Rec'd a call from them yesterday afternoon AT WORK, not on my personal contact number ( cell phone). I encountered a situation similar to this a couple months ago and did not return the calls and eventually they stopped.

I will be honest and say I was a little caught off guard and frightened when I rec'd the call. I listened to her options and blah blah. I asked her to send me proof of my debt. She said she would send me an email, I also asked her to send me a hard copy in the mail, which she said would be sent out today. An email does NOT count as proof of debt, something must physically be rec'd in the mail...that is the LAW. She advised me that the email may go directly to my spam box and she also provided the website to confirm they were a "legit company". I call b***s***.

I opened the email which was as plain as could be and downloaded the attachment. When I opened the attachment it opened into microsoft word and I WAS ABLE TO EDIT THE DOCUMENT. Delete, add, whatever. What kind of legal document is that? Also, on the website there is a section regarding applying to work there and right there on the website it discusses PAY. Really? come on.

I work at a law firm and after talking with a co worker she confirmed for me that is prohibited to pursue criminal charges in illinois. BUT once again it is the law that they send me a hard copy in the mail of the debt I owe before they demand ANY payments. Another thing I noticed was the the woman said this loan was to be paid through my Bank One account. Bank One is now chase and hasn't been bank one in years, ALSO when I did indeed receive a loan from the company name she provided I was using a completely different bank.

I can see how easily they could scam innocent people out of money just by using these crazy scare tactics. They just need to sit down and look and the details AND laws before making anymoves.

When any of you posters get another call, tell them that you've contacted the FBI.
They're commiting fraud across state lines.
Just laugh at them and hang up.

These guys are like all other non-legit collection agencies. They reel you in to calling them back by using scare tactics. They use words like fraud and felony and case number to get you to call them so they can get more information out of you on who they are calling about so they can then try to contact them personally. There are a couple things they are already doing illegally. A real legit debt collector cannot tell you, by any means, what they are calling for unless you are the person they are calling for--not even your spouse unless your spouse was on the account as well. They, for one thing, are saying that "a possible fraud case is pending" or something along those lines. Notice that they use their words carefully because, if they don't, they are committing fraud. I'm a law student and have done some research on this. It's ridiculous what laws they are breaking and that we're letting them do it because we just don't know. Look up the state and federal laws and you'll be surprised too. Their words are another thing that are laughable and completely gives them away as just another bottom feeder collection agency. The message I got was like this: (and I don't even know the person they were looking for) "He needs to call me closely and fast..."
Really? Come on are you serious??!!! Message to all collection agencies, "If you want to sound legit train your phone agents to at least use the proper lingo." Don't waste your time calling them back and if by some chance you pick up the phone when they call tell them to throw your number away.

They left a message on our answering machine about a case number regarding someone related to us. If they were ligitimate, they'd send something in the mail to the person they are trying to contact.
