Did you actually read the comments in this thread? Didn't you notice that people who don't owe money are being called? Didn't you notice that even among those who do owe money none of them is claiming they shouldn't have to pay back the money, only that they *can't* at this time?

The real issue at hand here is that most of you people (any race) borrowed money from someone under trustworthy circumstances.  The lender trusted that you would pay them back, and now since you don't have a jop, you think by default you should not pay?  This is where you are wrong.  Do you understand that you are trying make stealing ok?  Do you plan on never, ever getting another job?  Why by means of simply not getting a job, should you not pay?

I do not work for the CC companies, nor will I ever...  I also receive calls due to being unable to pay CC company due to a job loss.  I did not work for almost 2 months, and I received several calls from Chase.  Here's the catch, I actually spoke to them in a calm and adult manner.  You should try doing this, it's not hard to be civil.  I told them my exact situation, and they stopped calling everyday.  I now only receive calls about 2 times a week.  Do I speak to them every time, no.  But I did speak to them, and it was worth it.  The frequency has been picking back up now, but when this happens, I speak to them, and they stop for about 3 weeks.

I found another job (finally), and I have started to pay the CC companies back.  If you borrowed money from your friend, do you think your friend would like to be paid back?  I would, you would too.  It's not okay to steal, and any religion will agree.

I've been receiving 100s of call from various numbers (224, 407, 402, 502).  I don't answer calls from area codes I don't recognize.
They are calling for someone who doesn't nor has ever had this number.  They're calling for someone I know, but I can't understand how Chase got my number associated with this person.  My phone is VoIP and in Mexico, so I can't figure it out.
When I was in retail credit in the 70's, I had a collector who did skip trace w/ the cris-cross directory.  Those probably went by the wayside long ago.  You could find the phone #s of all the deadbeat's neighbors and call them.
They still have their ways.  The calls are made from various call centers that are contractors for Chase.  I had some of them as clients in my telecom days.
Hopefully they'll give up one day.

Here's the best way to tell them to stop calling:

"All calls to any phone number are inconvenient." That's the language in the federal law concerning dunning calls.

You can also, if you think that they are about to sue you, state that "I elect arbitration".

MANY of the credit card companies are backing off if you state that in writing, because arbitration is more expensive for them than court, and you might be able to get a very low percentage payment, or a total dropping of the charges entirely.

Chase will not give up and harrass me constantly.  After 13 years of on time payments, they suddenly reduce my credit limit and then I lose my job. Thanks for really being there when I needed you the most Chase.  If I had the money I would pay it.  Stop calling me!

Yep. And I just block the damn number. Eventually, they'll give up. Even if they keep changing numbers, it doesn't matter. I will never answer. Such a waste of time for them. Get a real job!

Call from this number today. I had programmed all of Chase numbers that had been used for the last nine months since I stopped being able to keep up with cards. This is really a horrible thing to have good credit ruined because I no longer have enough work to meet my bills. This is a lousy economy and a lousy thing for a lot of people - I know because I go to so many job groups and networking groups. So the banks got their money for ruining the economy already. When do the people get a break? Certainly not from Chase.

I started getting calls from various different numbers (I believe I've blocked 5 now) claiming to be Chase (a card I don't have).  They are asking for someone who is not me.  I've had my number 5 years, so obviously someone mis-keyed a number somewhere and now I'm dealing with it.

Yah, it's probably just a Chase Collections call.  Last time I talked to them, I got an address from the rep of a place I have to write an actual letter to in order to get collection calls to stop.  They won't stop supposedly until they get a real "stop calling letter".  It's not my fault I can't pay... I've always stayed on top of it while I had a job and income... but what am I supposed to do in an economy where I simply can't find a job?  Sorry Chase... too bad...

Got a call from 402-220-4822 ("NEBRASKA") at 8:02 today (Monday).  For weeks, I have been getting calls at frequent intervals (12 to 15 calls a day) from 847-488-3313 ("ILLINOIS") -- also described as a Chase collection agency by others, but now that the NEBRASKA calls have started (again), the ILLINOIS calls have stopped.  In any case, 1) I don't have a Chase card and I don't do business with Chase; 2) I do not have outstanding debts; and 3) When I pick up the phone, the line is dead.  So I've stopped picking up the phone, or I pick up and quickly hang the phone back up.  These people MUST be violating many laws.

What I do now is save the number to my contacts (after checking sites like this to see who is calling - just google the number), and assign the "no ring" ringtone.  That way real people can still reach me with a normal ringtone.

So am I.

I have explained everything to them numerous times, gave them the phone number and contact name to call and they just ignore me.

So I created a work-around for my cell as I do not have a land-line.

I created a ten second silent MP3 and I associated it to them. That way I never hear the call and I do not have to put my entire phone on silent for the other important calls.
It has worked like a charm - at least for the cell phone.
I call it the 'does not exist' list.
