You might want to check this link out:  http://hamptonroads.com/2013/09/portfolio-rec ... -autodial-proof

They are known to scam people for debts that they don't have.  47% of their cases they don't have proof of or are past statue of limitations. Which is why they are going through a lawsuit.

I would keep those letters that they send you. They may take you to court and that could show a form as harassment.

Portfolio Recovery is in a lawsuit. Out of all the accounts they have, 47% of them either have no proof of there being a debt or have passed statue of limitations time.

They're not getting my real name off of here. Not a chance. What I AM tired of is the several different numbers calling all the time. They've managed to make it on my blocked callers list. My cell phone has this really fantastic feature, so I don't have to put up with this crap. They've even called on Sundays! I'm done with going through my recent incoming calls list.

Done with PRA and their vultures. Past done. They likely got my info off of a recently opened account, as I'm trying to improve my credit score so I don't have to pay massive deposits on utilities in the future. If they could legitimately collect from me, they would have already had my contact information BEFORE this. So what's next for them? Sending me vaguely threatening letters? I have a shredder for that. It will make excellent mulch.

The worst part is that I'm laid off for the summer. Good luck squeezing blood from a stone, boys. The past few years have sucked economically, and I hope y'all shut down because of it. More so, you're trying to collect on a debt that has been discharged, and I've had to count it as income on my taxes. So you really can kiss my a***.

How do you figure that you owe them money? Have you ever done any business with Portfoolio? Have you ever received any goods or services from these bottom-feeding vermin? OTOH, has Portfoolio Recovery documented and verified a debt they claim they bought from some bank that had written it off 15 years ago (and got generous tax breaks for the bad debt.)?  Can they prove this is your debt?  I forced these vermin to answer my inquiry to them by complaining to the state attorney general's office -- consumer protection -- their lawyer wrote back in black and white the admission that the debt could not be verified. So, has the so-called debt they say you owe them been verified?  He also said they bought the line in a printout (from some bank I never heard of) in 2001, though they never started their harassment campaign until 2009. Statute of limitations, anybody? (That would only apply if they could verify the debt, which they can't, so back to square one...)Tell them to take a very long walk off a very short pier. You owe them nothing.

They say there from Portfoliorecov and say I owe 200 dollars from back in 2003. Now why isn't the FCC taking care of the scammers and doing something about it? I am not a very healthy person and this just makes me mad that people are aloud to do this in THE USA. Come on FCC we pay you to do your job now get rid of these scammers and etc.

I do believe that I do owe them money but at this time I can't afford to pay them so its easier to ignore them. One day one of their callers will get a lucky day and I will answer ready to pay and they will get an easy commission. Until then I set them to a silent ring tone and make their calls not vibrate.  It works well and allows me to keep on task at work. Once of these days I will pay them and when that is finally done with they can then kiss my a**.

They will never stop calling you and may be ruining your credit with no right to do do. You should contact a consumer debt lawyer for a free consultation. Portfolio Recovery routinely violates Federal consumer debt laws and if there is a case you could sue them (at no cost to you) and win thousands in Federal court. Calling frequently on your cell phone without your permission could be considered a violation. Keep track of the time and dates they call and take the information with you to the lawyer. Even if someone still owes the money they don't have the right to break the laws.

They called me at 11.02 AM. Just saw caller ID. In 2004 they had tried to harass me by mail for some alleged library bill incurred in 1987. A  very small amount which had so-called "multiplied with interest" to $800. I was in college in 1987, they got that part right but I didn't recall not paying library dues. I had my lawyer send them a letter mentioning statute of limitation ( 5 yrs in NY) and threatened to file a complaint against their license for violating Fair Credit act, my consumer rights or something like that. They stopped at that time. I am surpised they are still in business.
