I'm constantly getting calls from this number every few weeks,  but they never leave a message. I assume it's for donations.  If they needed to talk to me,  they would've left a message.

Like others, am curious as to how Brown has my direct work number and why they would call me at work.  Switchboard at Brown says the call could be from anyone/anywhere on campus.

For me, it was a call from the Brown Univ. Police Dept. that they had found my lost wallet.  Not annoying, actually very friendly and helpful!

Called my phone, no message left.

My son is a student at Brown. But he is not in school now because of summer break. It is weird that I saw this number in my cell phone caller ID. But if an employee at Brown does not know why someone called, I guess it may not be donation solicitation.

Received call on my direct office line. Caller left no message. I work for another local university, so I, too, find it odd that an employee (or student) of Brown would call (or even know) my direct line and not leave a message.

This is the Brown University switchboard number.  Brown is huge, so you could be getting a call from a variety of different places within the university -- a student, an office, a research study (if you called to screen for a study).

Anyone who's at Brown should know, though, that the switchboard number is the one that comes up on caller ID, and if they want you to call back, they've got to leave you a message with their extension, so it's weird if they don't leave a message.

happened to me too!!!!! already called me probably about 20 times in the past month

From my experience, you cannot tell exactly Who from Brown is calling when the last four digits are 1001 because 1001 generally appears (for some unknown reason) when people at Brown call from a range of Brown extensions.  Thus, a phone call from 1001 could be from a large number of Brown locations.

Are you affiliated with Brown University in any way?  That number tends to be students calling for donations.
