number showed up today...no message.  Called the number back and it said it was "Consumer Counseling" and gave me options to pay, etc.  Yeah right...like I am gonna make a payment to a company that doesn't tell me their name.

This number called me today and an automated message kept saying, "please hold for this important call."  It repeated it several times and then hung up. I guess it wasn't that important afterall.

This is not true in all states.  Here in PA, state law in essence mirrors FDCPA laws concerning 1st party AND collectors.  You should check your state laws in order to be sure.

I got a call from this 401-468-5596 today with a message from Citizen's Bank asking me to return the call to 1-888-441-2894.  I didn't get the whole number so I called Citizen's Bank directly.  It is their collections department.

i called back this number after they called me.  I was asked for a ssn# and refused to give it, i was then asked for m checking account number and last 4 of ssn# to pull up my account.  i gave it, and asked what "DDA" stood for?  the woman told me it was "demand deposit account" or in lay terms "checking account." turns out my account was actually overdrawn with charter one bank and the lady was able to put me on a payment plan to repay my balance and put a freeze on my account to stop the fees.  i am actually really glad i called back.  i asked about "citizens bank" and was told that it is also part of "RBS" which is a bigger bank that owns both companies.

Maybe Citizens Bank and their bill collectors should be behind bars. They steal money from their clients by moving the transactions around to steal hundreds of dollars. If you happen to have an accounting degree under your belt, and call them on it,  they blame the computer and if you dare close your account, then they will move the transactions from your last week their around so much that you will end up owing them hundreds of dollars. I guess a company that uses illegal practices in their bank has no problem letting their bill collectors that are using illegal practices

They have been calling me on and off for over a month asking for some guy named Shane McFarlen or something. Whenever I call back it is automated and they tell me that they are closed, even during the hours that they gave me in one of the messages. In one message, they gave me two numbers to call, the one that seems to lead to the foreign woman asking for SS numbers and another one that began 1-800-555. As the 555 numbers have been reserved, this is a scam of sorts, and I'm obviously not the only one with whom they're asking for another name. Any info on how to get them to leave me alone would be greatly appreciated.

For all of you out there, this is just a call from Citizen's Bank regarding a past due account that you may have, or somebody has an account and used to have your phone number (no matter how many years you've had your current number). They are on an automatic dialing system and it may take a few days to get the number off so you will continue to receive calls. Just politely state it is the wrong number. There is not reason to get aggitated about it. If you already know it is them and you told them it is the wrong number, just don't answer anymore and your number will eventually be removed. If they are calling looking for you, it is because you have a past due account and you should answer the phone and talk to them to figure out the problem if you don't already know what it is.

I picked up my phone and I have 5 missed calls from this number.  I called the number and the tape recording said you have reached Consumer Counseling.  Very strange.  I have also gotten a 1-800 number for Citizens Bank call on my cell phone, but I've missed those calls too.

Just called Citizens and told them I paid so call off your blood hounds.  She said shed put in a complaint.  I suggested they hire a new agency adn told them the tactics being used.

EVERYONE call Citizens and complain and they will eventually hire a professional collectinon agency.

I paid already and they are still calling and letting it ring 1-2 times and hanging up.

I got several automated voincce mails from an 800 number to call Citizens Bank and didn't call back.  I did get past due on a personal loan but didn;t have money til today and I PAID IT but I am still getting calls from this #,  They won't leave a message. Now they are just calling and hanging up after a couple of rings.

I decided to google the # and found this site.  THey just called and hung up and I PAID IT ALREADY!!!!! I don't answer calls I don't know from out of state that is what voice mail is for.  I figured if they can't leave a message it can't be important.

I am going ot see if my cell company can block the number

Calling early mornings. Vague message. Do not have an account with them. In fact they were asking for me and my husband and we have been divorced for over a year. If they call back I think I'll answer but it sounds like telling them not to call doesn't help.

This is a collection agency for a few different companies, citizens bank being one of them.  I was past due 30 days and receiving multiple calls from this number.  These calls are always annoying because they never identify themselves so we all have to go online to find out which one of our creditors wants their money today.  They also don't care if its annoying that your cell phone rings every 5 minutes - they want their money!  It's not that Im on their side, but they didn't come banging down my door beggin me to buy a new car..  Its like this, don't pay your bills - get annoying phone calls!  Let it go too long and your car disappears! (and you still owe the balance)

I got a call from this # today.  I didn't answer and googled the # bringing me here.  From what the above posts are saying, it's definitely Citizen's Bank.  My car loan is through them and currently a month overdue.  That's why they are calling me I'm sure.  However, I don't transact money over the phone and will not return their calls.  I will pay my balance eventually.

this number does belong to Citizen's bank and it is legit.  trust me.  I practically have it memorized already.  i have a car loan with them and if i am one second late they are calling.  it is all automated unless the system detects that someone is really on the other line and then it will put you through to an operator.  if you do not answer it disconnects (as in if your answering machine picks up).  it will also hang up on you if you are too quiet after it says hold one moment.  i have noticed that if my kids are making noise in the background i will actually end up with a live person...it i am quiet while they are patching me through it ends up disconnected. if you don't have an account with them, don't worry about it.  they either mis-dialed or they just have the wrong number on file.

Got an urgent call from this number asking for account number or SS number of my Citizens Bank account. They knew I had an account there and caller ID listed the number as from Citizens Bank. so I gave them the SS and realized right away it was fraud. If you call back this number, it will answer as a collection agency. I have called thr bank, the state police, attorney general, FTC, and the FBI. Got another phishing call today! When are these people going to get cell time????

I received a call from this number and the lady claimed she was from Citizen Bank. She then told me that she needed to get ahold of John (and then my last name). When I stated I did not know this John guy she was all confused and asked if I lived at some address. When I responded no - she asked again - 'You have no idea who this John is?' I said no once again and then she just said oh okay hmmm.. thanks.. Then she hung up.
