If they are calling and leaving messages for someone other than you it just means that someone who does have a loan with them used your number as a contact number. You can simply ask them to remove your number. To find out who your student loans are through go to nslds.ed.gov.

Message identifies itself as Nelmet Student Loan Services with a message for.... (insert name).... And it's not my name!  They call and leave messages 3-4 times a day and have been for over a month.  I'm not the person they are looking for and my number is on the do not call list.  How do I make them stop?

You're screwed.  Someone (creditor? bank?) reported your name and this number for you to on of the credit bureaux, and now it's on your credit file, accessible to anyone you do business with.  You can contact the 3 credit reporting agencies and dispute that it belongs to you.  Good luck with that!

They called an elderly couple and left a message saying it was NELNET and urgent to call 888 486-4722.  These people have never had a student loan or never co-signed a student loan.  Why the hell are they calling?

This number (1 402-458-2269) call me many times but I have no idea who calls from it. I do not even know how they got my home phone number, because I almost do all my business needing a phone number with my cell phone.
Many times the callers do not leave a message, but when they do, the message tells me to call a certain 800 number.

DAMN nelnet student loans? damn i dint know i was in default yet.. dang.. i need to get this fixed now.. i was looking at numbers on my caller ID that call too much and was looking to see who's who.. well thanks fo rthe info, i posted this for another page.. :"Dont know who this is but they have been calling for many months every single day all hours.. But after getting this new caller today, it pissed me off so much i started digging for ways to block calls. Found out my phone carrier, suddenlink, has free call blocking for up to 12 calls. Heck ya!PLus unlimited call blocking to any unknown or blocked calls. So I am totally stoked and already jsut today, i have noticed a huge difference. 5 companies now on the list with all unknown and blocked number blocker option turned on, its going to be like a new life. lol.. Hope this helps someone out there that might have suddenlink.  I saw somewhere a lot of companies are offering free call blocking, so call your local provider and ask if they do. Best thing i have done in months.. "

Nelnet, and they machine-called me today.  Apparently they bought two of my loans, but the payments I HAD made on the loans didn't come across w/the loans.  They also claimed that the account will be sorted out once 'all of the information comes in'.  So they are showing my loan as unpaid, and w/o all the information they need, they put my account into collections.  That and my monthly amount due is incorrect.

If you are in a similar situation, and they offer to put you in forbearance (to wait for their info to come in), make sure that you specifically say that you do NOT want it go against the loan amount's overall forbearance period (you get 60 months forbearance for the life of the loan).  They can't give you any guarantee other than a promise to post it in your account's notes.  Aggravating.

They leave voicemail on my cell twice a day every day. I have never been to college, let alone had a loan, so I have no idea where they picked up my number from. Any idea how to get them to stop?

It's NelNet, and I am a month overdue on my colleger loan with them.  In my case, it's a legit call, although I don't recall ever giving them my cell number.

I have been receiving calls from this number (and others the same company uses) continuously.I have written at least a dozen letters to the company asking them to correspond with me via US mail. We are not allowed to have our cell phones at work so i can't answerl Obviously they know how to dial phones but don't know how to read letters or respond. I have an older model computer at home and am not that computer savvy which is another reason I ask for written correspondence. I want to take care of the loan and have asked for assistance in setting up a payment plan. Until they respond it is going to be a continual aggravation.
