| WARNING TO ALL 2011-06-06 20:47:41 Unknown |
404-697-3127: I've been getting this call a couple times a week for 3 weeks now on my unlisted, unpublished phone number w/ caller id. It's a guy saying he is from American Express with an urgent message & to call another number with your account info ready. WARNING TO ALL! THIS IS A PHISHING SCAM TRYING TO SCARE YOU TO CALL THEM AND GIVE YOUR AMEX CREDIT CARD NUMBER. Do not call back this number or any number this person tells you to call. Other numbers he uses even has American Express on the caller id. I checked w/ AMEX and it is not them. They never call customers saying to call them back w/ your credit card number ready. If there is any suspicious activity on your card & they catch it they will automatically put a hold on your card & wait for you to contact them. It is relatively easy now to disguise your id and say whatever you want it to say on the party your calling's caller id. Once again , this is NOT american express. It is a scam artist trying to hook you into giving them your AMEX account info. It looks like this cingular cell phone number is based in Atlanta, Georgia USA. (REPORT THIS PERSON TO THE PROPER AUTHORITIES. DO NOT GIVE ANY PERSONAL INFO TO THIS SCAMMER.)

Received call from (404) 697-3127 while I was driving. They identified themselves as Scott from American Express. I asked if I could call them back since I was driving. He then got louder stating that, "No, you cannot call us back. You owe us $4000.00." I told him I didn't even have an American Express card and that he had the wrong person. I hung up on him.
The next day, I received a call from this number and her name was Gina. She stated she was from CARD SERVICES and that she was calling because of a 4-month consecutive missed payments. I know this is false because I automatic bill pay on my Visa. I go along with her game and beg her forgiveness but I had recently loss my job and started a new job at a prominent company. I told her that I would be mailing my payment in. She insisted that I could pay the bill over the phone with her. I insisted I'd mail in the payment. She says, "I can take your card information now and process the payment so I won't go into collections." I started rattling off a closed Discover card account number that I had closed in 1992. I gave her the zipcode to my aunt in California. She took the numbers down and there was silence. I asked if there was a confirmation number for this transaction. First she asks, "huh?" She forgets to put herself on mute and I hear her asking someone about "this zip code isn't on this site." I asked for a confirmation number again. She says, "Hold on a minute." Then she hangs up on me. I called back and asked for Gina. The same woman answered and said she was Amanda. Oh really?
So Paul, remember that anyone can check your credit for $8. I can go to a website, pay them $3.95 and I can have your whole life history, telephone numbers and credit reports from all three bureaus. So whoever you gave your information to could have done the same thing and then played you. Keep checking your credit reports. Some states offer two free credit reports a year. I get mine every January and every July.

The day after we posted a kid's toy for sale on Craigslist, we started receiving calls from (404) 697-3127 but never answered since we didn't recognize the # on our Caller ID and no one on the other end left a msg. (Note: Craigslist has become the new scam, spam, den o' thieves spot, so only give your phone # to respondents ... never, ever give your last name and home ADDRESS to Craigslist ad respondents; if possible, meet the buyer at a shopping center or other public location.)

It is American Express and once I gave them my account number and alternate identification, they verified exactly the amount that was in my account. I just looked it up online and they we're accurate.
You guys all sound like a bunch of paranoid freaks. There are so many safe measures you can take to verify this is an legitimate business number....... before going on this Website and spreading false information.
It's one thing to be circumspect with your private financial information, and still be able to determine who is an impostor.

Just got the same calls myself back to back from a so-called 800 Amex Number and the 404-697-3127 number. I am up to date on my Amex bills so no one from there should be calling me!!
Ignore these calls and call American Express on their official number if you want to confirm that they are trying to reach you.
Be ware!

I received a call to my work landline here at the Sprint Headquarters in Overland Park, KS and the caller ID was showing the 404-697-3127 number. They left a message for another Sprint employee on my phone, claiming it was an urgent American Express issue and to call them back at 800-648-0738, which seems to be a scam as well. Beware!

This # has been calling me every day. I finally answered it. A guy came on the line. I told him that if he ever called me again I'd personally kick his a**. He said he'd take my number off the list and that it would take 24/48 hours to purge through the system. I told him if he called back within 24 or 48 hours, I'd track him down and kick his a**. I called him a scam. He didn't deny it. He finally hung up.
It made my day for sure!

they are going after me too. The scary part is...that AMEX calls me just as much because of a missed payment. How did this person get my number and know that AMEX calls me too.

I just got a call from them twice in a row. When I answered there was no one on the other end. Once I hung up they called right back. The same thing happened. I called this number back but oddly it never rang and the call was connected but still no one on the other line. Thanks for everyone who posted info on this. It was very helpful.

Got a call claiming it was American Express with a very important business matter. They wanted me to call back with my account number ready. Positive this is a scam since I don't even have an American Express card.
Definitely do not call back!
